HBO Cancels ‘Bored To Death,’ ‘Hung’ & ‘How To Make It’; Renews ‘Enlightened’

With a loaded production schedule and several potential new series in the works, pay-cable network HBO has cleaned house by unceremoniously pulling Bored to Death, Hung and How to Make it in America, while at the same time renewing the Laura Dern-led Enlightened, in the wake of its two Golden Globe nominations.

Sadly, the swift termination of these shows leaves the creators no time to accurately wrap up their respective storylines – which in the case of Hung and Bored to Death, ended with some pretty heavy questions waiting for answers. However, as fans of Deadwood, Carnivale and John from Cincinnati can attest: sometimes that’s the way the cookie crumbles.

Realistically, though, ratings were a problem. Hung, starring Thomas Jane (The Punisher, The Mist), Rebecca Creskoff (Justified) and Anne Heche (Rampart) ...

DVD/Blu-ray Breakdown: September 27, 2011

There are not a lot of titles to pick from this week, but this year’s mega-blockbuster Transformers: Dark of the Moon goes up against history’s blockbuster Ben Hur on DVD and Blu-ray.

Of course, with every new remake we seem to get a Blu-ray release of the original film. As the new Footloose approaches theaters in a few weeks, Paramount is bringing their dance classic to the small screen first.

In previous monster-related features on Screen Rant, we’ve noticed a huge passion for Gamera among our readers. Those same readers will be happy today as the trilogy hits Blu-ray in one set. All three Blu-rays are already available in some capacity, but now they can all be purchased together.

Weekend Movie News Wrap Up: August 3, 2008

Another week another Weekend Movie News Wrap Up. Hard to believe that we are into the month of August already! Crazy.

This week: Robert DeNiro visits the Edge of Darkness with Mel Gibson, we see more of The Terminator, Wes Craven’s old movies get remade..again, Thomas Jane lands a big role and Sam Raimi does comedy in The Transplants.

1. Mel Gibson’s comeback movie has apparently just nabbed Robert DeNiro as a co-star. The Martin Campbell directed The Edge of Darkness. This one appears to be shaping up nicely. Gibson plays a retired police detective investigating the death of his daughter.

Don’t these criminals ever learn? Never mess with Mad Mel’s family!

The film starts shooting in the next couple of weeks in Boston. DeNiro’s part is unknown.

2. A new Terminator: Salvation image has been released. It shows Christian Bale’s John Connor having a face-off with Sam Worthington’s Marcus.
