Hellraiser is one of the most venerable franchises in horror movie history, something that Patrick Lussier and Todd Farmer definitely knew before embarking on a reboot of the series. But rather than simply duplicating what Clive Barker did with the original film, Lussier and Farmer hope to bring something new to the franchise.

Since Lussier (director) and Farmer (writer) took over Hellraiser duties back in October, the duo has been adamant that their film would not be a teen-friendly PG-13 light-horror romp.

Patrick Lussier Talks ‘Hellraiser’ Reboot & ‘Halloween 3D’

It was announced back in October that Patrick Lussier would direct the long-gestating Hellraiser reboot and that his My Bloody Valentine and Drive Angry 3D collaborator Todd Farmer would write the script.

While their involvement was seen as an improvement over the Weinsteins’ previously rumored “teen-friendly” approach, the duo’s past work didn’t do much to alleviate the skepticism surrounding the project. Hellraiser fans have been quick to point out how different the series is from the other 80s slasher franchises it continually gets lumped in with.

So while there’s little doubt that Lussier and Farmer can deliver a film that’s suitably gory, there’s still some concern that the thematic substance of Clive Barker’s original film will be lost. Patrick Lussier & Todd Farmer Take Over ‘Hellraiser’ Reboot

A few days ago we reported that Christian E. Christiansen, a director who had previously vacated the director’s chair on the Hellraiser reboot, was back on board and ready to deliver a teen-friendly version of Clive Barker’s notoriously graphic horror masterpiece.

More than a few fans had trouble imagining how the filmmakers would deal with Hellraiser‘s overt sadomasochism within the confines of a PG-13 rating. Well, Shock Till You Drop is claiming that all of our passionate protesting was for nought.

‘Hellraiser’ Reboot Finds a Teen-Friendly Director

The Hellraiser franchise has always revolved around the complex relationship between pleasure and pain – but for fans of the long-running series, the last two decades have been filled primarily with the latter.

After a string of increasingly embarrassing straight-to-video sequels, Dimension evidently looked at the box office success that the new versions of Halloween, Friday the 13th, and A Nightmare on Elm Street were enjoying and decided it was time to give Hellraiser similar treatment.

The original 1987 film was written and directed by horror legend Clive Barker – based on his novel The Hellbound Heart. Rather than doing a straight forward remake, the Hellraiser reboot was, at one point, going to include aspects of the novel the original film had ignored.

Stephan Smith Collins Cast as Pinhead in ‘Hellraiser: Revelations’

Bloody Disgusting has exclusively confirmed that actor Stephan Smith Collins has been cast as Pinhead in Hellraiser: Revelations, the latest straight-to-DVD sequel in the long-lasting horror franchise. The film, which shouldn’t be confused with the long-awaited Hellraiser reboot, is currently filming in Los Angeles on a tight shooting schedule and an even tighter budget.

In late August, Hellraiser fans were stunned to learn that actor Doug Bradley would not be reprising the role of Pinhead in Hellraiser: Revelations, the ninth film in the 23-year-old horror series and the fifth straight-to-DVD sequel. Many even asked why Dimension Films would bother moving forward with another low-budget sequel if Bradley wasn’t on board.

Hellraiser Reboot Now Stuck In Limbo

It’s been awhile since we’ve heard anything about the inevitable reboot of the classic 1987 horror movie Hellraiser. Last March, we reported that it would be a reboot rather than a remake and that it would draw both from the ’80s film and Clive Barker’s original novel, The Hellbound Heart.

Dimension – the studio behind most of the Hellraiser films to date – has been attempting to get a new version of the franchise in theaters for years now, trying to find the right people to bring an updated version to a 21st century audience.

New Hellraiser Movie Is A ‘Reboot,’ NOT A ‘Remake’

Among movie fans the term “remake” is one which often gets winced at, gets heads shaking, and sometimes even rants will be induced. Well those making the upcoming new Hellraiser film (yes, they’re making another one) have refuted that it’s a remake. No, no, it’s not a remake says French director Pascal Laugier, but rather a reboot.

There’s a difference? I guess so…

Via an interview (which was written in French and translated into English), Laugier said the reboot will mix elements from both the original film and Clive Barker’s original novella The Hellbound Heart.

The first draft of the script has already been written by Laugier in French, and is now in the process of being translated into English.

Now to be fair I guess you could say there is a difference between a movie being remake and reboot. For example Rob ...
