Hollywood is fond of adapting popular video games into movies (despite them often being critical failures and box office disappointments) and it was no surprise that Eidos Interactive’s violent game Kane & Lynch would be getting the big-screen treatment.

With huge stars Bruce Willis and Jaimie Foxx signed on to star in the titular roles and director Patrick Alessandrin (District 13: Ultimatum) in-talks to direct, it seemed that Kane & Lynch was definitely on the way. However, as is often the case, things aren’t that simple, and the project has hit a major roadblock.

24 Frames reports that Kane & Lynch has been delayed – until the film can lock-down a director. The project was set to start shooting next month; however, it appears that the current director, ...

Click to continue reading ‘Kane & Lynch’ Delayed as Director Patrick Alessandrin Exits

Prince of Persia is having a rather poor and disappointing box office performance, only $62 million domestic, proving once again that American audiences are not fond of how Hollywood does video game movies.

I wrote a recent tongue-in-cheek post on why Hollywood is picking the wrong games to adapt. The poor box office numbers and critical responses haven’t stopped Hollywood from continuing to try again and again. If anything, you have to admire their “stick-to-it-ness”.

Nu Image and Millennium announced a while back they would be producing an adaptation of the violent console video game Kane and Lynch and the project got some clout when Bruce Willis and Jamie Foxx were cast as the leads.

Until creative differences got in the way last month, stunt coordinator Simon Crane (Salt, Hancock) was ...

Click to continue reading F.
“Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results”. – Albert Einstein

Mr. Einstein could have very well been talking about Hollywood and all of the video game movies turds it has squeezed out in the past 27 years. Some people incorrectly think the wretched Super Mario Brothers kicked off the video game movie trend in 1993 but actually it started way back in 1984 with the thriller Cloak & Dagger, based off the Atari game, starring a young Henry Thomas (E.T.) and Dabney Coleman.

Regardless of which year we start from, there have been dozens of movies made from video games and, although some have come close (Mortal Kombat, Tomb Raider), NONE have actually been good.
Stunt coordinator Simon Crane is reportedly no longer directing the Kane & Lynch movie. Will Wayne Kramer (Running Scared) be his replacement?

Acclaimed stunt man Simon Crane is reportedly no longer onboard as director of next year’s video game adaptation Kane & Lynch. According to Latino Review, director Wayne Kramer is currently the top candidate to replace him.

During his career as a stunt coordinator, Simon Crane has worked on Hollywood blockbusters ranging from Aliens and Batman to Braveheart and Titantic – all the way up to this summer’s Angelina Jolie thriller, Salt. Crane was set to make his directorial debut with Kane & Lynch, which as of now is still scheduled to begin shooting this August.

However, Lionsgate has dropped Crane from the project due to creative differences and is currently on the lookout for a new filmmaker to come onboard. F.
Foxx teams with Willis in the jailbreak action flick from director Simon Crane. Will this be the movie to break the dreaded "video game adaptation" curse?

Jamie Foxx has signed on to play schizophrenic killer James Lynch in the film adaptation of the video game Kane & Lynch: Dead Men. Bruce Willis, who will play Adam “Kane” Marcus, has been attached to the project since 2008.

The film (which will drop the “Dead Men” from its title) is based on the popular video game from Eidos Interactive. Screenwriter Kyle Ward, who also wrote the upcoming video game adaptation of Uncharted for Sony, leaked Foxx’s casting news on his Twitter account. The post has since been removed, but all of the major outlets have since confirmed the story.

The plot revolves around the titular duo as they’re broken out of prison by mercenaries and essentially coerced into retrieving a “doomsday device” within 72 hours or Kane’s family will be murdered.
Back in the summer of 2008 Screen Rant reported on the fact that John McClane himself, Bruce Willis had attached himself to star in the still up and coming video game adaptation, Kane & Lynch. In case you’re not familiar with it, the game is about a former mercenary (Kane) and a psychopath (Lynch) forced to “work” together. Fast forward (or “flash forward,” to give a hat tip to ABC’s great new TV show) more than a year and we have solid confirmation of Willis’ casting from the producers of Kane & Lynch themselves.

Adrian Askarieh and Daniel Alter recently spoke to the guys over at Collider while at the 2009 Scream Awards where, amongst other video game adaptations, they spoke a little about Kane & Lynch. John McClane from the Die Hard films is probably his trademark role (although some might say it’s David Addison from TV’s Moonlighting) and throughout the last twenty years he has been synonymous with the action genre. That isn’t about to change anytime soon.

Willis has been in discussions to star in no less than three new action films – three new editions to a pending slate that already includes A Couple of Dicks (set to be directed by Kevin Smith) and Kane and Lynch.

The three latest films are serial killer flick Inventory, mobster movie Scarpa and CIA pic Red .

According to The Hollywood Reporter:

“In Inventory, Willis, who is in negotiations for the role, would play a detective on the trail of a murderer.

Hey Guys welome to another Weekend Movie Wrap Up. I know, I know -I’m late, but it’s because of the new site and my time difference here in the UK. However, it’s better late than never!

This week in our video game driven segment we look at :
