‘Glee’ Season 4 Adds Kate Hudson & Sarah Jessica Parker

The shining star of Glee is looking to remain just as bright next season by adding the glamorous Sarah Jessica Parker and Kate Hudson as the latest A-listers to appear on Fox’s hit musical comedy. Fox is not saying much about what roles the two actresses will be taking on – but Parker let the news slip to Kelly Ripa this morning on Live! that she would be playing a “mentor of sorts.”

No word on whether either will sing – but Hudson has been confirmed for a six-episode arc, with Parker also appearing in a yet-to-be disclosed muti-episode arc. Hudson and Parker will join a star-studded list of guest stars that includes Whoopi Goldberg, Jeff Goldblum, Ricky Martin, Idina Menzel, and Gwyneth Paltrow – who has also expressed interest in reprising ...

It’s the week every Star Wars fan has been waiting for – or at least complaining about – since news of George Lucas’ latest milking of the legendary saga. But the Skywalker saga is not the only title worth your attention arriving on DVD and Blu-ray this week.

In addition to Star Wars, a number of television shows and some independent films make their way to home video. But Tuesday offers up another blockbuster as Thor comes to DVD and Blu-ray in both 2D and 3D. If that isn’t enough, one of cinema’s most cherished classics, Citizen Kane, hits Blu-ray as well.

Neither Emma Stone nor Death itself could stop Rise of the Planet of the Apes from snagging the box office crown a second time this weekend. The popular prequel dropped about 49% from its opening for an estimated $27 million take and a $104.4 million total. Suffice it to say, 20th Century Fox will want Rupert Wyatt to start giving more thought to his sequel(s) plans, ASAP.

While the hallways of William McKinley High School will be echoing with the sweet lyrical sounds of New Directions in Glee season 3, fans of the series better prepare for a major change that’s coming next year, as series creator Ryan Murphy has revealed that fan-favorites Lea Michele, Chris Colfer and Cory Monteith won’t be returning for season 4.

‘Modern Family’ & ‘Hawaii Five-0′ Top DVR Ratings; ‘Supernatural’ & ‘Fringe’ Gain

Television’s busiest number-crunchers at TV by the Numbers have released their list of the most-recorded shows in America, with ABC’s Modern Family leading the pack. Shows like House, The Event and Supernatural got a significant bump in addition to first-run ratings.

Recorded episodes are making up a bigger and bigger chunk of the television audience, and the trend has been consistent for the 2010-1011 season.

For example, Modern Family scored an average of 11.2 million viewers for every live episode, plus 3.5 million DVR viewers – a whopping 31% increase.

Thor hammers the competition; cool kids sign up to play The Hunger Games; Stephen Collins wants to adopt one of the Three Stooges; don’t stop believin’ in a 3D film version of Glee; add three more names to the dinner list for Piranha 3DD; get ready for a Seven Samurai remake; and a trio of funny ladies sign on for Will Ferrell’s Bachelorette.

Box Office

Marvel’s Thor grossed an estimated $66 million in the U.S. during its opening weekend. While the God of Thunder’s solo outing failed to reach Iron Man levels of success, it still managed to exceed Incredible Hulk‘s $55.4 million opening – though that was undoubtedly in part due to Thor being screened in the 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D format. Props to Marvel for its successful marketing strategy, all the same.

‘Glee’ Creator Ryan Murphy Butts Heads With Rock Stars Over Music

Fox’s musical show Glee has featured some high-profile pop songs, but not everyone wants in on the action. Foo Fighters lead singer Dave Grohl commented on series creator Ryan Murphy in a recent interview, citing the producer’s public complaints against bands who refuse to license their music to the show.

Grohl spoke to The Hollywood Reporter after the Foo Fighters denied Fox the rights to create a Glee episode with the band’s music. “It’s every band’s right, you shouldn’t have to do f—ing Glee,” said the rock star. The Foo Fighters join rock legends Guns ‘n’ Roses and alt rockers Kings of Leon, who also declined to license songs for Glee.

Grohl took particular offense at Murphy’s reaction to other bands’ refusals, saying:

TV Ratings: ‘NCIS’ Ties ‘Glee’; ‘No Ordinary Family’ & ‘V’ In Trouble [Updated]

[ UPDATE: Fox reached out to us and provided updated Nielsen ratings where it shows that NCIS & Glee actually tied each other in the 18-49 demo.]

CBS won Tuesday night’s ratings race as usual, but the long-running NCIS beat tied Glee in the all-important 18-49 demographic – something that hasn’t happened in quite some time. Additionally, science fiction shows No Ordinary Family and V are floundering on ABC.

The NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service and NCIS: Los Angeles lineup is a hard one to beat in overall numbers. The original show has averaged 20 million viewers a week for its eighth season, while its western cousin has averaged 16.5 in its second.

For 68 years, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has been celebrating their favorites in film and television with the Golden Globe Awards.

Once again, the multifaceted and generally hilarious Ricky Gervais will be serving as host of tonight’s gala. While those in attendance will be filled with anticipation about whether or not they will take home the award in their chosen category, viewers at home will be anxiously waiting to see how far Gervais will push the comedic envelope with his monologue and numerous ad-libs throughout the night.

With 25 separate categories having to fit within tonight’s given time slot, something tells me that Gervais will be moving things along at a swift pace – all while sipping from his iconic glass a beer that always remains not-so-hidden beneath his podium.

In preparation for tonight’s awards ceremony, over 35 million votes were cast by the American public in hopes that their favorite film, television series, actor or musician will take home this coveted award.

‘The Fighter’ Leads 2011 Screen Actors Guild Award Nominations

The Screen Actors Guild announced nominations for the 17th annual SAG Awards this morning.

The nominees reaffirmed many of the front-runners for possible Academy Award nominations.

In the leading female actor category, Natalie Portman earned a rightful nomination for her work in Black Swan, but she’ll be running against stiff competition from Nicole Kidman in Rabbit Hole, along with many other notable actresses. In the leading male actor category, Jeff Bridges was recognized for his take on the iconic character of Rooster Cogburn in True Grit, but he’ll face strong competition from young actors Jesse Eisenberg in The Social Network and James Franco in 127 Hours.

Celebrities Josh Duhamel, Katie Holmes, and Blair Underwood dragged themselves from the comfort of their beds early this morning to announce the nominations for this year’s other big cinematic awards, the Golden Globes.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has unveiled its nominations for the 68th annual Golden Globes and, like any year’s crop of nominees, there are a few surprise choices, some unexpected snubs, and a number of highly anticipated selections.

Leading the movie pack with seven nominations is the period drama The King’s Speech, which began to garner serious awards buzz back when it toured the festival circuit this past fall. AFI Lists Top 10 Movies and TV Programs of 2010

The American Film Institute announced its list of the Top 10 movies of 2010 today, giving film fans a likely glimpse at many of the movies in contention for the Best Picture Oscar at this year’s Academy Awards.

AFI’s Top 10 films represent a wide range of styles, from the brainy big budget action film Inception and the animated Toy Story 3 to the low-budget indie films Winter’s Bone and The Kids Are All Right.

Several of the films on the list, including True Grit and The Fighter, have yet to make nationwide releases, but are already racking up major points with critics. Our own Kofi Outlaw gave The Fighter a perfect five star review.

‘Glee’ Co-Creator Says Fan-Favorite Cast Members Will Graduate

It looks like the cast of Glee will eventually graduate. Unlike Bart Simpson who appears to be perpetually trapped in the purgatory of fifth grade for twenty years, the Glee producers are hoping to make the series believable in a true-to-life application.

From Lea Michele’s Rachel Berry to Chris Colfer’s Kurt, some of Glee’s most beloved characters face replacement – if the show breaches the four season mark.

Glee co-creator Ryan Murphy stated in a recent TV Guide interview that he expects some of the stars of his hit show to depart in 2012:
