I can’t believe that it’s now the end of August! Soon the winter blockbusters will be knocking at our door and the next thing you know it’ll be Oscar time again. Where does time go? Is it playing like a re-run somewhere, can you just flick to another dimension to a time where you are still awaiting a fourth Indiana Jones movie? Who knows, but I do know that it’s another Weekend Movie News Wrap up featuring a new aspect: a weekend box office update.

This week:

After our box office round-up we see what George Clooney and Jason Reitman are doing Up in the Air, we find out what former superhero is joining the Toy Story franchise, we look at who might be helming the Poltergeist movie and the Voltron film and what is new on the Inglorious Bastards casting front.

Tarantino Says Mike Myers Is A Bastard

Tarantino Says Mike Myers Is A Bastard

Okay, now that I’ve gotten my anger at The Love Guru off my chest I can get down to reporting some movie news.

Mike Myers has joined the cast of Quentin Tarantino’s Inglorious Bastards. By Mike Myers I mean the actor and comedian - not the Halloween film character, although that would be cool.

Myers is the latest actor to be recruited by Tarantino following Brad Pitt, Eli Roth (when I mention Roth I use the word “actor” loosely) and B.J. Novak, while Simon Pegg and Nastassja Kinski are still in negotiations to join the WWII flick.

Don’t worry, Myers will NOT be playing “Fat Bastard”. The voice of Shrek will portray General Ed Fenech; a British military commander.

Inglorious Bastards Casting Updates

[UPDATE: Simon Pegg will not be joining the cast after all.]

Brad Pitt is a bastard.

Nope, I’m not starting up a Jennifer Aniston fansite, I’m letting you know that it is now official that Pitt has signed on to play Aldo Raines in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglorious Bastards.

This isn’t exactly big news as we’ve been talking about it for weeks, but Mr Pitt has now put his signature on the dotted line.

Also signing up to the WWII flick is Hostel director Eli Roth. Roth who will play Sgt. Donnie Donowitz had a small role in QT’s Grindhouse segment Death Proof, and the Pulp Fiction director also produced both Hostel films, so the two guys are obviously buddies.

Universal Is Inglorious

Universal Is Inglorious

After on-again, off-again negogiations with various studios (including Miramax and Paramount), it seems that Quentin Tarantino’s WWII epic Inglorious Bastards has finally found a home: Universal Pictures.

I’m still surprised this is actually moving forward. I mean…how many times has Tarantino talked up a project non-stop about it being his next film and then (like some hyper-active kid with A.D.D.) tosses it asside for another one altogether.

Looks Like Inglorious Bastards Is A Reality

Looks Like Inglorious Bastards Is A Reality

It would appear that Quentin Tarantino is leaving the comfort of his Weinstein home. The chinned one has begun shopping his script for Inglorious Bastards (a WWII movie) around Hollywood - the first time Tarantino has tried to sell his product to a major studio since he hit the big time with Reservoir Dogs way back in 1992.

Hot on the heals of this news comes word that Brad Pitt is interested in a role in Tarantino’s new feature.

Brad’s not the only one who has been mentioned for a part in the film - over the years everyone from Sylvester Stallone to Adam Sandler have been mooted for a role- but Pitt’s name is the first to seem concrete.
