Warning: The following review contains some SPOILERS about the first [REC] and some mild ones about [REC] 2.

Those of you lucky enough to have seen the Spanish language horror film [REC] will hopefully agree that it was one of the scariest and most effective films of its type in years (for me it goes on a list of “all time best”). It took a well-trodden sub-genre of horror – the zombie film – and injected fresh life into it.

And I can’t remember any other time I was as freaked out in a theater as I was watching that film.

Two More [REC] Sequels On The Way

Here’s a piece of news that will delight fans of the terrifically well-made and frantically frightening [REC]; there’s not one but TWO more sequels on the way. [REC] 2 has already been made and released in its native Spain, but has yet to hit theaters in U.S. But evidently, the franchise has a lot more fuel left in the tank.

Variety reports the news that Filmax Entertainment has officially greenlit third and fourth [REC] movies. The first two were co-directed by Paco Plaza and Juame Balaguero, but the next two will be solo films for each director.

[REC] Genesis, the third movie, will be directed by Plaza who has co-written the script with Luis Berdejo (who co-wrote the first [REC]). It will focus on the origin of the virus that plagued the first ...

[REC] 2 Red-Band Trailer and Images

It was recently announced that [REC] 2 will make a theatrical run this July. Now we’ve got a new red-band trailer making the rounds in the U.K. and it’s worth a look. The sequel to [REC] already has support based on the in-trailer reviews. Loyal followers like myself are anxiously awaiting the release this summer. The original is still one of my favorite horror films of all time, but I never got to see it in theaters.

Some trailers came out in September of last year, but with the upcoming release, the studios are re-cutting and airing some 90-second scare fests. Whether horror is your favorite genre or not, it’s hard to imagine the trailer not getting under people’s skin.

[REC] 2 In Theaters This July?

I’m going to go out on a limb and call [REC] one of the scariest movies ever made. I know my colleagues here agree, it’s up there. The sequel, [REC] 2 was released in Spain last October. Now, thanks to the genuine cult fan base, we may just get a full theatrical run.

Bloody Disgusting reported that Magnolia Pictures is planning to send the horrifying footage of [REC] 2 to theaters this July, followed by a DVD release in October.

‘[Rec]‘ Writers & Directors Returning For Third Movie

We’ve not even seen [REC] 2 – the sequel to the terrific Spanish-language zombie film, [REC] – rear its bloody head in worldwide theaters yet, however a third one is already being planned. The writers and directors of the first two were Juame Balaguero and Paco Plaza, and even though [REC] 3 has definitely been in the cards for both of them, they’ve often been rumored to be returning as producers instead of lending their writing and directing talents to a third installment.

However, Dread Central recently got a chance to speak to Balaguero at a screening of [REC] 2, and the writer/director revealed that the rumors of he and Plaza not returning as just producers are totally unfounded, and when the time comes for [REC] 3 they both very much plan on returning to head chair(s).

Final Trailer For ‘[REC] 2′ (English Subtitles)

The guys over at Bloody-Disgusting have the exclusive on the final trailer for the upcoming “in-camera” Spanish-language horror sequel, [REC] 2. Those of you who don’t speak Español will be glad to hear it has English subtitles, although I doubt what the terrorized are saying is of as much as interest as what’s happening on-screen.

Bloody-Disgusting also has the official synopsis for [REC] 2, which is as follows (Moderate SPOILER warning for those who haven’t seen the first [REC]):

Amazing Teaser Trailer For [REC] 2

The first full teaser trailer for [REC] 2 has appeared online. A sequel to the Spanish-language horror film from a couple of years ago, [REC] 2 appears to pick up right where the first one left off. Original writers/directors Jaume Balaguero and Paco Plaza return for the sequel, with Manu Diez being added to the writing roster to complete the trio.

Technically this isn’t the first teaser we’ve seen for [REC] 2, but since that other one was nothing more than the logo with some audio for about 10 seconds, we can count this minute-long teaser as the first official look at the film. The trailer is pretty intense so needless to say The following video contains strong, bloody horror and violence – NSFW:
