‘House’ Season 9 Renewal Unlikely

The continuation of television’s one-time hit series House is in jeopardy, as FOX recently revealed that the network is actively avoiding any programming decisions related House season 9.

While speaking at the TCA 2011 Winter Press Tour, FOX Entertainment President Kevin Reilly said, “We’ve done a good job of avoiding some of these big decisions.” Continuing, Reilly commented that there are some positives to deciding the future (or end) of television’s former ratings juggernaut: “I do feel fortunate that we have some high-class problems.”

Fortunately, even if Fox decides to cancel House, Reilly stated that the series would, “absolutely have a satisfying conclusion. … It’s not going have an unceremonious finish.” Well, as satisfying a conclusion as you can have from forcing the producers to develop an ending to the series mid-season.

‘House’ Season 8 Premiere Review & Discussion

For all intents and purposes, the House season 8 premiere presents a wonderfully crafted case study, penned by executive producer Peter Blake, on the man that is House, in which Hugh Laurie masterfully traverses a new environment filled with intriguing challenges and compelling characters – all while slowly revealing an elemental depth to the character that audiences haven’t seen in many years.

Unfortunately, the manner in which the House season 8 premiere presents itself feels less like a barely competent introductory episode, with regard to what fans can expect to see in terms of story-arcs as this season progresses and, instead, more like an epilogue to the events that transpired in the House season 7 finale.

DVD/Blu-ray Breakdown: August 30, 2011

This week on DVD and Blu-ray the television series dominate. Two weak new movie releases are overshadowed by four popular television shows hitting home video. The highlight of the week is a great crop of re-releases on Blu-ray, including four Coen Brothers movies, Top Gun, Good Will Hunting and the 3D Blu-ray for The Nightmare Before Christmas.

The Coen Brothers Collection may be the best title of the week, but technically it’s a lackluster collection. Of course, it depends on your taste in their films, but of the more memorable ones are left out. The Big Lebowski hit Blu-ray just recently, yet it is not in this collection. Instead the collection focuses on their earlier works like Fargo, Miller’s Crossing, Raising Arizona and Blood Simple.

The following titles can be found on DVD and Blu-ray.

With a little over a month before House season 8 is set to premiere, Fox released the first promo from the highly-anticipated upcoming season (well, not so highly anticipated to some) showing everyone’s favorite diagnostician dealing with his new-found life behind bars.

When we last left the famed physician in the House season 7 finale, his break up with Cuddy and a return to Vicodin elicited a malevolent side of House that had yet to appear in the many years the series has been on the air. With a full tank of gas and generous application of the gas pedal, House decided to drive his car through Cuddy’s living room.

‘Modern Family’ & ‘Hawaii Five-0′ Top DVR Ratings; ‘Supernatural’ & ‘Fringe’ Gain

Television’s busiest number-crunchers at TV by the Numbers have released their list of the most-recorded shows in America, with ABC’s Modern Family leading the pack. Shows like House, The Event and Supernatural got a significant bump in addition to first-run ratings.

Recorded episodes are making up a bigger and bigger chunk of the television audience, and the trend has been consistent for the 2010-1011 season.

For example, Modern Family scored an average of 11.2 million viewers for every live episode, plus 3.5 million DVR viewers – a whopping 31% increase.

This past season of House has already been tough on the series’ many fans. With a general shift in direction, “unique” storylines and an uncertain future, fans of the series have barely had a chance to catch their breath.

While it was previously announced that House will return to Fox for season 8, it appears that they will be one (wo)man down, as Lisa Edelstein has decided not to return for what many are calling House’s final season.

According to TVLine, an inside source is reporting that Edelstein had “opted not to return,” but no additional information was provided. With Fox and NBC Universal declining to comment, and Edelstein’s camp staying mum, one has to wonder what’s behind her ...

Fox Officially Renews ‘House’ For Season 8

After months of negotiations, Fox’s medical dramedy House has finally been renewed for an eighth season. The announcement came today, along with news that Fox and NBC Universal had reached an agreement.

The long wait for the renewal stemmed from broadcaster Fox wanting a lower production cost from NBC Universal, the studio that actually films and produces the show. Fox wanted a 20% cut in their part of the deal; while no monetary details have been revealed, the scuttlebutt is that the two parties met in the middle.

But don’t get too comfortable House fans: the new contract is only valid for one year. The show’s possible 9th season is still up in the air. But barring an extremely unlikely drop in viewership for the 2011-2012 run, House will almost certainly return – it might ...

House: ‘The Dig’ Review & Discussion – Olivia Wilde’s Return Episode

[Warning: this review will spoil the episode for you]

Six months after Thirteen (Olivia Wilde) mysteriously disappeared from Princeton Plainsboro for her “trip” to Italy in the House season 7 premiere, we finally see what the Huntington disease-stricken physician was really up to.

As the episode, entitled “The Dig,” opens with House (Hugh Laurie) standing outside of a prison, it’s easy to tell that Thirteen’s absence wasn’t as self-imposed as we initially thought. With a new mystery waiting for him at the steps of a New Jersey penitentiary, the ability to take the famed diagnostician outside of his familiar surroundings provides the perfect setting for the episode to unfold, and ultimately reveal Thirteen’s biggest secret.

Amber Tamblyn Leaving ‘House’ For Potential Fox Pilot

Amber Tamblyn, med student Martha Masters on House, will be leaving the series after next week’s episode. According to Tamblyn, she’s working on a yet-to-be-ordered pilot for Fox.

The news comes amid uncertainty over the future of House itself. While the series airs on Fox, it’s produced by NBC, and negotiations between the two networks for season 8 aren’t going well. There’s a chance that House could move to NBC next season. So far, only Hugh Laurie and Olivia Wilde have been confirmed for a return.

While Amber Tamblyn’s role was always temporary, the character of Martha Masters seamlessly blended-in with rest of House’s eclectic crew of physicians. With the return of Wilde’s character “Thirteen,” it’s time for Martha Masters to make her exit and return to medical school.

The future of House season 8 has never been in more danger of not happening than it is today – well, at least with Fox.

As it has been previously reported, Fox and NBC Universal (the company that produces House) have been in a dispute over the future of the series – specifically, who’s going to pay for what.

Today, Variety is reporting that both companies are still far from reaching an agreement, and that future of the series on Fox may be in jeopardy.

Robert Sean Leonard Leaving ‘House’ After Season 7?

Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital may be losing their friendliest physician, as Robert Sean Leonard has just announced that House season 7 will be his final season. How will House survive without Dr. Wilson?

In the midst of filming the House season 7 season finale, Leonard spoke with TV Line and abruptly announced that, “This is my last season of House. I’m shooting my last episode now. Contractually this is it.”

While the addition of the word “contractually” may give the appearance that Robert Sean Leonard isn’t completely finished with the David Shore medical series, it’s clear that Leonard’s recently announced return to Broadway in Born Again has put things into perspective for the famed thespian.

House: Olivia Wilde’s Return & Thirteen’s Disappearance Revealed

When Olivia Wilde’s character, Thirteen, left the hit Fox series House in the season 7 premiere, fans were left wondering where the illusive physician was headed and when she would return to the series.

Given that Thirteen’s planned trip to Rome turned out to be a carefully planned ruse, her eventual destination remained unknown. As the boisterous fan base of House continued to speculate the whereabouts of Thirteen, almost every possibility was considered.

Unfortunately, with release of the plot description for the April 11 return episode of House, entitled “The Big Dig,” it turns out that the collective minds of the House fan community were nowhere near close to Thirteen’s true destination.

As if there weren’t enough questions surrounding FOX’s hit medical drama House already, one of the show’s stars, Robert Sean Leonard, has recently announced he will be taking a lead role on Broadway in just a few short weeks. ‘House’ Season 8 Held Up By NBC & FOX Dispute

With FOX’s hit series House crossing the halfway mark of its seventh season, fans of the long-running medical drama are beginning to look ahead and wonder what wonderful mischief Princeton Plainsboro’s diagnostician will create in House season 8.

Unfortunately, it looks like all of the fanatical conjecture can now cease – at least for the moment – as House season 8 is currently at a standstill. NBC Universal, the production company behind the award-winning series, and FOX Television, the network that airs House, are currently in dispute about who should pay for the actual production of the hit series going forward.

‘House’: Lisa Edelstein Talks Huddy’s Future, Relationships & More

After it was reported that Olivia Wilde has returned to work on House, rumors began to circulate that because of Wilde’s theatrical commitments, her character, Thirteen, will succumb to Huntington’s disease in this season’s final episodes.

Considering Wilde’s growing popularity in the world of film, a storyline that would result in Thirteen being written off the series is not much of a stretch. Despite Wilde’s character being a fan favorite, her potential scheduling conflicts and future availability could put House producers in a position where continuing Thirteen’s storyline would hurt the overall series.
