Fox Cancels ‘Lie To Me,’ ‘Human Target,’ ‘Breaking In’ & More

Just weeks before Fox was set to preview their new fall line-up, the network has all-but cleaned house in regards to its struggling television series – and has canceled Lie To Me, Human Target, Traffic Light, Breaking In and The Chicago Code.

Even though Lie To Me and Human Target were long shots in terms of renewal, the possibility for their return was still present as Fox is known to give reprieves in certain circumstances. Unfortunately (or fortunately), it appears that Fringe took up Fox’s sole “second-chance” slot – thanks to a large fan uprising once the possibility of cancelation arose.

Fox President Talks ‘Fringe,’ ‘Lie To Me’ & ‘Human Target’ Renewals

For months, fans of Fringe, Human Target and Lie to Me have been wondering whether or not their favorite series will return next fall.

With pilot season underway, television networks are examining their current television line-up and determining which shows will stay and which will be replaced by new series endeavors.

Considering Fox is one of the most cancellation-friendly networks with numerous under-performing fan-favorite series, Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly stepped in to talk about the likelihood of Fringe, Lie to Me and Human Target returning for another season.

Most recently, Fringe made the move to Friday night. While the ratings have been slipping since its time-slot premiere, Reilly still seems pleased with its performance:

‘Lie To Me’ Season 3 Ends On A High Note

Last night, FOX’s cult series Lie To Me completed is third season with “Killer App” an episode involving a Facebook-esque plot that brought a darker tone (and murder) to some of Aaron Sorkin’s story elements from The Social Network.

While much of Lie To Me can be considered a proverbial stage for Tim Roth to show off his talents as one of television’s most skilled thespians, the season 3 finale took a step back from Roth’s scene-stealing portrayal of Dr. Cal Lightman and allowed co-star Kelli Williams to shine as Dr. Gillian Foster.

Despite Williams continuously adding rich depth to her character – and to an extent Roth’s character – she’s rarely had the opportunity to take the lead, both in character performance and storyline focus. Highlighting elements from Foster’s past, while providing wonderful backstory ...

2011 People’s Choice Awards Winners

For 37 years, the People’s Choice Awards has been celebrating the fan favorites in film, television and music. In preparation for tonight’s awards ceremony, over 35 million votes were cast by the American public in hopes that their favorite film, television series, actor or musician will take home this coveted award.

For the second year in a row, the multifaceted Queen Latifah will be serving as host of this fanatical gala. With over 43 separate categories having to fit within the given timeslot, something tells me that Queen Latifah is going to be forced to move things along at a swift pace in order to fit each category within the 2-hour time-limit.

Fox Cuts 9 Episodes from ‘Lie to Me’ Season 3; Show Not Canceled (Yet)

Fans of Lie to Me will be disappointed to learn that Fox has decided not to pick up a back-nine order for the show – limiting the third season to only 13 episodes.

Fox made the decision to not order more episodes of the well-received investigation procedural, which stars Academy Award-nominee Tim Roth, due to the incoming show The Chicago Code (yet another police procedural).

However, there is a (slight) silver lining to Fox’s decision. According to Deadline, the move to not pick up the back-nine of Lie to Me does not mean that the network is canceling the series – at least, not yet. It also doesn’t mean that Lie to Me to me is ...

Lie To Me: Summer Return Review & Discussion

It’s been six months since the last new episode of Lie to Me aired on television. Thankfully, after all that wait, its triumphant return is upon us. Not only that, but since Fox decided to renew the series for one more season, fans won’t have to watch while being depressed that these are the final moments of the brilliant Tim Roth on American television.

Now that it’s summer time, viewers have to decide whether to spend time outside or handle the onslaught of terrible programming thrown together by networks trying to burn through unaired episodes of canceled television series. Luckily, it appears that Fox is actually putting some effort into their summer programming – taking cues from cable television, no doubt.

FOX Picks Up Shawn Ryan’s ‘Ridealong’

It has been a little over a year since Shawn Ryan’s hit cop drama The Shield ended, but it would appear that Ryan just can’t get enough of the boys in blue as his new television pilot, Ridealong, has just been picked up by FOX.

Ridealong is being touted as “a character procedural that follows one of Chicago’s toughest cops as he struggles to clean up the violence and corruption in town.”

Fans of The Shield creator know that Ryan has been serving as the show runner for another hit FOX drama, Lie to Me. Fear not faithful Lie to Me viewers: Ryan will continue his run on the sophomore drama.

While I never could really get into The Shield, I completely understand why people enjoyed it. And since Ryan took over Lie to Me, the show has never been better. Still, ...

Oh Internet, say it ain’t so!

Hulu – my utopia of free TV online – may soon become another run-of-the-buck paid subscription site (see header image)! (Sigh) It was only a matter of time, really…

Broadcasting & Cable brings us this chilling news, which supposedly originated from the mouth of News Corp. Deputy Chairman Chase Carey, who said during the Onscreen Media Summit that:

“It’s time to start getting paid for broadcast content online…I think a free model is a very difficult way to capture the value of our content. I think what we need to do is deliver that content to consumers in a way where they will appreciate the value. Hulu concurs with that, it needs to evolve to have a meaningful subscription model as part of its business.”

An Expert Takes On ‘Lie to Me’

Ever since FOX premiered Lie to Me last season, I’ve been intrigued by Tim Roth’s character, Dr. Cal Lightman. In the show, his talent is simple: he studies micro-expressions & body language to determine if someone is being deceptive. Still, even though it sounds so straight forward and plausible, it does seem a tad bit fantastical. Do I really have a micro-expression?

Shortly after the premiere, I was excited to read that Roth’s character is loosely based on life of psychologist, Paul Ekman. Still, loosely based doesn’t exactly mean that it’s true. Wes Craven has said that A Nightmare on Elm Sreet is “loosely based” on real events and since I’ve yet to meet any gloved gentlemen my dream, I’m still skeptical.

I must not be the only one who’s curious (and too lazy) to read any of Paul ...
