Paramount is removing 'G.I. Joe: Retaliation' from the 2012 Summer slate, so it can be post-converted to 3D for a March 2013 release date.

Here’s an unexpected twist: Paramount is delaying the release date for G.I. Joe: Retaliation, just over a month before the sequel was originally due to hit theaters around the U.S. Retaliation has now been pushed back an entire nine months to a March 29th, 2013 date – where it will face off against The Host during its opening weekend.

The reason for said abrupt delay? Paramount wants to convert the film to 3D, in order to improve its box office prospects overseas.

Deadline quotes an unnamed Paramount head as saying (about Retaliation):

“We’re going to do a conscientious 3D job because we’ve seen how it can better box office internationally. Jim Cameron did all of ‘Titanic’‘s 3D in post – and look how well that movie turned out.”

The quality of Titanic‘s post-converted 3D has demonstrated that non-native 3D ...

Click to continue reading ‘G.I.

Today’s batch of Summer Movie Season 2012 paraphernalia includes images and posters from a somewhat belated threequel (Men in Black III), a retooling of a centuries-old tale (Snow White and the Huntsman), a revamping of a cash-cow comic book movie franchise (The Amazing Spider-Man), Schwarzenegger, Willis and Stallone shooting things up in The Expendables 2 - and G.I. Joe: Retaliation, which bucks the sequel/reboot trend by being equal parts both.

Check out the full gallery for another look at the new alien hardware in the third (or, as the posters put it, cubed) Men in Black film, along with the namesakes for every one of the aforementioned titles – including a pic that showcases three iconic names in 1980s action entertainment, united together (and not simply trash-talking one another).

A team of new (and old) Joes strike back against Cobra Commander's forces in the second trailer for the upcoming summer sequel, 'G.I. Joe: Retaliation'.

Despite the influx of G.I. Joe: Retaliation posters and images over the past few weeks, fans have grown increasingly (and audibly) restless about the wait for a new trailer. Just in the nick of time, another theatrical promo has been released for the second Joe live-action movie (see above), offering a succinct outline of the story featured in the (semi-)rebooting sequel, an extended look at the film’s renovated cast in motion – and a better idea of what director Jon M. Chu meant when he said that Retaliation does not “discount” the events in Rise of Cobra.

Here’s the million dollar question, though: will seeing this additional footage from Retaliation ultimately get the fanbase more excited – or diminish anticipation for the film?

As you’ve undoubtedly picked up on by now, Retaliation “wipes the slate clean” by having most of the G.I. ...

Click to continue reading New ‘G.I.

No less than eight G.I. Joe: Retaliation character posters were released last week, featuring the sequel’s various new, returning and improved heroic/villainous players alike. An additional pair of character one-sheets have since made their way online – in the form(s) of an alternate pic with Adrianne Palicki as Lady Jaye (now, with desert camouflage attire) and Detroit 1-8-7‘s D.J. Cotrona as Flint – along with a Korean poster for the film.

You can see all three new promotional images in the gallery above. Be sure to also scroll on down for larger versions of each poster, plus excerpts from an interview where Retaliation director Jon M. Chu (Step Up 3D) discusses casting big-name action stars like Dwayne Johnson and Bruce Willis – along with his explanation of how the Joe sequel works as a standalone reboot, a regular sequel and a throwback to classic Joe mythos.

8 new character posters have been released for the sequel, 'G.I. Joe: Retaliation', highlighting the new 'Joe' squad and Cobra Commander's improved design.

Despite getting off to a bumpy start with 2009′s G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, the live-action Joe franchise looks to take a big step in the right direction with this summer’s installment, G.I. Joe: Retaliation. Director Jon Chu’s decision to include more fan-favorite Joe characters – and abandon Rise of Cobra helmer Stephen Sommers’ cheesy approach to the series, in favor of a down n’ dirty, hard-hitting angle – has a lot to do with that.

We’ve rounded up the latest Retaliation character posters from around the ‘Net, as can be viewed in the gallery above.

We’re just a few weeks away from the official start of the 2012 Summer Movie Season, which means tons of franchise titles, reboots, and sequels will soon be flooding theaters – including, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, The Expendables 2, and Piranha 3DD. Once things cool down at your local multiplex, more artsy fare (like Neil Jordan’s Byzantium) will be taking the place of those blockbuster releases.

As it were, we have new promotional stills, images, and posters from all four of the aforementioned titles to share with you today. So, whatever your flavor – be it smoldering-but-deadly secret soldiers, the definitive BAMF (ie. Chuck Norris), well-endowed sunbathers or centuries-old, immortal vampiric beauties – you can find it here.

[UPDATE: We've added a new set photo from Riddick.]

Few things give film geeks (us included) more pleasure than being able to pore over still frames from upcoming blockbusters – and, in the process, (over)analyze everything from the costumes on display to the angle the photos were shot at.

It’s for that reason that, yet again, we’ve gathered together new images from several movies on the horizon, including this summer’s action sequel G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Ridley Scott’s Alien-verse flick Prometheus – and hi-res, non-watermarked, versions of previously-unveiled pics from the first Hobbit movie (courtesy of director Peter Jackson).

[UPDATED: Check Out New Images of Jinx, Lady Jaye and Roadblock!]

There’s no doubt that G.I. Joe‘s resident ninja Snake Eyes is badass. In fact, Snake Eyes was (in this writer’s opinion) one of the only saving graces of G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, and somehow director Stephen Sommers managed to even mess that up, by giving Snake Eyes a mask with a plastic mouth on the front of it…for some reason.

It’s true that Snake Eyes got the short end of the stick in the first film – but it’s just as true that Jon M. Chu, director of the upcoming sequel film G.I. Joe: Retaliation has learned from the mistakes of predecessor on several fashion fronts. We’ve already seen Chu’s much improved version of Cobra Commander – and today we’re getting a closer look at the improved Snake Eyes.

Warner Bros.’ Wrath of the Titans will get a head start on the blockbuster competition when it hits theaters this March, while Paramount’s G.I.
Today we have new television spots for all three of these impending features. Read on for more information about each respective title – and to get your fill of action-packed footage featuring mythological monsters running amok, a fiery-haired princess confronting mysterious magical forces, and elite U.S. soldiers facing off against deadly enemies that pose a serious threat to national security.

One of the major selling points for this summer’s G.I. Joe: Retaliation is how director Jon Chu has found a way to organically “clean house” and recruit plenty of fresh blood for the second installment in the live-action Joe franchise. That includes Dwayne “(Still) The Rock” Johnson taking over leading man duties by sliding into the role of (as the actor puts it) the “BAMF” that is Roadblock.

Johnson, as Roadblock, recited “the proverb of Jay-Z” amidst footage of his Joe team duking it out with Cobra Commander’s forces in the Retaliation Super Bowl TV trailer. Today, we have another television spot for the sequel, which likewise features Roadblock waxing philosophical in between bouts of kicking butt and taking names.

When movie fans first heard word that Justin Bieber: Never Say Never director Jon Chu would be heading-up G.I.
Then came word that Chu and the production team would be dramatically slashing the star-studded cast to streamline the sequel – with high profile actors and actresses, such as Rachel Nichols, Marlon Wayans, and Dennis Quaid, all finding themselves excised from the franchise (at least for now). However, much like the potential improvements headed to Michael Bay’s Transformers 4, Chu’s hybrid-sequel-reboot approach has begun to inspire a lot of confidence in the upcoming film (as evidenced by ...

Click to continue reading Jon Chu Talks ‘G.I.
The trailer for 'G.I. Joe: Retaliation' highlights the sequel's new cast, grittier action, and more practical effects. But will it be enough to win over those who didn't like the first film?

Next summer, director Jon Chu (Step Up 2 & 3) will attempt to craft a better G.I. Joe movie than the one put together by director Stephen Sommers (The Mummy) back in 2009. To combat fan skepticism (which remains on red alert status at the time of writing this), Chu and CO. have promised that their sequel, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, will give the franchise a fresh start, with a better cast, better story and most of all, better action than its predecessor.

With today’s G.I. Joe: Retaliation trailer, we’re getting our first look at whether or not the actual film lives up to all the promises.

G.I. Joe 2 comes to us with mostly a new cast of characters, though the story will continue from where Rise of Cobra left off, in the sense that Cobra Commander (no longer played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is now the masked leader of the terrorist organization, and his ...

Click to continue reading ‘G.I.
[UPDATE: Scroll down for an early look at Dwayne Johnson as Roadblock in the G.I. Joe sequel!].

Feelings about G.I. Joe: Retaliation have been on the mixed side – especially in the wake of information attained from the film’s casting calls, which indicated the sequel may be adding several new characters (rather than established fan-favorites) to the mix.

Retaliation co-writer Rhett Reese’s recent Joe-related tweet has cast some doubt on the implications of said casting calls. However, there is one new character that we can officially confirm will appear in the film.

Variety has learned that Emmy-nominee Walter Goggins has signed on for Retaliation, which will also include the likes of Dwayne Johnson, Ray Stevenson, and possibly Bruce Willis.
Production on director Jon Chu’s G.I. Joe 2 (tentatively titled G.I. Joe: Retaliation) is about to get underway, with big action stars like Dwayne Johnson and Bruce Willis having been recruited to give the sequel an edge over its moderately-received predecessor.

Casting calls sent out for the Hasbro flick reveal the names of a few brand new Joes that’ll make their debut in the G.I. Joe followup, along with some more information about the plot.

Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner previously indicated that G.I. Joe: Retaliation would essentially amount to a semi-franchise reboot that wouldn’t require moviegoers to be familiar with the original film. However, according to io9, it looks like the sequel will still be “pretty strongly connected” to the first pic – even though Channing Tatum, Ray Park, and ...

Click to continue reading ‘G.I.
Stephen Sommers brought many of our favorite toys to life in 2009′s G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and while the film was not of high critical standard, it did a fair job at delivering action and set pieces that rivaled only what our imaginations could come up with when playing with the action figures as youngsters.

So, when the obligatory G.I. Joe 2 was announced with Sommers not returning, many of us thought it would be a good thing to see what another director could do with the franchise and fan-favorite characters. But then star Rachel Nichols revealed that most of the cast would confusingly not return and it was difficult to get excited for more Joe if they couldn’t even bring back the live-action action figures. ...

Click to continue reading Bruce Willis Joining ‘G.I.
It looks like J.J. Abrams is finally ready to commit to directing 'Star Trek 2' for Paramount, but 'G.I. Joe: Retaliation' will be taking its summer 2012 release date.

While J.J. Abrams has (in public) been scuffling his feet about actually committing to the task of directing Star Trek 2, it is understandable. Between his having completed post-production and promotion duties on Super 8 just a couple months ago, and his involvement as producer on upcoming TV shows like Alcatraz and Person of Interest, the man has definitely had a lot on his plate to handle.

The good news for Trekkies and sci-fi lovers alike is that Abrams seems ready to finally accept the job as helmer of Star Trek 2. However, the bad news is that (as we’ve all but known for months now) the film will definitely not be arriving in Summer 2012.

According to Deadline, Paramount has accepted that it’s simply not possible for Star Trek ...

Click to continue reading J.J.
