Late in 2011 we brought you news that two of the smaller studios, Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment, were considering merging. As of today, that merger is officially a reality, with Lionsgate having acquired Summit for a combined sum of $412.5 million.

If you are not one of those TV/movie fans who keeps their eye on the business end of the biz: This basically means that young adult movie franchises The Twilight Saga (owned by Summit) and The Hunger Games (owned by Lionsgate) are now sharing the same roof over their heads, alongside Mad Men‘s Don Draper.

Check out a few snippets from the official press release about the merger:

Don Draper’s return to television is finally on the horizon. While making an appearance on comedian Doug Benson’s podcast: Doug Loves Movies, actor Jon Hamm delivered the date we’ll finally see Mad Men season 5.

According to Hamm, we can all gather round the television and enjoy the heavy drinking and smoking antics of Madison Avenue’s finest starting in late March on AMC.

Due to some rather intense contract negotiations between series creator Matthew Weiner and AMC, it’s been well over a year since Mad Men last graced the airwaves. In fact, by the time season 5 bows in March, it will have been more than 16 months without any worthwhile ’60s stylings on television – though The Playboy Club and Pan Am certainly gave it the old college try.

After already leaving an indelible mark on the television world with his award-winning and oft-copied series Mad Men, the show’s creator Matthew Weiner admits he has been thinking about the future of Donald Draper and how the show will end its storied run.

While chatting with Jeff Garlin (Curb Your Enthusiasm) in front of a live audience for Jeff Garlin in Conversation With… the writer and producer spoke frankly about a multitude of topics, but, as is likely always the case, Weiner was mostly asked about his AMC program Mad Men. Perhaps most surprisingly is the way he addressed his approach to the inevitable finale of everyone’s favorite period drama.

When Jane Lynch took the stage for The 63rd Emmy Awards after a chaotic opening number, one should have known that the night will be filled with some surprising winners being announced.

After Modern Family practically swept the awards in comedy, with wins in all but two categories, it was on to reality/variety. Once again, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart took home the coveted awards in this category, but not without The Amazing Race and Saturday Night Live each picking up a single award.

A turn to television’s drama series brought about three of the most deserved wins at this year’s awards, with Kyle Chandler winning Friday Night Lights, Margo Martindale winning for Justified and Peter Dinklage winning for Game of Thrones.
After a rather tumultuous and lengthy off season, AMC’s first-born hit Mad Men looks like it’s getting back in shape for the eagerly anticipated fifth season – with news that series star Jon Hamm will continue to portray libidinous ad-man Don Draper for another three years.

Coming soon after the announcement that he would take a spin in the director’s chair for the season 5 premiere, Hamm has added a year to his pre-existing two-year contract – with a considerable raise attached. The new deal puts to rest any fears that Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce would undergo a name change, and makes Hamm one of the highest paid actors on a cable series.

The fifth season of AMC’s Mad Men has had a hard time finding its way back to the airwaves. Contract negotiations between show creator Matthew Weiner, AMC TV and Lionsgate hit a snag earlier this year, but after a couple of setbacks, we finally got confirmation that Mad Men seasons 5&6 were firmly locked down.

Today TV Line and Deadline are reporting that not only will Mad Men season 5 be coming at us in March of 2012, but that Donald Draper himself, show star Jon Hamm, is going to be directing the episode.

According to Hamm, seeing his co-star John Slattery (who plays Roger Sterling) direct an episode of the show made him want to step up to the challenge himself.
Lionsgate, the production company that films Mad Men for AMC, has reached an agreement with streaming video provider Netflix. All current episodes of the acclaimed drama will appear on the service starting in July.

Mad Men fans were ecstatic to hear the news that the series had been renewed for seasons five and six. Lionsgate, AMC and creator Matthew Weiner had been circling the negotiation table for months over matters of money and creative control.
If the existence of the Internet proves anything, it is that one person’s business immediately becomes everyone else’s business as well. And when your business is running Mad Men – one of the most successful, and lauded shows on television – you better believe everyone and his or her Twitter account has an opinion.

Matthew Weiner is learning this lesson through his ongoing negotiations with AMC, which have become just short of a spectacle, given some details pertaining to Weiner’s personal deal, and the stipulations the network has given in order for Mad Men to continue into its fifth season (and beyond).

Upon hearing the news that Mad Men would be delayed until the 2012 season, fans and professionals alike began to express their opinions regarding the deliberations.
After months of negotiations, AMC and Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner have come to an agreement about the future of Don Draper and company. Fans of the series now have two additional seasons of Mad Men to look forward to, as the show has officially been renewed for a fifth and sixth season.

Problems between Weiner and AMC originally arose when the network demanded that Mad Men be restructured for… advertising related reasons. How’s that for irony?

Deadline reported that AMC/Lionsgate wanted Weiner to cut down the running time of each individual Mad Men episode by two minutes, so that more commercials can be shown. To further increase the profitability of the show, studio heads also wanted “two regular cast members” to be cut from the show per season.
The last week of March is one of the year’s best in DVD and Blu-ray releases. Natalie Portman’s award-winning performance and Disney’s 50th animated feature film hit home video, as well as a pair of fantastic Blu-ray re-releases.

Although some controversy between Natalie Portman and her dance double has overshadowed the home video release of Black Swan, it could also be considered extra publicity. Disney’s latest blockbuster, Tangled, hits shelves as well as Fair Game and All Good Things, a pair of small films that might grab a few new looks.

The following titles can now be found on DVD and Blu-ray:

[Update: Mad Men season 5 has been confirmed.]

Fans of AMC’s hit drama Mad Men have been waiting with bated breath for word on when the production would begin on season 5.

In our last update, show star (and knockout redhead) Christina Hendricks still didn’t know about the fate of Mad Men season 5, though AMC Senior Vice President Joel Stillerman promised fans awhile back that ever-expanding cable network would not be losing one of its flagship series.

For those not familiar with the behind-the-scenes drama with TV’s most acclaimed drama: Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner was negotiating a renewal deal with the show’s producer, Lionsgate TV, while Lionsgate TV was busy negotiating a renewal deal with AMC. In the shifting landscape of television, where ratings and revenue are in the midst of a serious paradigm shift, smart renegotiation ...

Click to continue reading Deal Almost Done For ‘Mad Men’ Season 5 [Updated]

[UPDATE: Deal is close to being done for Mad Men Season 5]

Despite verbal commitments from AMC executives, Mad Men still hasn’t been renewed for a fifth season. Licensing and renewal deals have stagnated for so long that some, including star Christina Hendricks, worry about the show making its usual summer debut.

The word around Hollywood seems to indicate that a fifth season of Mad Men is inevitable. What’s keeping the renewal from happening are two different agreements that have yet to be made: show creator and executive producer Matthew Weiner hasn’t renewed with Lionsgate TV, and Lionsgate hasn’t renewed with AMC. Though there’s no official word from either party, it’s reasonable to assume that money is the prime negotiating point.

For 68 years, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has been celebrating their favorites in film and television with the Golden Globe Awards.

Once again, the multifaceted and generally hilarious Ricky Gervais will be serving as host of tonight’s gala. While those in attendance will be filled with anticipation about whether or not they will take home the award in their chosen category, viewers at home will be anxiously waiting to see how far Gervais will push the comedic envelope with his monologue and numerous ad-libs throughout the night.

With 25 separate categories having to fit within tonight’s given time slot, something tells me that Gervais will be moving things along at a swift pace – all while sipping from his iconic glass a beer that always remains not-so-hidden beneath his podium.

It looks like AMC could use a little Don Draper-style negotiation savvy of its own. The cable channel’s highest profile show Mad Men still hasn’t been renewed for a fifth season, but Senior Vice President Joel Stillerman told reports that a return to 1960s Manhattan is being planned.

The hold-up is on multiple fronts: neither production house Lionsgate TV nor showrunner Matthew Weiner have agreed to continue their work on Mad Men. Stillerman told reporters at a TCA panel for The Killing that while AMC plans for the series to continue, he didn’t know when that would happen. When a Deadline Hollywood correspondent asked about the state of Mad Men, AMC president and general manager Charlie Collier said, “We’re negotiating, don’t know much more than that yet.”

The Screen Actors Guild announced nominations for the 17th annual SAG Awards this morning.

The nominees reaffirmed many of the front-runners for possible Academy Award nominations.

In the leading female actor category, Natalie Portman earned a rightful nomination for her work in Black Swan, but she’ll be running against stiff competition from Nicole Kidman in Rabbit Hole, along with many other notable actresses. In the leading male actor category, Jeff Bridges was recognized for his take on the iconic character of Rooster Cogburn in True Grit, but he’ll face strong competition from young actors Jesse Eisenberg in The Social Network and James Franco in 127 Hours.

Of the nominated films, David O. Russel’s The Fighter led the way with four total nominations.
Celebrities Josh Duhamel, Katie Holmes, and Blair Underwood dragged themselves from the comfort of their beds early this morning to announce the nominations for this year’s other big cinematic awards, the Golden Globes.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has unveiled its nominations for the 68th annual Golden Globes and, like any year’s crop of nominees, there are a few surprise choices, some unexpected snubs, and a number of highly anticipated selections.

The American Film Institute released its list of the Top 10 films and TV programs of 2010. Check out the list and chime in with your feedback.

The American Film Institute announced its list of the Top 10 movies of 2010 today, giving film fans a likely glimpse at many of the movies in contention for the Best Picture Oscar at this year’s Academy Awards.

AFI’s Top 10 films represent a wide range of styles, from the brainy big budget action film Inception and the animated Toy Story 3 to the low-budget indie films Winter’s Bone and The Kids Are All Right.

Mel Gibson's performance in 'The Beaver' has gotten Oscar buzz and he is rumored to be up for a guest stint on 'Mad Men.' Is the troubled actor on his way to a comeback?

Mel Gibson has not had a good year, no matter how you look at it. He was hit with allegations of physical abuse from his now ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva earlier this year; a recording of Gibson’s obscenity and sexual/racial epithet-filled phone conversation with Grigorieva was later leaked to the press; and the actor’s anti-Semitic rant from 2006 has now been brought back into the limelight as a result of all this new controversy.

Gibson was set to make his return to acting this year with The Beaver, a satirical film in which he plays a businessman who finds peace in life by wearing a beaver puppet on his hand. Jodie Foster directed the feature, which has yet to secure a theatrical release date.

The 62nd Primetime Emmys have come and gone, and once again the show offered laughs, star power and the occasional stretches of boredom.

In this post-Emmys post, we’ll take a look back at the celebration of TV’s most beloved shows, miniseries and specials, with a specific focus on who won, what the ratings were, and how the show went in general. Consider this your one-stop haven for any and all things that have to do with the 2010 Emmys.

First, lets talk about how the show went. When discussing the high and low points of any awards show, the first thing that people usually zero in on is the host. The 2009 Emmys were famously hosted by the witty and dapper Neil Patrick Harris, who actually managed to elevate the proceedings and return the Emmys to ...

Click to continue reading 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards Recap & Winners

AMC has announced that the fourth season of its critically lauded series Mad Men will begin airing on July 25 this year. Meanwhile, if show creator Matthew Weiner has his way, the 1960s-set TV drama will run no longer than six seasons.
