Want To Know What Inspired Eli Roth’s Hostel Movies?

Rotten Tomatoes just published Eli Roth’s list of “The Best Horror Movies You’ve Never Seen.” Now keep in mind that this is the opinion of the guy who brought us the Hostel movies (ok, I actually liked the first one) and got all mad when audiences didn’t show up for Hostel 2 and blamed it on illegal downloads of all things.

His list is comprised entirely of obscure Italian horror films that you probably have indeed never heard of (I know I certainly hadn’t). The films include titles like Torso, Who Can Kill A Child, and Night Train Murders. He refers to these as a genre known as “giallo films,” which, since I don’t speak Italian I have no idea what that means.

No Hostel 3, 4 or 5 to follow Hostel 2

So not only is Eli Roth a fan of the MPAA, but he’s also showing some artistic integrity by stopping the Hostel movies at number two:

“There is ‘Hostel‘ and ‘Hostel 2‘ and that’s it. It’s like ‘Kill Bill Volume 1‘ and ‘Kill Bill Volume 2‘.”

In an interview he tried to highlight the difference between his Hostel movies and the Saw series with the above statement.

He followed that up with this great quote:

“I hate a lame third sequel, and I don’t want there to be one. I wish ‘Beyond Thunderdome‘ didn’t exist; I wish there was just ‘Mad Max‘ and ‘The Road Warrior‘. I really wasn’t crazy about ‘Spider-Man 3‘. I wanted it after ‘Spider-Man 1‘ and ‘Spider-Man 2‘, but with ‘Spider-Man 3‘ I was really disappointed when I saw ...

Eli (Hostel) Roth LIKES The MPAA

According to the MTV Movie Blog despite the fact that Eli Roth is a maker of uber-gross and torture-laden horror movies, Eli actually respects what the MPAA does. Considering the general view of studios and moviemakers regarding the MPAA (which hands out movie ratings), I was very surprised to read this.

Roth was the director of the very successful Hostel and the soon to be in theaters sequel Hostel II.

In regards to the sequel itself, Roth states:

“I was careful about how I used the violence, and really wanted to create an overall more terrifying film experience, and not just make a gore-fest. You can always make a film more gory by adding more tools and more bodies, but what I really wanted to do was create classic ...

A couple of clips from Hostel: Part II. At least in the second clip there’s a reason the girl running through the woods falls down. MTV Movies Blog

The Incredible Hulk: The Hulk will only be 9 feet tall and will not get any bigger than that. Superherohype

There are more X-Men-based movies to come, but not necessarily the full team. Spinoffs? Superherohype

Matt Damon says he’s done with the Bourne films. Personally I think it’s a good idea, especially if Bourne Ultimatum closes the circle. Leave it at a great trilogy and move on. /Film

Hostel 2 Website Is Live

The website for Hostel 2 is online, but if you’re squeamish I suggest you don’t head over there. It opens with a moving image of the upside down woman in the poster making very unnerving pleading and begging noises. It’s creepy as hell. I have to say it’s pretty slick as far as web design, though.

There’s a trailer up along with a gallery and plot synopsis. You can also download a number of Hostel-related backgrounds for your computer desktop, but I can’t imagine who would want to.
