Bill Murray Says ‘Ghostbusters 3′ Is Still ‘A Possibility’

The last time Dan Aykroyd spoke in public about Ghostbusters 3, he referred to the project as being “in suspended animation” and said it was “a surety” that his costar, Bill Murray, will not be reprising his role as wise-cracker Peter Venkman in the threequel (should it happen). Reading between the lines, it sounded like Murray’s disinterest was going to ensure that the long-dormant supernatural horror/comedy franchise will remain undisturbed.

Murray has yet to confirm that he’s officially out of the question for a third round of catching specters. In fact, his most recent comments on the matter offer a sliver of hope that a third Ghostbusters flick could still be in the cards for him (whether the public likes it or not).

A few years back, in the wake of Rocky 6, Die Hard 4, and Indy 4, it seemed like Ghostbusters 3 was well on its way to being greenlit with the original cast on board – including Bill Murray as a ghost. Now? Not so much.

Recently, there were rumors about Murray’s resistance to a threequel – rumors that involved the screenplay and a shredder, and which Dan Aykroyd addressed when word of Murray’s resistance spread throughout the Interwebs. Now, Aykroyd is confirming that Murray is 100% out of Ghostbusters 3.

Yes, Aykroyd’s been doing this Ghostbusters dance for years now, to the point where it’s really best to take anything he says about GB 3 – or any rumors concerning the belated horror-comedy threequel in general – with a bucket of salt. Ghostbusters fans around the world can now rejoice, as Bill Murray has finally read the Ghostbusters 3 script. But before any celebrating, you should probably know that he didn’t really like the script… at all.

In fact, the National Enquirer is reporting that Murray disliked the script so much that he decided to shred the script and send it back to his fellow paranormal exterminators, Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis, with a note attached: “No one wants to pay money to see fat, old men chasing ghosts!”

Sigourney Weaver Offers ‘Avatar 2′ and ‘Ghostbusters 3′ Update

Classic fan-favorite (and multiple Oscar-nominated) starlet Sigourney Weaver will return to theaters this month in the action flick, Abduction, and will co-headline the thriller Red Lights next year. However, most everyone really wants to know about two of the actress’ (theoretical) upcoming franchise sequels: Avatar 2 and the perennially-delayed Ghostbusters 3.

James Cameron is expected to shoot Avatar 2 and 3 back-to-back, beginning in 2012; meanwhile, Dan Aykroyd has been talking of late about Ghostbusters 3 starting production next spring, with or without Bill Murray. But will Weaver be involved with either project?

Kurt Fuller Says ‘Ghostbusters 3′ Shouldn’t Be Made; Discusses Bill Murray

It appears that the resident Ghostbusters 3 hold-out, Bill Murray, has added another man to his corner of unassured confidence in a possible threequel for the hit franchise, as Ghostbusters 2 alum Kurt Fuller says that he doesn’t believe Ghostbusters 3 should be made.

We spoke with Ghostbusters 2’s proverbial “pecker” while at Comic-Con about his role of Woody the coroner on the USA hit series Psych, and it appears that Fuller has still not completely taken Peter Venkman’s advice from the Ghostbusters sequel: “Aren’t you supposed to lie to me and kiss my butt?” though some “but kissing” does naturally occur.

This weekend, while in the UK to promote No Strings Attached, Ivan Reitman provided Ghostbusters fans with a glimmer of hope by suggesting that Bill Murray has, in fact, read the script for Ghostbusters 3. Unfortunately, that’s not the case.

The success rate of belated movie sequels really does not bode well for the quality of the perennially delayed Ghostbusters 3. The second sequel in the popular horror-comedy series is still looking to become a reality soon, as franchise writer/star Dan Aykroyd has confirmed that casting for the pic is indeed underway.

In recent years Bill Murray’s attraction to joining Ghostbusters 3 has been like the lyrics to a Katy Perry song:

Movie monsters come in all shapes and sizes. While some of the smallest creatures have produced the greatest fear in humanity, there’s no questioning that the giant monsters that attack whole cities and engulf victims like Tic-Tacs are terrifying on a whole other scale (get it?). Movies have seen their fair share of the big fellas, and we’ve narrowed them down to those we think are the scariest of them all.

Rumor Patrol: Sigourney Weaver Shakes Up Ghostbusters 3

You would think with Halloween over that the Ghostbusters 3 news would settle down, but with the release of Avatar, our favorite Cello-playing actress, Sigourney Weaver, is making her rounds. While in England, she decided to talk about Ghostbusters 3 and in turn confuse the entire world.

Sitting down with Channel 4, Weaver says,

“I’m afraid that it is happening. I hope that people are excited about that. I don’t know if I’ll be in it. I’ve gotten a couple of calls, “Will you read the script?” I know that my little son, Oscar… I think he’s grown up to become a Ghostbuster.”

“I think that Bill Murray might have a little more to do with it. I think he might be a ghost.”

With Halloween soon approaching, it seems as though this week we are overrun with new information regarding what the status is of Ghostbusters 3. While some of it may be new information, one has to sift through a majority of regurgitated old information as well as general speculation to find it. This week is no different as we bring you news (and rumors) on the status of our favorite paranormal exterminators from Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray and Ivan Reitman.

We’ve got Reitman telling us that it’s “more positive than negative”, Murray saying that there’s no script and, for the first time, Aykroyd being less than optimistic by stating it’s all talk until they get green lit and are giving a production number.

There’s also this rumor that there’s no funding for Ghostbusters 3, but we’ll that we’ll get to later.

Reitman “100% Attached” To Direct Ghostbusters 3

Our friends over at Bloody Disgusting are reporting that they have “confirmed, 100%, without a shadow of a doubt” that Ivan Reitman is attached to direct Ghostbusters 3. Now before all you “ghost heads” get excited about Reitman returning, there’s something else you should know, “he hasn’t decided whether or not he really wants to direct [it], yet.”

Reitman attached, but not committing to direct is not that surprising. Over the past 10 years, Reitman has only directed 2 films (Evolution & My Super Ex-Girlfriend), but since he’s one of the five members in the “infamous” Ghostbusters rights holders agreement (Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Ivan Reitman & Columbia Pictures (Sony) all have to sign off on anything Ghostbusters before it can happen), attaching himself to the project without deciding to direct could ...

Rumors, speculation and more rumors! For the past 20 years that’s all we’ve gotten from Hollywood regarding Ghostbusters 3, but it wasn’t for a lack of trying on Dan Aykroyd’s part. He wrote a script, came up with ideas, and pushed it around in hopes of getting it made. Nothing came of it and it seemed that Ghostbusters 3 was just never meant to be.

That has all changed in the recent months, Dr. Raymond Stantz (a.k.a. Dan Aykroyd) has been out in the movie publications and on web sites pushing the new Ghostbusters 3 movie hard. Last week Aykroyd revealed who he would like for the two female roles (Alyssa Milano, Eliza Dushku) and that Ramis would be directing instead of Reitman.

Is Ghostbusters 3 Really Going To Happen?

Maybe it was seeing a 60+ year old Harrison Ford still kicking ass and taking names in Indiana Jones & the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Or more likely, it was said film’s $750 million box-office receipts. Regardless, if Dread Central is to be believed, Ghostbusters 3 may finally become a reality.

As per their sources, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson have all agreed to reprise their roles in a third live-action installment – just under 20 years after Ghostbusters 2 graced the silver screen.

But it doesn’t stop there, ladies and germs. Here’s the real juicy info:
