Jessica Jones is a Netflix series based on the Marvel character of the same name. The series is part of the expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) that shares continuity with other Marvel series and films. Actress Krysten Ritter plays the titular role with Melissa Rosenberg as the writer and showrunner.
The TV series features Jessica who, as a young girl, figured in an accident with her parents and brother. She was the lone survivor of the car crash and in the process she was exposed to elements that gave her superhuman abilities. She was left in the care of Dorothy Walker (Rebecca De Mornay), whose daughter Trish became her adoptive sister and best friend.
She uses her superpowers for good until she encounters a villain that could control her mind – Kilgrave (David Tennant). The series features her as an adult working as a private investigator in New York City. She is trying to get over the trauma of being mind controlled by Kilgrave during her superhero years. She is haunted by the crimes she had unwillingly committed. She is trying to make up for it by continuing to do good without living the superhero life. She runs her own detective agency to be of help to others.
A case she is hired to investigate leads her back to Kilgrave and seeing him again causes her to struggle with her PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder). She works on another case that leads her to meet Luke Cage (Mike Colter). She discovers that he has a superhuman ability as well, and they work together to finally defeat Kilgrave.
Trish who was a former child actress and currently works as a radio hosts also helps Jessica track Kilgrave and get over her own trauma. The season ended with Luke meeting Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson) who is also part of the series Daredevil and Iron Fist.
Jessica Jones has been renewed for a second season but the events in the first season leads to The Defenders where she works with Luke, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) and Danny Rand (Finn Jones) against the Hand.
