When it comes to new regulars and guest stars on upcoming television shows, we’ve got a lot of news to report this week – including casting updates for Game of Thrones, Southland, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Terra Nova, and American Horror Story.

Let’s get started.

Game of Thrones

HBO’s well-received fantasy epic is currently filming its second season. Major book characters Stannis, Davos, Melisandre, Brienne and Margaery have already been cast, but new info out of the UK indicates that two more have been added.

B. D. Wong Leaving ‘Law & Order: SVU’ For ‘Awake’

Things don’t look good for NBC’s leading primetime drama, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. In addition to losing stars Christopher Meloni and (possibly) Mariska Hargitay, longtime series regular B. D. Wong will not return for the upcoming thirteenth season.

Instead, he’ll be playing a psychiatrist (go figure) on Awake, NBC’s midseason action/sci-fi starring Harry Potter‘s Jason Isaacs. Awake follows a policeman who shifts between alternate realities, and has been compared to 2010′s blockbuster mindbender Inception. Initial critical reactions are positive.

Wong announced the move on Twitter on Sunday night. There had been some speculation that due to Awake‘s midseason status, Wong would reprise his role as Dr. Huang for at least part of the new season, as co-star Hargitay is doing with Detective Benson. Ice-T Renews ‘Law & Order: SVU’ Contract For Two More Years

Longtime Law & Order: Special Victims Unit regular Ice-T has signed on for another two years as Detective Tutuola. Does this mean that SVU will continue once Christopher Meloni and Mariska Hargitay are gone?

Tracy “Ice-T” Marrow has played Fin Tutuola on Special Victims Unit for eleven years, joining the cast in Season 2, making him one of the series’ longest continuing cast members. Last month it was announced Christopher Meloni, who has played Detective Stabler since the series began, will not return for Season 13. Mariska Hargitay will only play Detective Benson for half of the new season, and may not return next year.

While the renewal of Ice-T’s contract doesn’t mean that the show will continue for two more years, it certainly implies that NBC-Universal would like it to. After USA airs the ...

Christopher Meloni Leaving ‘Law & Order: SVU’ This Fall

Half of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit‘s dynamic duo will not be returning when the thirteenth season starts this fall. Christopher Meloni, famous as NYPD detective Elliot Stabler, has not renewed his contract with NBC.

Meloni has been in extended contract talks with the network for some time. According to TV Line (who did not reveal their source) the talks have broken down, and Law & Order creator Dick Wolf is actively searching for a new male lead.

The actor has played Elliot Stabler for twelve seasons, and is one of only four actors who has been with the show for its entire run up until now. The other three remaining original cast members, Mariska Hargitay, Richard Belzer and Law and Order veteran Dann Florek, will all return in the fall, though Hargitay ...

2011 People’s Choice Awards Winners

For 37 years, the People’s Choice Awards has been celebrating the fan favorites in film, television and music. In preparation for tonight’s awards ceremony, over 35 million votes were cast by the American public in hopes that their favorite film, television series, actor or musician will take home this coveted award.

For the second year in a row, the multifaceted Queen Latifah will be serving as host of this fanatical gala. With over 43 separate categories having to fit within the given timeslot, something tells me that Queen Latifah is going to be forced to move things along at a swift pace in order to fit each category within the 2-hour time-limit.

Jeremy Irons Comes to Law & Order: Special Victims Unit

There are very few notches missing on legendary screen actor Jeremy Irons’ belt. Yet the Oscar, Emmy, Golden Globe, SAG and Tony-winning actor has yet to make his first appearance on episodic network television in America. That will change in early 2011 when the always-proper British star of film and stage tackles the small screen with a guest starring role on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

The episode featuring Jeremy Irons – titled Mask – will be filmed later this month.

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit executive producers Ted Kotcheff, Neal Baer and Peter Jankowski are all admittedly “elated” to welcome the classically trained actor to the long-running NBC drama. Baer tells The New York Daily News:

‘Law & Order: SVU’ Showrunner Departing For CBS

Veteran Law & Order: SVU executive producer/showrunner Neal Baer is abandoning ship after eleven seasons behind the scenes of the popular NBC drama.

All told, Baer wore the colors of the peacock network for sixteen years, five of which were spent at another NBC mainstay, ER.

Following his scheduled June 1st departure, Baer heads to CBS Television Studios, where he has reportedly signed a lucrative three-year deal.

As Baer told Daily Variety:

“After more than a decade on ‘SVU,’ I felt it was time to take a breath and say, ‘What’s next?’ And those people who were there for me at the very beginning said, ‘We’re next,’”

NBC’s loss is truly a gain for CBS, a network eager to get back to business – and away from rampant, willy-nilly reality TV programming – particularly with regard to ...

Weekly TV Wrap Up – July 2nd 2009

It’s Thursday. That means another round of news from the TV landscape. This week, I’ve got some conjecture and observations with the occasional possible SPOILER in place.

There are some new shows coming up this weekend, some Dollhouse noise, Law and Order cast updates, Dr. Who tidbits and observations or questions about Life On Mars, ER and other shows. It’s been an interesting week indeed. Today I bring some DVD news about Star Trek: TOS, Pushing Daisies, Ugly Betty, Breaking Bad and Friday Night Lights. It’s all good!

I’ve also have a couple of bits of business news about Disney and its slow, creeping take over of the entertainment world!

REMINDER: Don’t forget, Friday night on The Sci-Fi Channel: Stargate Continuum. It’s a great movie. Vic and I saw it last year with the cast of the show. There was a great time had by all.

Due to technical difficulties beyond my control, the digital dog ate my homework. Or, I had to write this article twice! The digital dog just sounds more light-hearted than what the second line implies. Enough about my woes with technological gremlins.

There wasn’t a ton of news to report or snark on this week, so I had to dig up enough to make this yet another interesting read. Well, at least I think it is! I do have a few snippets that might be spoilers for The Office (Guest appearance) and Lost (Possible finale shoot notes).

All kinds of goodies took place this last week. Let’s get on with the tidbits of TV!

1. Bruce’s Public Service Announcement: Be aware that the season premiere of season 4.5 (Is that just not the most ridiculous thing ever?) of Battlestar Galactica that is airing this Friday on January 16th will run over by 3 1/2 minutes. That means you need to make the appropriate changes to whatever recording device you may employ, if that is indeed what you are doing. Me, I’m gonna be there live! Despite in-laws crawling all over my place, they’ve been warned. Back off when my show comes on.
