Steven Spielberg’s The Adventures of Tintin doesn’t arrive stateside until Christmas, but it’s already out in Europe and enjoying rave reviews. Indeed, many are calling it a return to form for Spielberg after the disappointing (to say the least) Indiana Jones 4.

Recently, while promoting Tintin, Spielberg also discussed the upcoming Jurassic Park 4 and Indiana Jones 5 – as well as the widely-criticized Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Last night at at a theatre in downtown Los Angeles (sprinkled with the likes of Damon Lindelof and Simon Pegg) the LA Times Hero Complex hosted a thirtieth anniversary screening of director Steven Spielberg’s beloved homage to the adventure serials of the 1930s – Raiders of the Lost Ark.

The director was on hand for a conversation with Geoff Boucher following the screening, in which he looked back at the creation of what has become one of our culture’s most iconic characters — Indiana Jones. Mid-talk, the two were joined by none other than Indy himself, Harrison Ford, who offered his own insights about Raiders as well as what may be in store for the future of the franchise.

With Bad Teacher Cameron Diaz hoped to add to the list of bizarre onscreen teachers we’ve seen over the past few decades. While it’s fun to see bad people hold positions typically reserved for good-natured role models, we prefer characters whose influence is a little more positive. So while Diaz is in Home Room smashing kids’ faces in with rubber balls, we will be in Room 101 with our favorite movie teachers, whose classes we wish we could enroll in next fall.

Everybody has a different take on what makes a great teacher. Some want a lazy, no-work goofball and others want a motivated and passionate instructor.
Vic Armstrong is something of a movie legend. You may not know the name, but you’ve undoubtedly seen his work. Armstrong started out as a movie stuntman, working on the Gregory Peck film Arabesqe, before he began his longstanding association with the James Bond franchise in You Only Live Twice (he was the first ninja down the rope into Blofeld’s volcanic lair). He also doubled for Christopher Reeve in Richard Donner’s Superman before moving on to become a stunt co-ordinator and then second unit director. Armstrong is also a director in his own right, with an episode of The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles and the Dolph Lundgren film Joshua Tree to his credit.

Over the years Armstrong has worked with many of Hollywood’s greatest; from old school directors like David Lean and Stanley ...

Click to continue reading Interview: Legendary Movie Stuntman Vic Armstrong (Part 1)

Raiders of the Lost Ark is one of those perfect films of the 1980s. Truly, if you changed even a single element of the film, it wouldn’t be as good – as perfect – as it already is. (Thankfully, George Lucas and Steven Spielberg have yet to craft a truly CGI-saturated special edition…for now.)

So it makes a whole lot of sense that Marvel Entertainment would want to emulate the perfection of Raiders for its film about an action hero in the 1940s pitted against the Nazis – otherwise known as Captain America: The First Avenger.

Recently, director Joe Johnston talked to the L.A.
Oh YouTube, what would we do without you? From your funny cat videos to beloved toy commercials from the 1980s, you give us everything we need to waste away hours of our lives every week when we could be doing something far more productive. Of course, YouTube can be a fickle temptress. Sometimes, it just gives you pure garbage and tries to pass it off as entertainment.

Most of the time, these laughably bad Internet videos come from well-intentioned but dreadfully unfunny comedians who are trying to hit it big with a goofy parody sketch. Other times, however, the sketch finds the perfect balance of absurdist humor, pop culture savvy, and dead-on casting to make it truly worthwhile. Recently, we were lucky enough to come across one of the latter.

After news broke last month that George Lucas and Lucasfilm would be up-converting the Star Wars Saga for a 3D re-release, it was only a matter of time before the same thing was done to the beloved Indiana Jones Saga. I can practically feel Indy’s whip cracking me in the face through the theater screen already!

Christopher Nolan’s Inception has been the topic of discussion for over three weeks now. Many are talking about the torturous ending that left audience members gasping and trying to retrace their steps. In hindsight of that awesome moment, I’ve rounded up the troops here at Screen Rant and asked each writer to describe their favorite shared audience movie theater moment.

[This Next Part Contains Inception Ending SPOILERS]

I’ve never experienced a shared moment in the movie theater quite like that last frame of Inception. The entire film captured everybody’s attention, keeping them on the edge of their seats eager for more. The last few minutes gave Inception its emotional core, after an extended action set piece that put most other summer films to shame.

Everyone has a dad but not everyone has a father. Anyone can bring a child into this world, but it takes a true man to be a father. Fathers aren’t always perfect either, which is what makes them so special. They have their flaws just like everyone else – but they try to overcome those flaws for the sake of their children.

Movie fathers, for the most part, are exactly the same way. I’m not talking about the Al Bundy or Peter Griffin buffoon father figures that get laughs by acting un-father-like. I’m talking about the forthright, honest, dependable and yes, sometimes flawed men that have inspired us onscreen to be better fathers in real life.

Toy Story 3 proves that not all third installments in a film series have to be disappointments. Here's our list of 10 great movie 'threequels.'

This weekend marks the release of Toy Story 3, which is already getting rave reviews as a brilliant third installment to a near-flawless franchise. But when you look back at the handful of threequels in movie history, the memories are not quite as bright.

From Batman Forever to Spider-Man 3, there are far more awful third installments of beloved movie franchises than great ones. So, in honor of the hard work from the good folks at Disney/Pixar, we are going in a different direction… Rather than relish in the horrendous examples of failed threequels, we are going to present our 10 favorite third installments of popular franchises.

Some examples are part of a grand saga, while others are the closing chapter of an unforgettable tale. Either way, they ...

Click to continue reading The 10 Best Movie Threequels of All Time

[Update: Producer Frank Marshall labeled this rumor as "completely false"]

Ever since Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull banked over $700 million at the worldwide box office there have been rumblings of a fifth Indiana Jones adventure. Harrison Ford, George Lucas and Shia LaBeouf have all mentioned that an idea, if nothing else, is out there – but they failed to elaborate on any details.

There are many memorable weapons in the history of cinema. We've selected the top 25 movie weapons and put them in order just for you. Commence firing...

There is a long list of awesome weapons in film history, and it’s about time we narrow it down to the top 25 (in our all-knowing, unerring opinion).

The inception of this list came while watching Iron Man and the scene where Tony Stark presented the amazingly destructive Jericho Missile. Then again, maybe it truly began when I bought a replica Hattori Hanzo sword at C2E2 a month ago. Either way, we’ve all been fascinated by the technology filmmakers come up with, and weapons tend to be at the top of amazing innovations that catch the filmgoer’s eye.

I’ve made a compilation video of all the weapons in the style of my previous movie trailers.
In Hollywood, you don’t always get to hear straight talk, but that’s just what reporters heard from Shia LaBeouf this past weekend at the Cannes Film Festival.

While at Cannes promoting Wall Street 2, LaBeouf took some time to address fan criticism over Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and why he believes he “dropped the ball” on the Indiana Jones legacy.

“I feel like I dropped the ball on the legacy that people loved and cherished…You get to monkey-swinging and things like that and you can blame it on the writer and you can blame it on Steven [Spielberg, who directed].
Working in the TV/Movie blog business, there’s one undeniable law you come to accept: Geeks are an obsessive bunch. No matter our own individual degrees of geekdom, at a certain point we’ve all stopped to stare at that other person who was WAY too into something – be it Star Trek or Star Wars or even that sports fanatic whose blood pressure is one scoreboard point away from going critical.

We all know about geek obsession – but what about geek denial? It’s not a topic you hear brought up very often, but geeks have powers of denial just as strong as their obsessive tendencies. And to prove this fact, we here at Screen Rant are prepared to delve into the deep, dark, realm of “Movies and TV Shows That Geeks Pretend Don’t ...

Click to continue reading Movies & TV Shows Geeks Pretend Don’t Exist

As movies continue to be transferred to Blu-ray, we’d like to suggest a few films that deserve everything that awesome platform has to offer. So here’s a top 10 list of movies that would look great, sound great, and benefit from the extensive special features that Blu-ray discs provide. Keep in mind that this list is not in the order of how great each movie is, but rather how much each film would benefit from a Blu-ray upgrade.

Of course, not everyone owns a Blu-ray player, but that’s changing quickly – if you love movies you really should find a way to get one. However, for some (like myself) it’ll be the return of an old friend.

Well, according to Harrison Ford it would appear that Indy 5 is one step closer to having him cracking his whip once more.

The star has revealed that he, George Lucas and director Steven Spielberg have agreed on an idea for Indy’s fifth adventure and that the ball is now in Lucas’ court to develop the plot.

In Hollywood that only means one thing – a sequel, and there have been rumblings of a fifth Indiana Jones adventure since Skull was released. Now, Harrison Ford has spoken again about the film whilst promoting his new movie Extreme Measures (formerly Crowley).

When talking to MTV Ford gave little away, but again made it clear that he was still interested in a new Indy film – if the script interests him. Ford said:

“George is working on an idea, and if it comes to a fruitful stage, all of us are very interested in making another.”

After last year’s critically acclaimed Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Steven Spielberg has been reportedly working on the next installment in the Indiana Jones saga.

Wait. That doesn’t sound right. Let’s try that again…

After making over $786 million dollars worldwide, Steven Spielberg has been reportedly working on the next installment in the Indiana Jones saga.

There we go – much better.

On the brighter side, Spielberg said that he has been working with George Lucas on the script and they are looking to bring back Sean Connery for this go round.

I wouldn’t really say that’s too surprising considering Connery has been one of the favorite additions to the Indiana Jones franchise. Second only to Shortround (“No time for love, Dr. Jones!”).
