Iron Man’s Mark VII Armor From ‘The Avengers’

One fringe benefit to having Iron Man featured in a Marvel movie (aside from the obvious advantage of having Robert Downey Jr.’s all-encompassing charisma) is that we get to see yet another new Iron Man armor design on the big screen!

Each new upgrade – from the suitcase-compact Mark V to the triangle chest piece Mark VI – has been better than the last, so fans are going to have high expectations for the Iron Man armor(s?) that will be featured in Joss Whedon’s The Avengers.

Creative Differences Are Knocking Directors Out of Marvel Movies

Marvel Studios now has five movies under its belt, with a sixth coming next summer in The Avengers, two confirmed for 2013 and another pair of unannounced films scheduled for 2014. All of these movies exist in a shared universe, taking part in an ongoing continuity with an overarching storyline running congruently in the background.

While seeing movies follow the comic books in this respect makes The Avengers possible, this strategy does also have its downside as we saw most evidently in Iron Man 2. Each movie by Marvel Studios must follow certain guidelines and must include certain characters portrayed in a very specific way, thus restricting the creative freedom of the filmmakers and talent involved.

Paul Bettany’s Voice In For ‘The Avengers’

While the Iron Man films gave rebirth to the career and stardom of Robert Downey Jr. thanks to the oddly perfect casting of him as Tony Stark, they carried supporting casts of big-name talent, one of whom many don’t even realize is in the film.

Paul Bettany (Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World) played a part in Iron Man and Iron Man 2 as the voice of Jarvis, Tony Stark’s Artificially Intelligent computer who helped in the creation of Stark’s Iron Man armored suits. According to Bettany, he’ll again provide the voice of Jarvis in Joss Whedon’s The Avengers next year.

New ‘Avengers’ Banners; Marvel Confirms Alan Silvestri as Composer

Marvel superhero comic book movie fans will have to wait until February 2012 to get their next fix, in the form of Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. However, the next big Marvel cinematic events is (of course) writer/director Joss Whedon’s The Avengers, which should be getting a full-length trailer sometime sooner, rather than later.

However, in the meantime, we have a pair of new Avengers characters banners for you to check out – along with some official confirmation from Marvel that (as was previously reported) composer Alan Silvestri is indeed scoring Whedon’s superhero extravaganza.

Mickey Rourke Really Doesn’t Like ‘Iron Man 2′; Calls Marvel Movies ‘Mindless’

Iron Man 2 (while performing admirably at the box office) is widely considered to be the lesser of the two Iron Man films – in part because the most memorable thing about the villain was his fondness for birds.

New ‘Avengers’ Images: Explosions, Gunfire, & Costumed Heroes

While we’re still waiting for Marvel to unveil an official teaser trailer for The Avengers – and not just a “button,” like the clip that showed at the conclusion of Captain America‘s end credits - the comic book/movie studio has been busy releasing lots of images, character profiles, and more to help heighten anticipation for the (hopefully) game-changing superhero ensemble adventure.

Now we have more still frames from the film, which offer an early look at several big-name characters in action – including S.H.I.E.L.D. head Nick Fury and the catsuit-clad Natalie Rushman/Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow.

It’s expected that a full-blown teaser for The Avengers will be released in the near future, providing a better look at the super-powered protagonists of the film as well as the villains, which include the devious Loki and an army of malevolent extraterrestrial invaders.

‘Iron Man 3′ to Start Filming in North Carolina in June 2012

Iron Man will join the ranks of the superhero team The Avengers next summer, but the Old Shellhead isn’t giving up his role as a solo star just yet. According to new reports, just a month after The Avengers hits theaters, filming is set to begin on Iron Man 3.

The movie, which will be helmed by Shane Black, is reportedly scheduled to begin filming in June of next year in Wilmington, North Carolina. North Carolina beat out Michigan to attract the multimillion dollar production to several sound stages at Wilmington’s Screen Gems Studios.

It’s hard to believe, but we’re officially less than nine months away from The Avengers, perhaps the most ambitious superhero movie in cinematic history, and the one film that will definitively prove whether or not Marvel Studios’ ambitious plans to weave multiple films together over several years will work with mainstream audiences.

With the recent releases of Captain America (see our 4/5 star review) and Thor (see our 3.5/5 star review), there are no more lead-in films to Joss Whedon’s epic superhero team-up. While that may be a bummer to fanboys who have enjoyed one of the better superhero movie summers in recent history, there is some consolation.

Jon Favreau appeared at the Hero Complex Film Festival on Sunday for a Q&A session after a screening of Iron Man and Iron Man 2. As he reminisced about the lighting in a bottle quality of the first film, he was joined on stage by a surprise guest – Tony Stark himself, Robert Downey Jr.

Taking a break from the New Mexico set of The Avengers, Downey Jr. weighed in on how shooting with the other giants in the Marvel movie universe is going so far. After propelling his career forward with Iron Man and helping launch Marvel Studios on the right foot, Jon Favreau came back to helm its sequel. Iron Man 2 again succeeded at the box office but due to a variety of factors, didn’t fare as well among fans and critics. It wasn’t anything like the harsh response X-Men 3 got, but we can safely say that it didn’t meet expectations.

Marvel Studios Viral: Join SHIELD Now!

It started with a mysterious, yet questionable email I received two months ago which explained that Marvel Studios was prepping to announce an S.H.I.E.L.D. event in New York City for spring 2011. The event would bring film stars Samuel L. Jackson (Director Nick Fury), Clark Gregg (Agent Phil Coulson), Cobie Smulders (Agent Maria Hill) and at least four other agents and have them “recruit” new SHIELD members.

This would supposedly occur during filming of The Avengers in April or May and would also continue through San Diego Comic-Con in July. We didn’t jump on it at the time, but things got interesting a while later when our own Roth Cornet attended WonderCon two weekends ago only to experience the beginning of Marvel’s SHIELD viral.

‘Heroes’ Stars To Voice Wolverine & Iron Man Anime

WonderCon is happening and from it, we’re getting the latest superhero news in movies and television. Marvel’s Head of Television Jeph Loeb was on hand at the event and had some special casting news to share with fans yesterday about the America versions of their hit anime Wolverine and Iron Man cartoons.

As it turns out, the two Marvel heroes will be voiced by two literal ‘Heroes.’ That is, two stars of NBC’s done-and-over-it Heroes series.

Adrian Pasdar and Milo Ventimiglia, who played brothers Nathan Petrelli and Peter Petrelli respectively in Heroes‘ four season run will each voice a lead for the anime series. Pasdar will voice Tony Stark/Iron Man and Ventimiglia will play everyone’s favorite adamantium-enhanced mutant, Wolverine.

When Shane Black officially signed up to helm Iron Man 3, it was generally assumed he would be scripting Tony Stark’s third cinematic venture as well. The Lethal Weapon franchise scriber confirmed as much just over three weeks ago, revealing his plans to structure the threequel more along the lines of a Tom Clancy thriller.

Now there’s word that Black will be very much involved in the development of the Iron Man 3 screenplay, but Drew Pearce – who penned the current draft of the script for Marvel’s Runaways movie – will be the fellow who actually writes it.

Potential ‘Iron Man 3′ Directors (Who May Actually Get The Job)

Since it was announced that Jon Favreau is not directing Iron Man 3, you’ve probably seen a lot of lists popping up on sites tossing out this name or that name as a possible candidate to replace Favs. And while those lists are pretty nice in terms of their ambitious hopes, at the same time, a lot of them simply aren’t realistic. (Sorry guys, but James Cameron isn’t likely to bring his Avatar technology over to Marvel Studios for a play date.)

Yesterday afternoon, the surprise news broke that Jon Favreau would not be directing Iron Man 3. Speculation about financial and creative reasons causing the departure aside, it was a shock to fans and possibly a blow to Marvel Studios, who owe their accelerated success thanks to his work on Iron Man and establishing the Marvel cinematic universe.

As we know already, Favreau will still be working with Marvel parent company, Disney Studios, on Magic Kingdom and he’s still in a producer role on The Avengers. But what fans really want to know is why he’s not sticking around to close the Iron Man trilogy. Jon Favreau Not Directing ‘Iron Man 3′ [Updated]

It what may be the most shocking Marvel Studios related news to date, Jon Favreau, the man responsible for bringing the young studio their first worldwide blockbuster and successful franchise, is stepping down from the directorial duties of the third Iron Man film. That’s right, Iron Man 3 will not be directed by Jon Favreau.

Why? There’s no clear cut answer or official word from Favreau himself just yet, but if you piece together some recent events and take into account Marvel’s tight budgeting, you can formulate some viable working theories.
