Spielberg Talks ‘Jurassic Park 4,’ ‘Indiana Jones 5,’ & ‘Crystal Skull’

Steven Spielberg’s The Adventures of Tintin doesn’t arrive stateside until Christmas, but it’s already out in Europe and enjoying rave reviews. Indeed, many are calling it a return to form for Spielberg after the disappointing (to say the least) Indiana Jones 4.

Recently, while promoting Tintin, Spielberg also discussed the upcoming Jurassic Park 4 and Indiana Jones 5 – as well as the widely-criticized Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

On the status of Jurassic Park the fourth – courtesy of Empire – Spielberg said:

“The screenplay is being written right now by Mark Protosevich. I’m hoping that will come out in the next couple of years. We have a good story. ...

Spielberg & Harrison Ford Talk ‘Indiana Jones 5′, CGI & More

Last night at at a theatre in downtown Los Angeles (sprinkled with the likes of Damon Lindelof and Simon Pegg) the LA Times Hero Complex hosted a thirtieth anniversary screening of director Steven Spielberg’s beloved homage to the adventure serials of the 1930s – Raiders of the Lost Ark.

The director was on hand for a conversation with Geoff Boucher following the screening, in which he looked back at the creation of what has become one of our culture’s most iconic characters — Indiana Jones. Mid-talk, the two were joined by none other than Indy himself, Harrison Ford, who offered his own insights about Raiders as well as what may be in store for the future of the franchise.

With Bad Teacher Cameron Diaz hoped to add to the list of bizarre onscreen teachers we’ve seen over the past few decades. While it’s fun to see bad people hold positions typically reserved for good-natured role models, we prefer characters whose influence is a little more positive. So while Diaz is in Home Room smashing kids’ faces in with rubber balls, we will be in Room 101 with our favorite movie teachers, whose classes we wish we could enroll in next fall.

Interview: Legendary Movie Stuntman Vic Armstrong (Part 1)

Vic Armstrong is something of a movie legend. You may not know the name, but you’ve undoubtedly seen his work. Armstrong started out as a movie stuntman, working on the Gregory Peck film Arabesqe, before he began his longstanding association with the James Bond franchise in You Only Live Twice (he was the first ninja down the rope into Blofeld’s volcanic lair). He also doubled for Christopher Reeve in Richard Donner’s Superman before moving on to become a stunt co-ordinator and then second unit director. Armstrong is also a director in his own right, with an episode of The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles and the Dolph Lundgren film Joshua Tree to his credit.

Joe Johnston Talks ‘Indiana Jones’ Inspiration for ‘Captain America’

Raiders of the Lost Ark is one of those perfect films of the 1980s. Truly, if you changed even a single element of the film, it wouldn’t be as good – as perfect – as it already is. (Thankfully, George Lucas and Steven Spielberg have yet to craft a truly CGI-saturated special edition…for now.)

So it makes a whole lot of sense that Marvel Entertainment would want to emulate the perfection of Raiders for its film about an action hero in the 1940s pitted against the Nazis – otherwise known as Captain America: The First Avenger.

Oh YouTube, what would we do without you? From your funny cat videos to beloved toy commercials from the 1980s, you give us everything we need to waste away hours of our lives every week when we could be doing something far more productive. Of course, YouTube can be a fickle temptress. Sometimes, it just gives you pure garbage and tries to pass it off as entertainment.

Most of the time, these laughably bad Internet videos come from well-intentioned but dreadfully unfunny comedians who are trying to hit it big with a goofy parody sketch. Other times, however, the sketch finds the perfect balance of absurdist humor, pop culture savvy, and dead-on casting to make it truly worthwhile. Recently, we were lucky enough to come across one of the latter.

The Indiana Jones Saga Returning to Theaters in 3D

After news broke last month that George Lucas and Lucasfilm would be up-converting the Star Wars Saga for a 3D re-release, it was only a matter of time before the same thing was done to the beloved Indiana Jones Saga. I can practically feel Indy’s whip cracking me in the face through the theater screen already!

According to Blue Sky Disney, Lucasfilm will be announcing their intentions to release the old-fashioned adventure series next month, starting with the first and best Indiana Jones film, Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Ever since Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull banked over $700 million at the worldwide box office there have been rumblings of a fifth Indiana Jones adventure. Harrison Ford, George Lucas and Shia LaBeouf have all mentioned that an idea, if nothing else, is out there – but they failed to elaborate on any details.

The inception of this list came while watching Iron Man and the scene where Tony Stark presented the amazingly destructive Jericho Missile. LaBeouf “Dropped the Ball” on Indiana Jones Legacy

In Hollywood, you don’t always get to hear straight talk, but that’s just what reporters heard from Shia LaBeouf this past weekend at the Cannes Film Festival.

While at Cannes promoting Wall Street 2, LaBeouf took some time to address fan criticism over Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and why he believes he “dropped the ball” on the Indiana Jones legacy.

So here’s a top 10 list of movies that would look great, sound great, and benefit from the extensive special features that Blu-ray discs provide. Keep in mind that this list is not in the order of how great each movie is, but rather how much each film would benefit from a Blu-ray upgrade.

Ford, Spielberg & Lucas Decide on ‘Indy 5′ Story

For some, the thought of a new Indiana Jones adventure fills them with dread. However, for some (like myself) it’ll be the return of an old friend.

Well, according to Harrison Ford it would appear that Indy 5 is one step closer to having him cracking his whip once more.

The star has revealed that he, George Lucas and director Steven Spielberg have agreed on an idea for Indy’s fifth adventure and that the ball is now in Lucas’ court to develop the plot.

While in the UK promoting his new film Extraordinary Measures, the iconic action star said the following to the BBC:

“Steven and George and I are sort of agreed on a germ of an idea and we’re seeing what comes of it.”

When Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was released back in 2008 it was met by some disappointment but a massive $786 million worldwide gross. In Hollywood that only means one thing – a sequel, and there have been rumblings of a fifth Indiana Jones adventure since Skull was released. Now, Harrison Ford has spoken again about the film whilst promoting his new movie Extreme Measures (formerly Crowley).

When talking to MTV Ford gave little away, but again made it clear that he was still interested in a new Indy film – if the script interests him. Ford said:

“George is working on an idea, and if it comes to a fruitful stage, all of us are very interested in making another.”

Will Sean Connery Return For Indy 5?

After last year’s critically acclaimed Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Steven Spielberg has been reportedly working on the next installment in the Indiana Jones saga.

Despite the mixed critical reception for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, the film made more than enough money ($786 million worldwide) to warrant immediate talk of a sequel. Up to this point, however, we haven’t heard anything definitive about the movie, besides the usual “we’re working on it” talk.

While in France recently for the Deauville Film Festival, Harrison Ford added to this “maybe yes, maybe no” trend when he spoke with Le Figaro magazine on the possibility of donning the fedora and whip for Indiana Jones 5. According to Ford, it all depends on the script.

Indiana Jones 5 To Hit Screens By 2011?

While the fourth installment of the Indiana Jones franchise may have failed to scratch the adventure itch for most film fans, it was hugely profitable at the box office, making $786 million around the world. In Hollywood terms that sort of money means follow-up, and as we recently told you a story is in development for a fifth film in the Harrison Ford-starring franchise.

The Insider is reporting (via Slash Film) that a new Indiana Jones film will be going into production soon and could hit screens by 2011 – when Harrison Ford is on the cusp of turning 70!
