Resident Evil: Retribution Trailer is A Big Sony Advertisement

It’s an exciting time for Resident Evil fans, with two major video games coming out, another rumored to be announced this week, and of course, the franchise’s fifth film, Resident Evil: Retribution debuting in September.

2010′s Resident Evil: Afterlife introduced 3D into the franchise and gave the series its largest box office haul yet, kick-starting a fifth installment into production for Paul W.S. Anderson to helm once again with his wife Milla Jovovich returning to play Alice on her quest to eradicate the Umbrella Corporation. The next movie is also coming in 3D and its first teaser trailer is now out.

Official ‘Resident Evil 5′ Plot Synopsis Released

Considering all the plot-related info concerning Re5ident Evil: Retribution (as the fifth RE flick is now officially titled) that’s been leaked by franchise starlet Milla Jovovich and her husband/director Paul W.S. Anderson, it seems odd that an actual official synopsis for the newest installment in the post-zombapocalyptic video game-based franchise hasn’t been unveiled – before now.

Screen Gems has gone ahead and released the official Retribution synopsis; in related news, a teaser trailer for the movie should be arriving very soon (in all likelihood, attached to prints of the upcoming Underworld Awakening).

Resident Evil: Retribution is redefining the term “interactive filmmaking” right now. It seems that the cast and crew of the fifth installment in the popular video-game-turned-movie franchise are embracing this brave new world in which movie productions are an open book to the public (See: the productions of The Dark Knight Rises and The Avengers). Instead of letting the paparazzi and amateur snoops get the glory for snapping a behind-the-scenes look at their film, the Resident Evil team are bringing the fans directly into their filmmaking experience.

‘Resident Evil 5′ Set Pics and Videos: Catsuits, Villains, & Giant Guns

Principal photography on writer/director Paul W.S. Anderson’s Resident Evil: Retribution is currently underway in Toronto, Canada. Franchise leading lady (and Anderson’s significant other) Milla Jovovich has been keeping fans up-to-date on the process by releasing short videos and clips from the film’s set.

Today we have three new videos (courtesy of Miss Jovovich) that provide a behind-the-scenes look at some of the cast and crew of the fifth Resident Evil flick – along with a handful of photos that feature Jovovich looking (what else) stylish and sexy as Alice.

‘Resident Evil 5′ Finds Its Ada Wong

Paul W.S. Anderson – love him or loathe him – has been true to his word, as far as taking fan input to heart while crafting Resident Evil: Retribution. The writer/director aims to not only up the zombie-slaying action ante, he’s also incorporating fan-favorite characters like Leon Kennedy (Johann Urb) and yet-to-be-cast weapons guru Barry Burton into the plot.

New additions to the Resident Evil live-action film universe also include the lovely Ada Wong – and now, an actress has been officially brought on to play that part.

‘Resident Evil 5′ Update From Paul W.S. Anderson

There no denying that writer/director Paul W.S. Anderson and his wife/go-to leading lady, Milla Jovovich have something good going with the Resident Evil franchise. Last year, the fourth installment (Resident Evil: Afterlife) proved to be the most lucrative chapter in the video game movie series yet – and next year’s Resident Evil: Retribution is aiming to soar even higher at the box office.

Jovovich has so far been actively involved in keeping fans updated on the status of Retribution, which starts shooting on location in Toronto within the week. It’s (apparently) Anderson’s turn to do likewise.

‘Resident Evil 5′ Casting Roundup Features New & Familiar Faces [Updated]

The cast for Paul W. S. Anderson’s fifth entry in the Resident Evil movie series – titled Resident Evil: Retribution – is quickly coming together. Many an actor and actress will be reprising their role from previous installments, including (obviously) Milla Jovovich as Alice, Sienna Guillory as Jill Valentine, and Michelle Rodriguez as Rain Ocampo, among others.

Anderson will be adding some fresh (acting) blood to the fifth RE flick, which will include a handful of fan-favorite characters who’ve not yet shown up in live-action form – like ex-Raccoon City cop Leon Scott Kennedy and S.T.A.R.S. weapons specialist Barry Burton.

Michelle Rodriguez Returns For Resident Evil 5

Resident Evil is returning and stronger than ever. After the fourth installment in the franchise, Resident Evil: Afterlife, successfully implemented a shot-in-3D gore-fest to audiences around the world, it managed to easily become the most successful film in the series and fans were pleased to see elements and characters from the Resident Evil 5 video game used in the film.

The cast and crew are returning for another sequel, titled Resident Evil: Retribution, which is bringing even more of what fans want in terms of characters from the games and with them, a few surprises. Nick Nolte Joins ‘Gangster Squad’; Sienna Guillory In ‘Resident Evil 5′? [Updated]

Gangster Squad continues to add more respectable actors and actresses to its cast, with Nick Nolte being the latest addition to director Ruben Fleischer’s period crime-thriller.

Meanwhile, Sienna Guillory is meeting with the production team behind Resident Evil: Retribution (including writer/director Paul Anderson) to find out whether or not she’ll be appearing in the film.

The fifth Resident Evil flick is slated to arrive in theaters by September 2012, almost two years exactly after the last installment (Resident Evil: Afterlife). Gangster Squad doesn’t have an official release date just yet, but it could be aiming for a late 2012 arrival – just in time for the awards season.

‘Resident Evil 5′: Paul W.S. Anderson Directing, New Characters, & More

When Resident Evil movie franchise mastermind Paul W.S. Anderson signed on to direct Pompeii earlier this year, there was reason to wonder if he would pass on helming the upcoming Resident Evil: Retribution (a.k.a. Resident Evil 5).

Anderson has now been confirmed as both writer and director of the film, which will reportedly see Milla Jovovich’s Alice joined by a few familiar faces from the original Resident Evil video game and computer-animated movie universe – who have not shown up in live-action form before.

BD Horror News has confirmed that Anderson is directing his own screenplay for Retribution, like he did with the first and fourth Resident Evil movies (he scripted and produced the second and third films). Just like last year’s Resident Evil: Afterlife, the new installment will be shot in 3D.

After a trilogy of films, Resident Evil went the way of 3D and blew the box office apart. Resident Evil: Afterlife took some notes from the latest video game in the franchise, added 3D, and brought in almost $300 million worldwide during its theatrical run, literally doubling the revenue of its predecessor (read: insta-green-light for Resident Evil 5).

Paul W.S. Anderson To Helm ‘Pompeii’; Passing On ‘Resident Evil 5′?

Paul W.S. Anderson seemingly enjoyed his time working in the historical adventure genre with his upcoming adaptation of The Three Musketeers – enough so that the Resident Evil franchise writer/director has signed on to helm another period flick titled Pompeii, which (naturally) deals with the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius and subsequent destruction of the titular Roman city.

Anderson reportedly plans to begin shooting Pompeii in spring of 2012; however, with Resident Evil 5 currently slated to hit theaters in September 2012, that could mean he won’t be directing the latter film (more on that later).

Recently, we reported that Resident Evil: Afterlife had performed well enough for Screen Gems to set a release date for the franchise’s next installment, temporarily titled Resident Evil 5.

The first official images for Resident Evil: Afterlife have premiered online and if you’re a fan of the franchise, you’ll be excited to see what they depict.

We know the film is the first in the franchise jumping into the fad of 3D and that it’s introducing some major characters from the Resident Evil video game franchise, not yet seen in the movies. The fourth installment of the Resident Evil film franchise is on its way with production having already begun in Toronto. Titled, Resident Evil: Afterlife and entering into the 3D genre, the movie brings back Milla Jovovich’s Alice character back to put an end to more zombies and the like.

Also returning to the franchise are two of the characters from Resident Evil: Extinction: Ali Larter’s Claire Redfield and Spencer Locke’s K-Mart. That’s not all though! If you’re a Prison Break fan, you’ll be happy to know that Wentworth Miller has signed on to play Chris Redfield, the brother of Ali Larter’s character and star of the recently successful Resident Evil 5 video game.

Even though Sony Screen Gems is moving ahead with a fourth Resident Evil movie, entitled Resident Evil: Afterlife (which is to be 3D, with the Avatar team handling the f/x), it appears that they’re already preparing for a FIFTH movie. But instead of continuing on the story already established, Blood-Disgusting has exclusively confirmed that the studio is planning some sort of “quasi-reboot,” just seven years after the franchise began.
