MGM Bankruptcy Stalls ‘Three Stooges’, ‘Robocop’ and More

MGM’s bankruptcy has already delayed the next Bond movie and left The Hobbit without a director, and as predicted, the subsequent fallout continues to claim victims.

We recently reported that the Red Dawn remake has been shelved indefinitely (it’s currently in post-production), and now we have updates on several other films that you won’t be seeing in the near future, thanks yet again to MGM’s money troubles.

Remember The Three Stooges movie that was suppossed to come out? The Farrelly Brothers were directing it, Sean Penn was circling the role of Larry, Benicio Del Toro had reportedly been circling Moe for a longtime… Even Jim Carey was rumored for Curly at one point.

Well, none of that matters now, the film is stalled. No Three Stooges anytime soon (some thought it would be out this year ...

Mid-Week Movie News Wrap Up – April 2, 2009

This week:

Tom Cruise and Denzel Washington Circle David Cronenberg and make him nervous; Tony Scott cho-cho- choses his next project; Kevin Spacey is The Father of Invention and Paul Walker and Vin Diesel start the engine on Fast and Furious 5!

1. David Cronenberg has been talking about The Matarese Circle – a thriller that may possibly star Tom Cruise and Denzel Washington.The film would be the first (real) time that Cronenberg has played the Hollywood game. Having said that he nearly helmed Basic Instinct 2, what a lucky dodge that was!

While Cruise and Washington aren’t officially attached they are interested in the film that has a rewrite by Cronenberg on the way.

Cronenbeg told The Toronto Star:

“I’ve spoken to both Tom and Denzel, and they both want to do it. Usually when I write, I don’t visualize the characters, because I want them to have a life of their own, ...

This Week:

Will The Blair Witch return? Sam Raimi travels abroad for horror and feels some Anguish at The Dorm; Two Face and Johnny Depp drink Rum; Cruise and Washington in The Matarese Circle.

1. Might we be seeing The Blair Witch a decade after it was first unleashed?

There appears to be a possibility. Creators of the franchise Dan Myrick and Ed Sanchez want to make another sequel to their little film that put the word profit in profitability.

Myrick told Digital Spy:

”Myself and the producer, Gregg Hale, have been talking and revisiting the idea behind a prequel that explores the original story and mythology of Blair Witch folklore’. Ultimately the decision is up to Lionsgate, which owns the rights to the project and whether or not they want to take the leap with us. Welcome to yet another jam-packed, news filled installment of the Mid-Week Movie News Wrap Up.

This week: Kevin Costner may play ball again; Tim Burton may helm Pirates of The Carribbean 4; David Cronenberg is Bourne again (kind of); we check out the helmer of 28 Months Later and Bill Murray talks Ghostbusters 3 and you can see Prince of Peace – God of War for free.

1. Kevin Costner may make his first ever sequel. Maybe.

Producer Thom Mount has stated that he has a script in development that is a sequel to 1980′s baseball classic Bull Durham. The film was one of Costner’s most successful (critically at least) films and it co-starred Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins.

Mount says that no cast has yet signed on, but there is a slim chance that Costner and company may return. If not, I wouldn’t be surprised if Kurt Russell stars – as he ...
