Mortal Kombat Movie Reboot Is A Go

Fans of Mortal Kombat owe Kevin Tancharoen a round of applause. Not only did his viral independent teaser trailer, Mortal Kombat: Rebirth sway Warner Bros. into financing a 10-part web series (Mortal Kombat: Legacy) but he has successfully earned himself the director’s chair for the full-length feature film reboot of Mortal Kombat.

Deadline has the news which confirms that New Line Cinema is going forward with the Mortal Kombat reboot, which will be directed by Tancharoen off a screenplay to be written by Oren Uziel, who also wrote Rebirth.

There’s no word on a budget or cast as of yet, but the Legacy webseries featured recognizable talent including Michael Jai White, Jeri Ryan and Tahmoh Penikett. If Mortal Kombat is going to get a large budget and a big marketing push, there’s a good chance most, if not all of the actors from ...

Mortal Kombat: Legacy Episode 9 – Cyrax & Sektor Now Online

It’s a bittersweet time for fans of director Kevin Tancharoen’s web series, Mortal Kombat: Legacy – as the last, and arguably most exciting, episode in season one of the project has arrived online.

The final episode chronicles the infamous Lin-Kuei cyborg initiative – which transformed some of the clan’s most esteemed assassins into mechanized mercenaries. Robotic versions of Cyrax and Sektor were hinted at in the first episode of Mortal Kombat: Legacy and serve as an eye-popping way to close-out the series (for the time being at least).

Comic-Con 2011: ‘Mortal Kombat: Legacy’ Panel

Fans of director Kevin Tancharoen’s Mortal Kombat: Legacy have no doubt been waiting anxiously to see the final episode in the fighting game-turned-live-action webseries. While we already know that episode nine will center around the cyborg-ninjas Cyrax and Sektor, early images of a possible third cyber-Kombatant have re-ignited interest in the series – which hasn’t aired a new episode in over a month and a half.

While fans at home will have to wait until Sunday night to see the conclusion of Mortal Kombat: Legacy season one – Comic Con 2011 attendees will be getting a sneak peak at some robo-assassin action.

Director Kevin Tancharoen has found some solid momentum in the final episodes of Mortal Kombat: Legacy. His Mortal Kombat: Rebirth-esque Raiden episode drew mostly positive reactions from fans – despite a number of liberties that may have been difficult for MK purists to swallow.

Mortal Kombat: Legacy continues to be a crowd pleaser on the Internet. The first episode is nearing 10 million views, episode two and three are about to hit 3 million – and last week’s Edenia/Outworld-centric episode has almost reached the 2 million mark.

Today is a special day for Mortal Kombat fans. Not only is the 9th iteration of the successful and violent video game franchise hitting store shelves today, but episode 2 of director Kevin Tancharoen’s re-imagining of the series origins has also released online.

The first episode of Mortal Kombat: Legacy introduced us to Stryker, Sonya and Jax as they attempt to take down Kano and Black Dragon’s ‘Cyber Initiative.’ Episode 2 concludes the events of the warehouse trap and action sequences, starting the transformation of two key characters into how we know them as from the games.

The Mortal Kombat: Legacy web series premiered last week to an overwhelmingly positive fan reaction. The video is quickly surpassing five million views and Warner Bros. has announced plans to release the series on television and DVD in addition to the initial web distribution.

After a steady batch of Mortal Kombat casting news and set photos, word on the highly-anticipated web series had, for the most part, quieted down – as director Kevin Tancharoen prepared to unleash the series in conjunction with the upcoming Mortal Kombat video game.
