Top movie awards contenders like 'Toy Story 3' and 'The King's Speech' have been deemed ineligible for the Best Screenplay categories at The Writers Guild of America awards.

When awards season rolls around every year there always seems to be a group of films that are tapped to pick up their share of the major awards. 2010 is no exception and this year the likes of Toy Story 3, Inception, The King’s Speech, The Social Network, Black Swan and The Fighter are among those which have won awards already and look likely to pick up some Oscars as well.

However, when it comes to the Screen Actors Guild (SAG), the Directors Guild of America (DGA) and the Writers Guild of America (WGA), there are rules which often prohibit certain awards favorites from winning in some of the big categories offered by awards ceremonies.

Following the Oscars deeming the scores for Black Swan, True Grit and The Fighter ineligible for ...

Click to continue reading Toy Story 3, The King’s Speech & More Ineligible For WGA Screenplay Awards

'Cinema 2010' is an excellent film retrospective that not only features plenty of stylish, action-packed clips, but also a touching look back at the movies of 2010.

The end of 2010 is nigh and with it comes the expected avalanche of features, articles, and videos chronicling the best/worst movies to hit theaters over the past 365 days or so. Whether you think 2010 was a weak or strong year for cinema overall, there’s no denying that it had its share of poignant drama, side-splitting humor, nightmarish horror, gritty action, and lots of eye-popping visuals in both 2D and 3D.

Most 2010 film retrospective videos released so far have attempted to cram in as many visually dazzling or intensely memorable moments from this year’s most popular releases as possible – so chances are we’re all gong to be mildly sick of seeing the same exact clips (awesome though they may be) from films like Inception or The Social Network by the time 2011 finally arrives.

This week’s DVD and Blu-ray releases are not overwhelmingly great, but do provide some quality entertainment. While the new releases lack any kind of box office punch, the Blu-ray re-releases include a pair of films every movie-lover needs.

One of the missing pieces to the Christopher Nolan Blu-ray collection finally hits the format this week, as the world prepares for his critically-acclaimed Inception.

The new releases don’t have any “blind buys,” but two quality films make their way to home video along with one of Gerard Butler’s more forgettable comedic turns.

All of the following can be purchased on DVD or Blu-ray this week:

Screen Rant’s Ben Kendrick reviews Greenberg

Greenberg, the latest dramedy from Noah Baumbach (Margot at the Wedding), stars Ben Stiller in a role that strips the actor of the comedic stylings that have made him famous. The result is a thoughtful movie that provides Stiller with an opportunity to show moviegoers a depth we haven’t seen from him in quite some time – as well as provide the framework for co-star Greta Gerwig to steal the show.

The story follows Roger Greenberg (Stiller) who returns to L.A. following a psychiatric breakdown in order to dog-sit for his brother. Greenberg is forty years old and extremely neurotic. He no longer possesses a driver’s license, has more fingers on one hand than actual friends, and is content with doing absolutely nothing. Not only ...

Click to continue reading Greenberg Review

This Week:

We watch the Watchmen‘s grosses; Ben Stiller leaves family comedy behind with Greenberg; Brendan Fraser returns to The Center Of The Earth; Vance joins Fraser and Harrison Ford in Crowley; Mickey Rourke has Passion and The Strangers become familiar.

Box Office

Dwayne Johnson’s Race To Witch Mountain captured the top spot with an estimated weekend gross of $25 million. There was once a time that people thought that “The Rock” was going to inherit Arnold Schwarzenegger’s action throne – not it appears that he’s the new family Eddie Murphy.

It looks like people aren’t watching the Watchmen – with a drop off of 67% showing that the film does not have legs.
