Nic Cage Wants More Sequels

Nic Cage Wants More Sequels

I was going to title this: Nic Cage Must Want A New House, but I might have confused people.

Cage has been doing the press rounds for National Treasure: Book of Secrets, and someone over at comingsoon.net asked him about a sequel to Ghost Rider and the opportunity of another film in the National Treasure series. He seems quite open to these, and I would be too considering that he’d pocket at least $20 million per film.

When asked about another Ghost Rider film, Cage said that “All they have to do is call, and I would love to see that happen. That would be fun,”

When asked about National Treasure he replied:

“With ‘National Treasure,’ I believe that it should become more and more ‘International Treasure,’ …I was very happy to see that we went to London, England and Paris, France, but I’d like to see the movie go wider still. I’d like to go into Africa, Egypt, Asia, and keep going. My hope is that Ben is recruited and he gets a dossier from these other countries about their history, and has to download it and learn it, and then try to go on these hunts on their behalf. That would be a lot of fun for me.”

Ghost Rider Creator Sues Marvel

Ghost Rider Creator Sues Marvel

Gary Friedrich, the creator of Ghost Rider, is suing Marvel, Sony and a bunch of other folks over the recent movie Ghost Rider (review) and related merchandise. Inexplicably (to me) the movie has earned about $250 million worldwide to date, and we’re just getting into the secondary market with the DVD releases.

It seems that Friedrich signed over the copyright (not to Marvel, some third party company) but that company never registered it. So in 2001 the copyright reverted back to Friedrich.

Ghost Rider, Box Office And Movie Critics

Ghost Rider, Box Office And Movie Critics

So despite a drubbing from movie critics across the board (currently standing at a whopping 26% at RottenTomatoes.com), Ghost Rider did great at the box office this four-day weekend. According to an interview by Comics Continuum, Mark Steven Johnson, writer/director of Ghost Rider said:

“As expected, we were trounced by the critics, but the word of mouth on the film has been very good and gave us a bump up from Friday to Saturday, something uncommon for these kinds of flicks,”

Now I realize that there are movie critics out there that are “Ivory Tower” types, and write reviews that want to deeply analyze the existential angst of the characters or whatever. But there are plenty out there that are just regular people who want to see good movies regardless of the genre, and I fall into that category. Someone here remarked that they knew that I’d “poo-poo” (poo-poo?) Ghost Rider, implying that I’m some sort of person who views movies from an elitist perspective. Considering some of the movies I know this person likes, I had to take his comments with a grain of salt, but they still pissed me off.
