2011 Razzies Shortlist: The Worst Films and Performances of 2010

As the ball dropped in Times Square and people everywhere sang inebriated versions of “Auld Lang Syne”, it marked the end of a lukewarm movie year. With 557 movies released in 2010, some of them were truly good and others were excruciatingly bad. People could argue all day about what makes a movie truly bad, but thankfully we have the 31^st annual Golden Raspberry Awards to help us sort the chaff from the wheat.

Although the official list of nominees won’t release until January 24^th, the L.A. Times Award Tracker blog has released the shortlist of nominees for the coveted “Razzie” or Golden Raspberry Award.

The categories this year are pretty much the same as last year – Worst Screenplay, Worst Director, Worst Supporting Actor/Actress, Worst ...

DVD/Blu-ray Breakdown: May 11, 2010

Last week’s home video releases were unimpressive (apart from Saving Private Ryan, one of the best Blu-rays I’ve ever seen). This week in the Breakdown we’ve got some goodies, both old and new. From parodies to a dark and gloomy Mel Gibson, there is a bit of everything.

But, as usual of late, the new releases are weak and we must rely again on Blu-ray transfers to satisfy our weekly trip to the store. In fact, the new releases totaled an 8.5 out of a possible 15 in Screen Rant reviews.

A handful of Blu-ray two-packs come out this week, including a Clive Owen thrill pack containing Inside Man and Children of Men. So if you want your discounted double feature packages, this should be a good one for you. But you ...

While we do have a Legion review where you can leave comments, we’ve set up this as a place where you can discuss spoilers about the movie without concerns about ruining it for folks who haven’t seen it yet. For those who’ve seen Legion, I’m sure there’s plenty you’ll want to talk about.

If you’re posting comments here, assume that anyone in the conversation has seen the movie – if you haven’t seen the movie, I would recommend you don’t read the comments here until you have.

Short version: Legion is basically a schlocky B-movie – with a very ridiculous premise.

I knew going in that Legion was going to be… odd. A movie where an angel comes to earth, is wearing some sort of electronic shock collar and uses machine guns was bound to be a bit, shall we say, unconventional.

Paul Bettany stars as the archangel Michael, who suddenly appears on Earth on December 23rd in Los Angeles. His shock collar (for lack of a better term, I don’t know what its function was) falls off his neck and he summarily cuts off his angelic wings (yes, it hurt).

Are you feeling starved for a little faith-based action and adventure? Well then, you’ve come to the right place!

Today we have some clips from upcoming films The Book of Eli and Legion – two films which are based in Christian mythology and/or faith but have (surprisingly enough) courted very little controversy from the religious sector thus far. Of course, both films have also taken enough liberties (angels with machine guns anyone?) to keep them off the poo-poo lists of both religious groups and movie lovers alike. For now, at least…

New ‘Legion’ Clip and TV Spot

Legion is an upcoming action/supernatural horror film starring Paul Bettany and Dennis Quaid. The film centers around a diner full of people who attempt to fight off an apocalyptic army of angels sent by God to destroy humanity. That’s a pretty bold plot and from what we’ve seen so far it looks pretty badass.

Today we have a couple of more looks at Legion by way of a new clip, courtesy of Yahoo (via Coming Soon), and the first TV spot courtesy of Shock Till You Drop.

The clip is the more interesting of the two, featuring a kick-ass fight between Bettany and no-messing angel Gabriel, played by Kevin Durand. The TV spot is standard fare but worth a look anyway for those anticipating the movie.

Guess what sci-fi/action/thriller fans? We’ve got a double dose of awesome for you today. That’s right, we’re bringing not one, but two clips for you to geek out over. No thanks needed, it’s our pleasure to serve.

The first clip comes from the Paul Bettany and Dennis Quaid film, Legion. Priest Updates: First Look At Characters & More!

For those of you looking forward to the upcoming Paul Bettany starrer, Legion, you’ll definitely be excited for his next partnership with Legion director Scott Stewart on a movie called Priest.

There’ve been quite a few announcements about Priest recently, starting with the announcement and first look at the Priest poster from the Legion panel at San Diego Comic-Con last month. This week, we also found out that Karl Urban has joined the cast as the evil vampire named Black Hat and earlier, Maggie Q signed on as a warrior priestess who joins Bettany’s character on his mission.

That’s not all though. This week, True Blood’s Stephen Moyer and 90210’s Lily Collins were also announced as part of the cast this week. Moyer will play Bettany’s brother in the film and Collins will play his ...

Angels Love Weapons in Red Band ‘Legion’ Trailer

At San Diego Comic-Con, Sony Pictures presented the attendees in Hall H with the very first look at their upcoming fantasy thriller, Legion. In the footage we got to see a ton of R-rated action combined with some creepy horror scenes, and a side of warrior angels.

What we saw looked interesting and its star, the talented Paul Bettany, looked amazing. Today, we finally have for you the full red band trailer for Legion which shows you some of what we saw in San Diego.

Comic-Con: ‘Legion’ Brings Angels With Machine Guns

At yesterday’s panel for Sony Pictures Entertainment, we got a look at very interesting and unique films: Legion and District 9.

From the moment I stepped into the convention center on Wednesday, Legion was something I really wanted to learn more about.

I hadn’t heard much about it up until this week but the following image of its leading actor in costume had me intrigued:
