Tropic Thunder’s Les Grossman ‘Advises’ Twilight Stars

Last week, MTV released two new promos for this year’s MTV Movie Awards featuring Tom Cruise’s popular character, Les Grossman, from the 2008 Ben Stiller blockbuster Tropic Thunder. In the promos, Grossman, whose profanity-laced outbursts were one of the best parts of Tropic Thunder, offers hilariously questionable advice (and abuse) to the stars of the Twilight franchise, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner.

It’s nice to see Tom Cruise back in character for these MTV promos. When you talk about Tropic Thunder, the conversation almost always centers around his performance and Robert Downey Jr.’s, and rightfully so. That film single-handedly reminded the world just how awesome Tom Cruise can be when he’s not busy jumping on Oprah’s couch or criticizing psychotherapy on national news programs.

Theaters To Show Full ‘Twilight’ Saga

Movie theater ticket prices may be on the rise, but Twilight fans will get the ultimate bang for their buck. AMC Theaters will present Twilight and The Twilight Saga: New Moon prior to the midnight showing of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.

The move should keep so-called “Twi-hards” occupied instead of camping outside of movie theaters the entire day before. AMC must have been successful in their previous attempt when 150 theaters screened Iron Man before the midnight Iron Man 2 showing.

Either way, this is a great move to bring people to the movie theaters (especially if you’re AMC). Not that Twilight fans would have been anywhere else – but theaters are fighting to maintain their legacy ...

The one problem for Summit Entertainment in regards to the life of the Twilight franchise is the lack of source material to rush more films out of. As we all know, it takes them a very short amount of time to make a Twilight movie and while the franchise is hot, they want to take advantage and get as much out there as possible.

‘Eclipse’ Sneak Peek

Were you excited by the Eclipse teaser trailer? If you were, then we have another treat for you today: a sneak peek at Eclipse, which will be included on next week’s DVD release of New Moon.

Before we get into the sneak peek, here’s a reminder of what the third film in the Twilight Saga is all about:

In Eclipse, interspecies lovers Edward (Robert Pattinson) and Bella (Kristen Stewart) are reunited in love, although shape-shifter (and rival suitor) Jacob (Taylor Lautner) is still vying for Bella’s affections. While this trio tries to navigate their supernatural love triangle, conflicts with rouge vampires (Bryce Dallas-Howard) and the werewolf clan start to heat up.

Avatar Leads 2010 Saturn Awards Nominations

Today marks the day when the nominations for the 36th Annual Saturn Awards are given out. In case you’re not familiar with them, they are given out by The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films (they also include TV shows and stage productions) so as a reader of Screen Rant I believe they’re right up your alley .

The awards will be given out on June 24th, so we have over four months to speculate and choose the nominees we’d give the award to. The categories range from the usual Best Film (separated into Fantasy, Horror, Science Fiction etc) to Best DVD release and Best DVD Special Edition.

Twilight’s Breaking Dawn Will Be 2 Movies

Money talks in Hollywood and Summit Entertainment will be following in the path of The Hobbit and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by bringing The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn in two parts. That’s right folks, The Twilight Saga will stand at least five films strong.

Breaking Dawn is the largest of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series and it comes as no surprise that Summit is taking this route. We knew from reports late last year after the success of New Moon that they were considering breaking it into two and now it’s confirmed.

We’ve all seen it before: A soundman’s boom mic dips slightly into frame or an entire camera crew shows up in the reflection of a shiny car window. For as long as there are humans making films, there will inevitably be mistakes in those films. I groaned out loud back in August when I found out about the record-breaking summer 2009 box office profits. Now we’re hearing new projections stating that when New Year’s Eve rolls over into New Year’s Day, the movie industry will have crossed a box office milestone, with profits predicted to exceed the $10 billion mark.

I’m sure we’d all be happy that our favorite medium was thriving in the midst of sharp economic downturn – that is, if so many movies hadn’t turned out to be crap this year. Now, the only thing I’m wondering (and you should too) is: “What lesson will Hollywood take from this?”

Summit Entertainment is pretty happy with themselves this weekend with their Twilight sequel New Moon already breaking loads of sales records in just the first day. It surely seems now that rushing the film into production after last November’s success of the first book in Stephanie Meyer’s vampire novel series was a good idea. Continuing the momemtum and hype, the third installment Eclipse has already wrapped filming and is set for a summer release, only half a year away.

Scream Awards 2009: A Report From Front Row Center

This past Saturday, October 17th, I attended my second year of Spike TV’s annual Scream Awards. Not only did I attend, but I had been hand-picked by the casting director to sit front row center for the show! As a fan-focused awards show, it’s much more enjoyable being seated amongst JJ Abrams, Karl Urban, Elijah Wood and Woody Harrelson. My favorite personal surprise of the evening came when the Best Science Fiction Actress nominees were being announced. I cheered (maybe a little too loudly for my girlfriend’s tastes) for Eliza Dushku when her name was announced, only to discover she was sitting right in front of me. She turned around and flashed me her lovely smile. Good thing my girlfriend isn’t the overly-jealous type.

New footage from The Twilight Saga: New Moon debuted this weekend at the 2009 Spike TV Scream Awards, and, of course, made its way online shortly thereafter.

The new footage is a pretty lame quick-glimpse of The Wolf Pack that main character (and shirtless muscle boy) Jacob (Taylor Lautner) belongs to. Jacob of course plays a much more central role in New Moon as the boy-creature who Bella (Kristen Stewart) begins to fall for after her boy-creature-lover, Edward (Robert Pattinson), breaks up with her (sob).
