MTV caught up with screenwriter/voice actor David Hayter this past week and learned that work on a film adaptation of the Metal Gear Solid video game will not continue until a deal is made between the game’s original creator and Sony.

Hayter has provided the voice of Metal Gear Solid lead character Solid Snake since the late 90s, and actually wrote a script for the film adaptation of the game. In fact, Hayter’s credentials as a screenwriter include the X-Men movie, X2, and even a Watchmen screenplay which earned him the praise of the graphic novel’s notoriously anti-Hollywood author, Alan Moore. He also earned a co-writing credit for the 2009 movie version of Watchmen.

Hollywood has a hard time making great video game movies & we know why: They're picking the wrong games. Here are our suggestions for some ridiculous game to movie prospects.

“Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results”. – Albert Einstein

Mr. Einstein could have very well been talking about Hollywood and all of the video game movies turds it has squeezed out in the past 27 years. Some people incorrectly think the wretched Super Mario Brothers kicked off the video game movie trend in 1993 but actually it started way back in 1984 with the thriller Cloak & Dagger, based off the Atari game, starring a young Henry Thomas (E.T.) and Dabney Coleman.

Regardless of which year we start from, there have been dozens of movies made from video games and, although some have come close (Mortal Kombat, Tomb Raider), NONE have actually been good. There have been some financially successful video game films but a large box office draw ...

Click to continue reading 1001 Ridiculous (but Possible) Upcoming Video Game Movies

From Game Rant:

Steve at Collider interviewed producer Mike De Luca (Ghost Rider, Brothers) last week and in their hour-long conversation they touched on the subject of the Metal Gear Solid movie. With the film industry making a push into video game adaptations and it possibly becoming the next comic book movie genre, it seems like a no-brainer that the hot property would be ripe for a film adaptation.

According to De Luca however, things are seemingly on hold for the time being as not everyone’s fully on board, mainly the video game companies. In this case, the developer is Konami and it looks like they maybe fearful of letting a Hollywood studio adapt their prized property considering the history of quality in video game movies.

Take this one with a huge grain of salt.

There’s been virtually no movement that I know of on the Metal Gear Solid movie of late – but today someone sent me a picture they say they took at Sony Pictures in Culver City, CA this weekend of what looks like a movie poster for Metal Gear Solid.

And that’s not the craziest part…

The pic below shows a July 2011 opening date… and it features Christian Bale & Daniel Craig. I’ve included the original pic and a “tweaked” version to make things more clear.

Here’s the original:

And here’s the cleaned up version:

Christian Bale & Daniel Craig in Metal Gear Solid?
