A new full-length trailer has appeared online for the upcoming Nicolas Cage-starring fantasy adventure-thriller, Season of the Witch. If you only come to Screen Rant for your movie news then you might not have heard of or seen much from this movie but there was a short teaser trailer (a sort of Halloween sneak-peek) that surfaced not long ago and we now have the new full-length trailer to make up for it.

Season of the Witch stars Nicolas Cage as, “a 14th century Crusader who returns with his comrade to a homeland devastated by the Black Plague. A beleaguered church, deeming sorcery the culprit of the plague, commands the two knights to transport an accused witch to a remote abbey, where monks will perform a ritual in hopes of ending the pestilence.”

The film is directed by Dominic Sena, who’s worked with Cage before on the remake of Gone In 60 Seconds (which I hold as a guilty pleasure movie, I have to admit), and is written by Threshold creator/writer, Bragi F. Schut. As Alex Billington over at First Showing says, the movie would look a lot better if it weren’t for Cage being in “cheesy mode” once again and sticking out like a throbbing sore thumb, a side of Cage that’s surfaced far too often in a lot of his recent movies (Ghost Rider, anyone?).

Nonetheless, if you look past Cage there are some genuinely creepy and atmospheric looking moments to be found. The premise is great and the production design is wicked. Check the trailer out for yourself, thanks to Trailer Addict (it first appeared online at Fandango):

Alongside Cage, Season of the Witch stars Ron Perlman, Claire Foy, Christopher Lee, Stephen Campbell Moore, Robert Sheehan and Stephen Graham – Perlman and Graham are enough to get me to watch it (the latter is really building up a great career for himself, and, well, the former is frickin’ Hellboy – ’nuff said). As I said, apart from Cage I really like the look of this one.

What do you think of the trailer for Season of the Witch? Does Cage stick out for you or does he suit the role well in your eyes?

Season of the Witch is set to hit theaters on March 19th, 2010.

There are few people that are aware of the growing movie market overseas. Thailand is emerging as a serious threat in the marital arts action genre with the help of Tony Jaa (Ong Bak); Russia is proving they can make a slick and entertaining film thanks to studios like Disney (Black Lightning); and, of course, Japan has always been the source for many Hollywood studios’ “inspired” horror remakes (The Ring, The Grudge). One foreign market that tends to be brushed off as only doing kung-fu or martial art films is China.

Today we have a trailer for a new Asian film which has the odd IMDB genre label of romance/sci-fi called Ci Ling (Treasure Hunter). Why are we at Screen Rant sharing this trailer with you? Because Treasure Hunter stars an actor most English-speaking audiences may not be familiar with yet, but will be next year: Jay Chou. Chou is also playing Kato opposite Seth Rogen in the upcoming re-imagining of The Green Hornet. We thought you might a first-look at how the actor does onscreen.

Here’s the synopsis for Treasure Hunter and the trailer after the jump:

In the northwest desert where countless prosperous dynasties have flourish and fall, there is rumor of a treasure of unbelievable riches buried among it. A group of mysterious guardians have been guarding the map to the location of the treasure until a fierce rivalry erupted. A notorious international crime group, The Company, hunted down the map keeper and before they managed to secure the map, the keeper passed the map to a young chivalrous man Ciao Fei (Jay Chou). Ciao Fei was forced to give up the map to save the life of his mentor’s daughter Lan Ting (Lin Chi Ling). Teaming up with Hua Ding Bang (a famous archaeologist) and Lan Ting they embark on a dangerous journey to recover the map and fight to protect the ancient treasure.

I like the look of Treasure Hunter and even though it will never open in American theaters – unless it’s remade by Stephen Sommers, starring Brendan Fraser and Nicolas Cage in the renamed “National Treasure: Mummy Hunter”- I still look forward to watching it on DVD in a few months.

If the truth be known, a hefty portion of martial arts experts from China are fight choreographers for big Hollywood productions. Other films usually glazed over by American audiences, are the sweeping epics that China has produced in the recent years: Curse of the Golden Flower, House of Flying Daggers, and my personal favorite, Hero. I think it has something to do with American audiences’ disinterest in reading subtitles.

…And hose are just the films that make it into American theaters, thanks to the help and persuasion of people like Quentin Tarantino, who is a HUGE Asian cinema fan. There are plenty of bankable Asian actors that English audiences are familiar with: Jackie Chan (The Drunken Master), Stephen Chow (Kung Fu Hustle), Jet Li (Black Mask), Chow Yun-Fat (Confucius), Maggie Cheung (Hero), Donnie Yen (Iron Monkey), and Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon). Odds are pretty good that you’ve seen at least one of each of those actors’ films and had to read the dialog in subtitles.

What do you think about Jay Chou, Treasure Hunter and Asian cinema, like it, hate it or open to it?

Treasure Hunter opens in Asian theaters December 31, 2009. The Green Hornet opens December 22, 2010.

The International trailer for Percy Jackson & The Lightning Thief has hit the Interweb, and it looks better than the previous trailer(s) that we’ve seen for the film.

The difference? This international trailer actually sets up something of an interesting (and action-packed) story, rather than simply providing us a glimpse at something that looks like yet another Harry Potter knock-off.

Speaking of Harry Potter, Percy Jackson & The Lightning Thief is being helmed by Chris Columbus, the same guy who directed the first two installments of the Potter franchise. Percy Jackson is based on the popular young-adult novels by Rick Riordan, and tells the story of a young boy named Percy (Logan Lerman) who discovers he is the descendant of the Greek Gods, only to become embroiled in a god-war.

The cast of actors playing the gods in the movie are made up of some very familiar faces – see if you can spot them in the trailer:

In case you didn’t catch them all, the gods are Pierce Brosnan as Chiron, Uma Thurman as Madusa, Sean Bean as Zeus, Kevin McKidd as Poseidon, Rosario Dawson as Persephone Serinda Swan as Aphrodite, Erica Cerra as Hera, Luke Camilleri as Dionysus, Dylan Neal as Hermes and Melina Kanakaredes as Athena. Also in the cast are Catherine Keener as Sally Jackson and Brandon T. “Tropic Thunder” Jackson as Grover Underwood.

What did you think, did you like the latest trailer?

Percy Jackson & the Lightning Thief hits theaters on February 12, 2010.

The AFM (American Film Market) is a very big deal. Every year thousands of people attend and hundreds of films are shown by hopeful indie filmmakers trying to get picked up by a studio for a distribution deal. The festival ended last week but the deals are still coming – one of those deals was between After Dark Films and Agora Entertainment for their horror film The Final.

The Final will join 7 other films in the After Dark Horrorfest 4: 8 Films to Die For which include Hidden, Dread, The Graves, Lake Mungo and ZMD: Zombies of Mass Destruction. Here is the official synopsis for The Final (as well as a trailer for the film):

“In the scenic and remote county of Rocky Branch, Texas, the Workley ranch house would become the infamous scene known internationally on the internet as “The Final.”

“Dane, an awkward student with a deadly vendetta and suicidal tendencies, leads a group of outcasts who plot to avenge the years of humiliation they faced by the popular students at Hohn High School. Employing ideas inspired both from their classes as well as from horror films they watched, the outcasts turn the tables on the popular students who made sport of them.”

“After receiving a lake-house granted to him in his uncle’s will, Dane and his friends, Jack, Ravi, Andy and Emily prepare for a single night that will leave their tormentors scarred for life… physically and emotionally.”

The Final Trailer from AGORA ENTERTAINMENT on Vimeo.

The film, like most never-before-heard-of movies, stars some relative unknown actors and actresses – Marc Donato (Degrassi: The Next Generation), Jascha Washington, Whitney Hoy, Lindsay Seidel and Justin Arnold. Newcomer Joey Stewart is behind the camera for the first time working from Jason Kabolati’s script, who also produced The Final. Serving as executive producers on the film were Edward Lewis Von Hohn and Bill Randle.

It may be hard to discern but the question the mask tormentor asks at the end of the trailer is “What did you do to deserve this?”

That’s my question as well.

Take a look at the poster for The Final; a group of students with guns standing in a school hallway with other kids laying dead or dying in front of them. Remind you of anything? It should; 10 years ago mass murderers Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold walked into Columbine High School with guns and homemade bombs then killed 13 people, injured 21 others and then turn the guns on themselves, all in the name of revenge for being bullied.

I realize this isn’t the first time a movie has been made that hearkens back to the events surrounding April 20, 1999. Gus Van Sant told a very similar story in 2003 with his movie Elephant but that wasn’t a glorification or praise of the massacre at Columbine. It was more of a story that told of the day’s events through multiple eyes. The Final is going in a whole different direction by justifying the violence against the teens’ tormentors. Director Joey Stewart said this about The Final in a press release:

“The Final is about being picked on, bullied, and tormented, and the retaliation and revenge that it incurs. As the characters feel that life has no meaning, they make a pact for revenge that will teach these kids a valuable life lesson. It’s about what happens when people are pushed to the brink of despair, and the consequences that the responsible parties must face.”

After Dark EVP Stephanie Caleb added this statement that I personally find chilling:

“This haunting and vengeful film is a perfect addition to this year’s line-up. Anyone who has experienced the difficulties of high school will find themselves empathizing with both the nerds and the popular kids alike.”

It’s almost like this studio is saying “If you ever had a bad word to say about someone in high school, don’t be surprised when they justifiably come down on you and your friends and kill you.”

I realize this is a fictional story of horror but is this really the message Hollywood wants to send to impressionable teens? Maybe the studio just didn’t see the connection – making a film that justifies teen on teen violence – but I would think that someone along the chain would have seen the connection. We already know that Harris and Klebold were recreating a scene they saw in The Matrix and that music and video games glorifying excessive amount of violence against people played a major role in their lives (yeah, yeah, violent video games don’t make kids violent – it was all part of the pattern here).

Would it be much of a stretch to think that After Dark and Agora Entertainment should have taken a step back, looked at the bigger picture and said “We should change the motive behind the killers’ revenge”? Where does Hollywood draw the line in what they’re willing to put on the screen?

It took 10 years before someone justified the bullying the Columbine killers received that made them snap. If the same timeline holds true, then in another 2 years someone is going to make a movie about the terrorists of 9/11 being heroes for striking back at their “tormentors.” Then the director will make a ridiculous statement about “what happens when people are pushed to the brink of despair, and the consequences that the responsible parties must face.” That would be followed by the EVP of a studio praising their decision to pick the film up for distribution by saying, “This haunting and vengeful film is a perfect addition to this year’s line-up.”

What’s next? Giving us insight on a child molester and why he’s justified in his actions because women ignore him? How about a film saying it’s OK to abuse a woman because she forgot to wash her husband’s clothes or make his dinner the right way? All absurd statements you say – and there is no way those stories would ever get told as a film. But 10 years ago people were saying the same thing about the story of teens killing teens in revenge for bullying.

What do you think?

Those looking to get a glimpse at next year’s NBC Thursday primetime lineup-inspired hybrid film are in luck as 20th Century Fox has release the first trailer for the upcoming Steve Carell and Tina Fey romantic, action, comedy film Date Night.

This marks the first film by director Shawn Levy since his box office hits Night at the Museum and Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian raked in over $1 Billion. Not only does Levy have a new film, but also a script written by the talented Brian Koppelman and David Levien (Ocean’s Thirteen) with revisions by Josh Klausner (Shrek The Third), Simon Kinberg (Mr. and Mrs. Smith) and Aline Bros McKenna (The Devil Wears Prada). (You may remember the names Simon Kinberg and Aline Brosh McKenna as they are the writing team to sell a $2 million film pitch to Paramount with J.J. Abrams.)

Still, with so much talent involved this film is either going to be really good or really bad. The fact that they had so many extremely talented writers on this project has discouraged me quite a bit. Pick any of the writers who have touched this script and they’ve each delivered amazing material on their own. Why would one film need all of them? (If it’s really broken and needs help is my guess.)

In case you’re still wondering what I’m talking about with all this gobbledygook, here’s the official description below.

The Fosters are a typical suburban couple whose lives – including their weekly date nights of dinner and a movie – have become routine. To reignite the marital spark, they visit a trendy Manhattan bistro where a case of mistaken identity turns their evening into the ultimate date night-gone-awry. But as Claire and Phil take their unexpected walk on the wild side, they begin to remember what made them so special together.

What are you doing still hanging around here trying to find things to read, check out the trailer below.

Maybe I watch The Office too much, but I can’t help but feel that every movie Steve Carell has been in he continues to play his character Michael Scott through-out. While some people might not agree with my description of Evan Almighty as Michael Scott builds an ark, fans of The Office will be able to spot some very Michael Scott specific mannerisms in this trailer. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing, but I’d rather watch a movie with two new characters and not a Liz Lemon/Michael Scott mash-up.

That being said, there are some moments in the trailer that made me laugh and the cameos are interesting, but may come off a little hacky in the end (who knew Marky-Mark had such the spy setup – probably had this stuff left over from Get Smart). I’m probably going to pass on this movie in the theater, but when this film comes out on cable or shows up as an in-flight movie, I’ll happily watch it.

Enough of me, though. Will you be making this film your Date Night? (Wakka-wakka! How do you like my pun?)

Date Night is set to be released in theaters April 9, 2010.

The first widely released official trailer for Kick-Ass wasn’t meant to hit the interwebs until this Friday, at least according to the official site, but it’s out now and we have it here for you!

Kick-Ass is the precedent setting comic book movie by Matthew Vaughn who took it upon himself to make the movie his own way, the proper way, without the restrictions of Hollywood studios. Instead he made it true to the comics, earned the support of the fans with a huge presentation at Comic-Con and had distributors start a bidding war for it after the fact.

As we know, Lionsgate happily landed the film and set its release for next spring keeping the film intact and paying tribute to Vaughn’s work.

The footage shown at Comic-Con had fans excited and now you can share in that too with this little taste of what’s to come – watch and enjoy!

It looks like a lot of fun and trust me, from the Comic-Con footage we saw in San Diego, this is but a hint of the entertainment to be had.

Kick-Ass is based the comic-series written by Mark Millar and illustrated by John Romita, Jr. and the film adaptation (written by Jane Goldman) stays true to the story about a young student named Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson) who makes the decision to become a “real-life superhero.”

After making his costume and naming himself “Kick-Ass” and sets out to fight crime while not actually having any superpowers himself. This leads to more heroes and villains as the harsh realization of what being a superhero is all about sets in, surrounded in a nice comedic tone.

Alongside Aaron Johnson, the film stars Nicolas Cage, Chloe Moretz, Mark Strong, Xander Berkeley and Christopher Mintz-Plasse.

What do you think of the trailer?

If you missed it, check out the sweet set of Kick-Ass posters that debuted last week as part of our Poster Friday feature.

Kick-Ass opens April 16, 201o.

After seeing some low-resolution photos of what looked to be some awesome one-sheets for Louis Leterrier’s upcoming remake of Clash of the Titans, combined with its stellar cast, I couldn’t be more excited to see Sam Worthington lay down the pain as Perseus against Medusa and the Kraken.

Based on Greek Mythology, the Warner Bros. production of Clash of the Titans is a remake of the classic 1981 film, well-known for its practical stop-motion effects. We’ve been waiting patiently to get a real good look at the film and that time has finally come.

So without further ado, here is the first official teaser trailer for Clash of the Titans:

Check out the HD version at Yahoo.

The cast already had me in the theater as did director Louis Leterrier who did a fantastic job with The Incredible Hulk last year. It looks cool to me (although I miss the Ray Harryhausen practical effects and this is the opposite extreme) and I can’t wait for more. If you’re looking for more on Clash of the Titans, be sure to check out the set photos and behind-the-scenes footage we posted recently.

Here’s the synopsis if you’re curious about the story:

In Clash of the Titans, the ultimate struggle for power pits men against kings and kings against gods. But the war between the gods themselves could destroy the world. Born of a god but raised as a man, Perseus (Sam Worthington) is helpless to save his family from Hades (Ralph Fiennes), vengeful god of the underworld. With nothing left to lose, Perseus volunteers to lead a dangerous mission to defeat Hades before he can seize power from Zeus (Liam Neeson) and unleash hell on earth. Leading a daring band of warriors, Perseus sets off on a perilous journey deep into forbidden worlds. Battling unholy demons and fearsome beasts, he will only survive if he can accept his power as a god, defy his fate and create his own destiny.

Seeing and knowing Worthington as the star here alongside his role in this summer’s Terminator Salvation will help moviegoers will see him as a higher profile star which may help leading up to next month’s eagerly anticipated release of James Cameron’s Avatar.

What do you think of the trailer?

Clash of the Titans stars Sam Worthington, Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes, Gemma Arterton, Danny Huston and Jason Flemyng. It’s set to hit theaters March 26, 2010.

As some of our regular readers may know by now, we at Screen Rant like to hear about small studio indie films that may find a way to bring some original stories to the table and become widely successful. The recently successful Paranormal Activity is the biggest thing in the indie world since sliced bread. Last week, we introduced you to a new indie web series Broken Toy and of course we have been following the movies Black Death, Solomon Kane and The Tournament, in hopes of seeing them snag a big-screen wide release.

Today we bring you two trailers for a new film by indie studio Double Edge Films, which hopes to continue the indie breakout trend with their movie INK. Written and directed by Jamin Winans (which might make my top 10 coolest names – Kofi Outlaw is on that list as well), INK is the story of a little girl caught in a “metaphysical war being fought between the forces of light and darkness.” She gets kidnapped by a mysterious creature called Ink and is “taken through a labyrinthine world of dream states while those who love her fight to bring her back into the real world and bring salvation to her desperate father.”

It’s an interesting story, and while usually I don’t enjoy dream state movies (because they tend to be over-stylized in order to make sure the audience understands the characters are in a dream), INK intrigued me because of the attention it is gathering. IMDB shows the movie’s popularity up 81,000%! Surely, all those people can’t be wrong?

Trailer 2

The adorable Quinn Hunchar plays the 8-year-old Emma Sullivan while Chris Kelly plays her broken and grieving father, John Sullivan. The “rescue team” known as Storytellers, the group of people whose task it is to bring Emma back from the clutches of Ink, are made up of Liev (Jessica Duffy), Jacob (Jeremy Make), Allel (Jennifer Batter), Gabe (Eme Ikwuakor) and are led from dream world to dream world by Sara (Shelby Malone).

Kiowa K. Winans (seriously does everybody involved with this production have a cool name?) joined up with Jamin in 2005 and has been working on INK for the past two years. The amount of work all parties involved have put into this project shows in all the great details and I’m glad to see their hard work paying off. Hopefully, they will continue to make great films and eventually a major studio will get their head out of their nether regions and start realizing that audiences like to see films like this.

Is INK something you would like to see in theaters? Well some of you may be in luck because there will be screening showing at the following locations and times:

What do you think of Double Edge Films latest offering INK and is it something you would have like to see on the big screen?

INK comes out on Blu-ray and DVD today, November 10th, 2009.

A few days back we got a look at the new three-and-a-half minute international trailer for James Cameron’s Avatar and it was incredible.

Not only did it vastly improve over the first theatrical trailer, it provided a much deeper glimpse into the story of the film, its characters and its many awesome action sequences -- all wrapped up in one big beautiful 3D colorful experience.

With the launch of Avatar’s Full-on marketing, we now have two more videos to share with you: The Japanese Avatar trailer and a brand new 30-second TV spot that aired during the final World Series game last night.

To start, here’s the Japanese trailer that’s in English with Japanese subtitles:

Next up, the high-octane TV spot for Avatar which flips through plenty of action scenes along with a few quick scenes of some of the characters:

As I’ve said before, I’m completely sold on this and have been for a long time. I expect seeing this in IMAX 3D will be quite a unique experience and the only way to truely appreciate what the film has set out to do. That’s not to say it won’t be kick-ass movie in regular 3D or even in non-3D screens.

James Cameron’s Avatar cast includes Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana as its stars alongside Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Rodriguez, Stephen Lang, Giovanni Ribisi and CCH Pounder.

If you missed it, check out the behind-the-scenes Avatar featurette.

What do you think of these promo videos and the last trailer?

These Sherlock Holmes trailers just keep on coming, don’t they? An action-packed fourth one has appeared online over at MTV, and we have it here for your viewing pleasure. We’ve seen plenty of action in all the other trailers for the movie – including explosions, chases and hand-to-hand combat – but this latest trailer really turns up the action significantly.

Just as a reminder, Sherlock Holmes stars Robert Downey Jr. as the titular detective, and it co-stars Jude Law as his faithful assistant, Dr. Watson. Mark Strong plays the villain, Lord Blackwood and Rachel McAdams is the beautiful love interest, Irene Adler. Directed by Guy Ritchie (Snatch, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels), this fresh take on the classic detective character makes use of some things not seen in most Holmes tellings, namely his often-forgotten martial arts skills.

And now here’s the latest Sherlock Holmes trailer, courtesy of Trailer Addict (originating from MTV). Enjoy:

With the amount of action in that trailer, I’m just wondering how much is actually in the film. Have they used any and all of the action scenes in this trailer and thus we’ll have seen it all once the movie opens? Or is there so much action in the actual movie that what we see here in the trailer is just a taste of more to come? When it was revealed Ritchie would be directing, and that he would be taking the character in a fresher, more action-orientated direction, I didn’t expect the action to totally rule the film.

To me, one of the most important aspects of this new Sherlock Holmes (or any for that matter) is the “working” relationship between Holmes and Dr. Watson, which looks to have been nailed by Downey Jr. and Law. But if this trailer is anything to go by, the action is going to take precedent over everything else, and if that’s the case, then color me disappointed.

However, there’s always a chance that the studio is just releasing this action-packed trailer to get the audience it may not have snagged otherwise. After all, the other Holmes trailers didn’t go overboard with the action – here’s hoping the film is a great mixture of action and everything else, as it should be.

What do you think of the latest Sherlock Holmes trailer? Do you think the focus on action is just to get more people interested? Or is it the driving force of this movie?

Sherlock Holmes hits theaters on Christmas Day, 2009.

I love salt, all types of salt really – Sea salt, table salt, rock salt and Evelyn Salt. Not familiar with that last one? She’s next summer’s female action spy played the ever so pouty-lipped Angelina Jolie. At one point, Tom Cruise was rumored to be attached to the Phillip Noyce (Patriot Games, The Bone Collector) directed secret double agent yarn but ultimately, Noyce and company decided to go with a more feminine touch. Good move guys!

Jolie has proven time and again that she is the go-to woman in Hollywood for lead female action roles. Say what you want about the Tomb Raider movie, but as Lara Croft there can be no other woman playing the part. Same goes for her roles in Mr. and Mrs. Smith and last summer’s Wanted. In Salt, she appears to be just as convincing while playing a wrongly accused woman on the run.

Salt co-stars Liev Schreiber (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) as Agent Winter, and Chiwetel Ejiofor (Redbelt, Serenity) that IMDB only lists as Peabody. Equilibrium (which is by far my favorite film of all time) script writer Kurt Wimmer penned the Salt script together with Brian Helgeland, who has an impressive resume himself (L.A. Confidential, Payback, Man on Fire).

With Noyce, Wimmer, Helgeland, Jolie, Schreiber, and Ejiofor all involved in the project, Salt looks to season up next summer’s movie line up.

What did you think about the teaser trailer for Salt? Think it will live up to its trailers expectations?

Every time that a new Uwe Boll film comes out, I watch it hoping that this will be the film in which he succeeds in blowing me away; I haven’t had that happen yet. Sure, his next release, Rampage, looks like it may be his finest work to date -- but that is like saying a small bag of garbage is better than a large bag of garbage. Our buddies over at /Film have pointed out a new trailer for Boll’s next film titles Storm, or Final Storm if you check out the IMDB page.

To be honest, with Boll’s track record of video game movies, I fully expected Storm to be about the new Blackberry phone; however, the only synopsis I could find for Storm was on IMDB and it looks like I I’ll have to wait for that Blackberry film:

“A stranger named Silas flees from a devastating storm and finds refuge with Tom and Gillian on their farm. While struggling with the Storm, Silas seems to be the only one who can help Tom and Gillian to find their son but there are other more dangerous forces out there, that are waiting for the three.”

Storm stars former Beverly Hills 90210 hunk Luke Perry (8 Seconds) and former Mrs. Jim Carrey, Lauren Holly (Dumb and Dumber) along with Steve Bacic (Good Luck Chuck) and Cole Heppell (The Fog). Boll usually writes and directs most of his films but in this instance, Storm was written by Canadian Tim McGregor, whose previous credits you most likely have never heard of.

Watch the trailer after the jump:

The trailer feels a little off to me. The dialog is delivered OK (I suppose) and maybe the film is edited better, but the trailer feels slapped together. To me it seems like a series of scenes pasted together and doesn’t do anything to explain the story. The trailer starts with floods and TV signals going off air but then a stranger staggers into their home in the middle of nowhere and the next 45 seconds or so are dedicated to the family just hanging out at the house. Then out of the blue a bunch of people are attacking them in a town. Huh?

Because I’ve made it one of my life’s goals to watch every film made by Uwe Boll, then I will be seeing this (most likely on DVD since I doubt it makes it to theaters in my town) but based on the trailer I don’t have very high hopes that Boll has surpassed or equaled the mild success he achieved with Rampage.

Oh well, there is always his next attempt Blackout which according to Wikipedia, “Boll is now offering the opportunity for anyone to “co-produce” his upcoming film Blackout. In exchange for a gift of 33 euros ($49 U.S.), a donor will receive a limited edition DVD of the film and a signed certificate from the cast and crew.”

On the flip-side, I am hearing good things about his German film Max Schmeling, the true story about the real life German boxer.

What do you think about Uwe Boll’s latest movie Storm?

Storm is supposed to release 2009 according to IMDB but I was unable to find an official release date.

Finally! Our first real look at Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time has arrived in the form of this HD trailer courtesy of Rotten Tomatoes. Based on the popular video game series which made it big with the release of Sands of Time back in 2003 and its pair of sequels the following two years, the video game adaptation is hoped to help bring a change to a movie genre that has traditionally suffered from low quality movies based on known video game franchises.

Prince of Persia stars Jake Gyllenhaal as Prince Dastan (unnamed in the video game) as he tries save the world using the an ancient time-manipulating weapon and the help of a foe/love-interest.

Check out the action-packed and visually appealing trailer after the jump.

For those unfamiliar with the story of the movie, here’s the synopsis:

From the team that brought the “Pirates of the Caribbean” trilogy to the big screen, Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films present PRINCE OF PERSIA: THE SANDS OF TIME, an epic action-adventure set in the mystical lands of Persia. A rogue prince (JAKE GYLLENHAAL) reluctantly joins forces with a mysterious princess (GEMMA ARTERTON) and together, they race against dark forces to safeguard an ancient dagger capable of releasing the Sands of Time—a gift from the gods that can reverse time and allow its possessor to rule the world.

Watch and enjoy:

As Screen Rant master Vic points out, this trailer sure has the feel and aesthetic of Stephen Sommers’ The Mummy. With the team behind the movie, we can see that this is a classic summer blockbuster for everyone along the same lines of The Mummy and Pirates of the Caribbean.

There sure are some extreme and epic visuals, and I dig the shout out to Ubisoft’s (the game developer) other game franchise which followed in the footsteps of their modern Prince of Persia a series: Assassin’s Creed (the scene where he’s on the tower near the beginning about the jump off).

I can’t deny that the trailer looks like a lot of fun but I’m a little disappointed we didn’t get to see two of the things most important and visually stunning about the games: the Prince running and jumping of walls and epic multi-enemy sword fights mixed with a little Zack Snyder-style slow-mo. I have a feeling there’s some of that to come though.

Starring alongside Mr. Gyllenhaal are Gemma Arterton (Quantum of Solace & the upcoming Clash of the Titans), Alfred Molina (Spider-Man 2 & the upcoming The Sorcerer’s Apprentice) Ben Kingsley (The Assignment & the upcoming Shutter Island).

If you missed it, check out the pitch trailer that Prince of Persia creator Jordan Mechner and writer John August used to sell the movie idea to Disney. It’s footage taken from the game, strung together to show what kind of movie and visuals they could employ in live-action.

What do you think of the first official Prince of Persia movie trailer? Could this break the trend of awful video game movies and open the industry up to the next big thing after comic book movies?

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is directed by Mike Newell and opens in theaters May 28, 2010.

This would probably be the reason why Paramount asked us a day or so later to pull the video. A couple of weeks later, a proper teaser trailer came out with the exact same footage and to say it was tons better would be an understatement.

Today, thanks to Trailer Spy, Dreamworks has released the official trailer for How to Train Your Dragon in glorious HD and it is beautiful. The story is based on the 2003 children’s book by the same name written by Cressida Cowell. The movie is set in the land of Vikings and dragons and follows a Viking boy named Hiccup on the island of Berk. For Hiccup and his people, fighting dragons is an everyday occurrence. The world Hiccup knows changes entirely as he ultimately befriends a wounded dragon instead of killing him, much to the embarrassment of his father.

How to Train Your Dragon is an animated 3D CGI movie helmed by Lilo & Stitch directors Dean DeBlois and Chris Sanders with the screen play written by Dean DeBlois. Jay Baruchel (The Sorcerer’s Apprentice) is the voice of Hiccup with Gerard Butler (Gamer, Law Abiding Citizen) joining him as the voice of Stoick, Hiccup’s dad and the chief of the tribe. Recognizable names, America Ferrera (Ugly Betty), Craig Ferguson (The Drew Carey Show), Jonah Hill (Superbad), Christopher Mintz-Plasse (Kick Ass) and Saturday Night Live regular Kristen Wiig (Whiplash) all lend their voices as well.

This isn’t a new story – a wise cracking son who just wants to be himself doesn’t live up to his father’s high expectations while still looking for his validation. It’s been told numerous times before but it’s never been told with dragons and who doesn’t like a good dragon story? I’m not a huge fan of 3-D technology but if it’s going to be used, then I feel like CGI animation is best suited for it. How to Train Your Dragon is following in the footsteps of this summer’s highly successful 3-D animated movie Up.

Did you enjoy the trailer for How to Train Your Dragon and what do you think about the use of 3-D technology for it?

Horror and comedy are two of my favorite genres and just like a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup, I like when they are combined. Last month, Screen Rant writer Ross Miller did a series on horror films that were combined with other genres. One of those combinations was horror plus comedy and the movie he choose was Shaun of the Dead. Other great examples are the always popular Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness with Bruce “The Chin” Campbell.

Well today, courtesy of our friends at Bloody Disgusting, we have a new trailer for the upcoming horror/comedy film Tucker & Dale vs. Evil. If the film is half as funny as the trailer then I am really looking forward to seeing it. The movie stars Alan Tudyk (Firefly, Dodgeball) and Tyler Labine (Zack and Miri Make a Porno) as two redneck hillbillies that want to do nothing more than enjoy their new vacation cabin in the middle of the woods.

Of course, the mandatory horror staple of stupid, horny college kids are in the film and they think themselves better than our backwoods brethren. After Tucker and Dale rescue one of the kids from drowning, the teens accuse the guys of kidnapping or killing her and embark on a quest to rescue her. Through a series of horrific misunderstandings, the teens are killed one by one but not by the people you would think. Watch the red band trailer after the jump.

I like the fact that these are just nice, honest guys that aren’t trying to bother anybody but are stereotyped just by how they look. It reminds me a lot of those old Church of the Latter Day Saints commercials where the black guy dressed in hip-hop urban clothing walks up behind the white guy dressed in a business suit. Just when the white guy thinks he is about to get mugged, the black guy hands the white guy his wallet that he dropped instead. Moral of the story – you can’t judge a book by its cover.

Tucker & Dale vs. Evil is just like that LDS commercial; the film is directed by newcomer Eli Craig, produced by Thomas Augsberger (Waiting) and Deepak Nayar (Bend It Like Beckham) and also stars is Katrina Bowden (Sex Drive). It’s a nice change of pace to the see the jerky college kids as the bad guys instead of the turning the guys that like to hunt, fish and pretty much just be left alone into mindless blood-thirsty killers.

What do you think about this new horror/comedy concept for Tucker & Dale vs. Evil and do you plan on watching it? Do you think it could become as popular a cult favorite as Evil Dead and Shaun of the Dead?

Tucker & Dale vs. Evil slaughters it way into theater screens soon.

Green Zone is inspired by the Rajiv Chandrasekaran book, “Imperial Life in the Emerald City” and the first trailer for the flick debuted online last week alongside Damon’s other upcoming movie, Invictus.

Synopsis:

During the U.S.-led occupation of Baghdad in 2003, Chief Warrant Officer Roy Miller (Damon) and his team of Army inspectors were dispatched to find weapons of mass destruction believed to be stockpiled in the Iraqi desert. Rocketing from one booby-trapped and treacherous site to the next, the men search for deadly chemical agents but stumble instead upon an elaborate cover-up that inverts the purpose of their mission.

Spun by operatives with intersecting agendas, Miller must hunt through covert and faulty intelligence hidden on foreign soil for answers that will either clear a rogue regime or escalate a war in an unstable region. And at this blistering time and in this combustible place, he will find the most elusive weapon of all is the truth.

Now watch and enjoy:

I dig the trailer a lot but the two callouts I’ve got to make are:

I feel I know the entire story and the twists – there better been a lot more to the story and twists that weren’t revealed here.

This movie looks and feels like a Bourne movie… and it stars the same star AND the same director. They really should of just put this in the Bourne franchise since it’s very loosely based on “Imperial Life in the Emerald City.”

Alongside Matt Damon, Green Zone’s talented cast includes Jason Isaacs, Brendan Gleeson, Greg Kinnear and Amy Ryan. The screenplay was written by Brian Helgeland.

What do you think of the trailer? Feel the Bourne vibe?

Green Zone opens in theaters March 12, 2010.

Not everyone was 100% sold from the first trailer for Avatar, but perhaps this trailer may sway those skeptics over. This promo focuses on more of the human element and story structure which will help connect with mainstream moviegoing audiences.

Watch and enjoy:

EPIC!

I’m biased because I love James Cameron’s previous works and because I was treated to nearly half an hour of footage while at San Diego Comic-Con. So, needless to say, I’m very pumped for this flick. This trailer does however, give away a lot of the film’s story and setup, and I imagine they had to reveal as much in such a lengthy trailer because a lot of regular folks (who don’t read Screen Rant) simply had no idea what the film is about.

After seeing this, they sure as hell do now. Don’t fret if you feel spoiled, I expect there’s some unexpected twists and turns from Avatar waiting us because Cameron emphasized that in the marketing, they’d be saving a lot back for the actual theatrical release.

Did any of you get that 300 vibe from Sam Worthington’s character towards the end?

What do you think of the new footage?

Avatar stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Rodriguez and Giovanni Ribisi. It opens December 18, 2009 and we’ll be there.

The Cup of Tears trailer has been gathering momentum with fans claiming its beautiful CGI puts that of many Hollywood studios to shame. It’s a unique hybrid, featuring ancient samurai empires battling in a post-apocalyptic future – something you might associate with Asia, but no. Believe it or not, filming was done in Slovenia and post production in Ireland.

And while it looks sci-fi, the plot reads like a fairy tale:

The Cup of Tears follows a scorned geisha who creates a magical cup made of tears that causes any man who drinks from it to fall into a permanent sleep. One night the cup is stolen, setting off a chain of events that threatens civil war amongst the clans. Taro, a gifted samurai, sets out to find the cup and one who can break the spell.

Though this summary and what’s in the trailer don’t seem to match, the visuals look so great that I don’t think you’ll care. Samurai dodging rockets? Pixelated geisha dancing across digital billboards? Bring it!

The three minute trailer took two years to make, a labor of love from Gary Shore, an as-yet-unknown who’s directed some commercials and music videos. He’s hoping to find backing to make this into a full-length feature.

At first I thought that wouldn’t be a problem. I even considered starting a letter writing campaign. But on second viewing, I changed my tune. Because ultimately, this trailer looks more like a video game – one I’d be thrilled to play.

As a movie, I’m interested for sure, but a samurai film lives or dies (excuse the pun) on its swordplay. And on that note, the quick cuts and glimpses of battles we get here fail to sell me. Maybe I’m old school, but I like my kung fu with stunt doubles, wire play, and just enough CGI to clean it up.

The Cup of Tears trailer is almost entirely computer generated. Aside from some close-ups, there’s not much to go on as to what this movie would actually sound like, or really even what it’s about. Great CGI visuals can’t carry an otherwise awful movie.

So, I’m on the fence about whether The Cup of Tears deserves funding, or whether it’s just a really impressive personal project. What do you think?

Back in June of this year the first trailer appeared for Shutter Island, Martin Scorsese’s latest collaboration with favorite leading man, Leonardo DiCaprio. It was creepy-as-hell and solidified it on my list of most anticipated movies of 2009. Unfortunately a couple of months later news hit that Paramount had moved the release date from October 2nd this year to February 19th next year. As a movie fan – as well as a follower of daily movie news – that ranks right up there with the most annoying things to happen.

A second theatrical trailer surfaced at the start of last month that even though it wasn’t as effective the first (maybe it was the initial exposure to the creepy material that lead to the effect it had on me) but nonetheless made it look great. And now we have a third Shutter Island trailer for your viewing pleasure, which is basically a rehashing of what we’ve previously seen in the first two trailers, with some new footage thrown in. But above all, all I can think of throughout it is how much longer we have to wait for the movie to come out. Check it out, thanks to Spike:

I don’t like the way Paramount is choosing to handle the advertising for Shutter Island, in that they appear to give far too much of the plot away. But apart from that the trailers for the movie are well put together, and look like they highlight the key elements of the film, such as the intensity and overall creepiness. DiCaprio looks like he’s turned in another great performance to add to his ever-expanding list (although I know there are some Leo haters out there ).

Alongside DiCaprio, Shutter Island co-stars Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley, Emily Mortimer, Max von Sydow, Jackie Earle Haley and Michelle Williams. It’s directed by the great Martin Scorsese, with the screenplay written by Laeta Kalogridis, and adapted from the Dennis Lehane (Mystic River, Gone Baby Gone) novel of the same name.

Shutter Island will now hit theaters on February 19th, 2010. Just a little under four months to go… [sigh]…

Just recently a couple of trailers appeared online for two highly-anticipated films starring Matt Damon: Paul Greengrass’ Green Zone and Clint Eastwood’s Invictus. They are very different types of movies – Green Zone being like Bourne set during the Iraq War and Invictus looking like one of those biopics that is clearly “Oscar-ish.” Check out both of the trailers below.

Green Zone

Green Zone reunites the Bourne director Paul Greengrass and star, Matt Damon, and is a war-drama/thriller about about a pair of CIA agents on the trail of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. We reported back in the summer of this year that Green Zone had been moved from a late 2009 release to March 12th, 2010, leading to some confusion over that why, as the film seems like prime material for the Oscars.

However, as you’ll see in the trailer below – much as was the case with Ridley Scott’s Body of Lies last year – it looks like more of a straight-up action film rather than a dramatic, “weighted” Oscar contender. Take a look and judge for yourself:

So Green Zone might not be the type of film I had in mind when I first got wind of it getting made, but damn does it look good. Like I mentioned, the situation reminds me of Body of Lies – and is it just me or does the trailer for Green Zone give off the same kind of vibe? Anyway, I can’t wait for Damon and Greengrass’ first collaboration outside of the Bourne franchise. They certainly have a high standard to live up to, but then again, is it really fair to compare this with Bourne?

Along with Damon, Green Zone co-stars Jason Isaacs (Harry Potter), Greg Kinnear, Brendan Gleeson and Amy Ryan (Gone Baby Gone). It’s written by prolific screenwriter Brian Helgeland (Mystic River, Man on Fire, L.A. Confidential), based on the book by Rajiv Chandrasekaran.

Green Zone is now set to be released on March 12th, 2010.

Invictus

Perhaps the more anticipated of the two (at least at this point in time) is Clint Eastwood’s latest directorial effort, entitled Invictus (which is Latin for “unconquered,” FYI). It stars the great Morgan Freeman as Nelson Mandela (a perfect casting choice if ever there was one), while Matt Damon plays Francois Pienaar, a Rugby player for South Africa when Mandela campaigned, “to host the 1995 Rugby World Cup event as an opportunity to unite his countrymen.”

Unfortunately, the first Invictus trailer isn’t available to embed so for now you’ll have to head over to Apple.com to view it (we’ll have it for you here ASAP). But I highly recommend you watch it over at Apple as, like the Green Zone trailer above, it looks pretty damn great. If you can get past the jarring accent being put on by Freeman as Mandela, as well as the odd structure of the trailer itself, I think this is a shoe-in for at least a couple of acting Oscars, if not some noms for the film itself.

.

Invictus Trailer

.

Ah, that time of year has rolled once again…

Invictus hits U.S. theaters on December 11th, 2009, and hits UK theaters on February 5th, 2010.

What do you think of the trailers for Green Zone and Invictus? Which one do you think looks better?
