Christopher Meloni Leaving ‘Law & Order: SVU’ This Fall

Half of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit‘s dynamic duo will not be returning when the thirteenth season starts this fall. Christopher Meloni, famous as NYPD detective Elliot Stabler, has not renewed his contract with NBC.

Meloni has been in extended contract talks with the network for some time. According to TV Line (who did not reveal their source) the talks have broken down, and Law & Order creator Dick Wolf is actively searching for a new male lead.

The actor has played Elliot Stabler for twelve seasons, and is one of only four actors who has been with the show for its entire run up until now. The other three remaining original cast members, Mariska Hargitay, Richard Belzer and Law and Order veteran Dann Florek, will all return in the fall, though Hargitay ...

NBC Unveils 2010/2011 Primetime Lineup

This morning, NBC held their annual upfront event where they announced their new fall line-up. With almost all of their freshman programming being canceled, returning shows under-performing and late year’s famous late-night debacle, all eyes were on NBC to see what, if anything, they could do to save their network.

In total, NBC has 13 new series coming airing this fall – 7 dramas, 5 comedies and an alternative (reality) series. Included in the line-up are a new spy drama from J.J. Abrams (Undercovers), a new police drama from Jerry Bruckheimer (Chase), a legal drama from David E. Kelly staring Kathy Bates (Harry’s Laws) and a new couples comedy from Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer (Friends With Benefits).

It’s that time of the year when we must once again bid adieu, albeit temporarily (except for Lost, which is gone forever), to our favorite television shows. Over the next four weeks, over 60 shows will be on hiatus until this fall.

While that means your summer viewing schedule will be completely open, you better get your DVR’s ready, because the month of May is going test your television watching ability.

Smallville Ratings Are Improving: Best In A Year

Even though Smallville has been stuck in the death slot of Friday nights, (thanks, CW), the ratings for the Tom Welling-starring fantasy series are improving.

Now admittedly Smallville is not capturing 8 million viewers like NBC’s Law & Order or 7.9 million viewers like Ghost Whisperer on Friday nights, but it is picking up.

Smallville drew in 2.76 million viewers in overnight numbers from last night. But more importantly, the show won the demographic of adults between 18-34 & men 18-34.

It also hit a new season high and their best performance in these categories in over a year, since September of 2008.

Though the increases are roughly about 8%, something is better than nothing. Matching their best performance from a year ago is also good.

Whether this is from a grassroots effort of word of mouth or people are just catching on ...

Fall 2009 TV: Premiering Tonight – Sept. 25

Ghost Whisperer, Law & Order, Smallville, Dollhouse, Medium & Numb3rs are all returning tonight… and then we have the premiere of a FOX comedy with a retired football player?

Friday hasn’t been this popular for television since ABC was in its hay-day with TGIF and Boy Meets World (Feeny!). With seven hours of new and returning programming stuffed into a three hour block, you’re either going to have to make some tough decisions on what to watch, or be a DVR master.

Let’s take a look at tonight’s lineup.

Law & Order: CI Cast Change Up

USA Network is working to get season number 9 of the Law & Order spin-off, Criminal Intent, but we’re looking at some changes.

Julainne Nicholson has opted to not return. Her possible replacement could be Saffron Burrows (My Own Worst Enemy).

The veterans of the series, Vincent D’Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe, are looking to return in some capacity. Not sure what though.

Law & Order… It just keeps on ticking & ticking. Sometimes that’s good, sometimes it just gets long in the tooth. How do you folks feel about Law & Order:CI? Let us know.

NBC 2009 Fall Premiere Dates Announced

NBC has released the schedule of dates for their fall 2009 / 2010 season.

A pair of new dramas lined up for us are Parenthood & Trauma and some returning shows are Heroes, Law & Order: SVU and Law & Order. Southland survived it’s first season and is returning for a second.

NBC is “proud” to announce that they now have more comedy than any other network. However, they count The Jay Leno Show as part of that comedy lineup.

The following is the important excerpt of the new programming lineup announcement from NBC:

NBC Announces 2009 TV Schedule

Today NBC announced their 2009 Fall and mid-season television schedules. As you will see, there are some new shows, some old shows, and you might notice there are a couple of shows that are missing from the roster.

We’ll touch on the missing shows in a moment – and in the case of some of them, the situation may not be as bad as it looks. Here are the 2009 NBC Fall and mid-season schedules, as they stand today:
