David Goyer: Ghost Rider Sequel Not a Reboot

David Goyer: Ghost Rider Sequel Not a Reboot

The sequel to Ghost Rider is going to happen. Just deal with the reality and move on. You can whine all you want about how poorly done the first one was, in acting, script and direction, but that won’t change the fact the Ghost Rider 2 is on its way like a flame- skulled demon riding a motorcycle. All that fan boys can hope for now is a faithful retelling of the popular second tier Marvel/Disney property. I’m just hoping for a story that doesn’t include a flaming skeleton horse.

Last month, David Goyer (Super Max, FlashForward), who is producing his half a score old script (that’s ten years for you non-math majors), talked about his story a bit and confirmed he was attached to the project. Today, MTV has an interview with Goyer and addressed concerns about the sequel pulling off a PG-13 rating. So will it or won’t it be a reboot?

First Details of the Ghost Rider 2 Script

First Details of the Ghost Rider 2 Script

We recently reported that Columbia Pictures is moving forward with Ghost Rider 2 (much to my chagrin). In that post, we also told you that the studio was tapping David S. Goyer (Batman Begins) to write the story for Ghost Rider 2, based on a script he wrote for the character nine years ago, which never made it into theaters.

Now comes word that Goyer WILL be writing (and producing) Ghost Rider 2, and Collider recently interviewed the man himself and got some details on what his nearly decade-old script was all about. Of course, there are copies and reviews of that script still floating around online (check IGN), but nine years is a long time, so a current update is more than welcome.

Ghost Rider 2 Gearing Up For Production

Ghost Rider 2 Gearing Up For Production

Variety is reporting that Columbia Pictures is gearing up to get Ghost Rider 2 in theaters, pushing for Batman Begins writer David S. Goyer to script the sequel to the 2007 Nicholas Cage-starring film. Speaking of Cage, he is expected (but not confirmed) to return for the sequel, having already proclaimed his desire to do so.

Though Goyer has yet to sign-on officially, word is that the next Ghost Rider will be based on a script that Goyer wrote years ago for the character. Details are sketchy on what that script involves, or whether or not Ghost Rider 2 will be an actual sequel to the 2007 film, or more akin to the quasi-reboot Cage described earlier this year.

Nicolas Cage Talks Ghost Rider 2

Way back in January, Screen Rant reported that Columbia Pictures was preparing a sequel to the Marvel-based Nicolas Cage-starrer, Ghost Rider.

I was not impressed.

Now, Mr. Cage is talking about what he’d like to see from the next installment: A reboot of sorts.

Oh No… Ghost Rider 2 Is Coming – With Nicolas Cage

Oh No… Ghost Rider 2 Is Coming – With Nicolas Cage

I’ll start by saying Ghost Rider is on my list of worst movies ever – so let’s just say I’m not looking forward to another one. There are a lot of things I want to say about the first one, but it would take a long time to read and it wouldn’t be fun to write.

It has been rumored for quite a while that there would be a sequel after the first Ghost Rider made over $225 Million in worldwide box office sales despite very negative reviews.

Well now it has been confirmed that Columbia pictures is in fact getting writers to pen the sequel and that Nicolas Cage is signed on to return.

Yay…

My hope is that moviegoers everywhere have learned their lesson from the first.

What do you think of a sequel and Cage returning to play the Johnny Blaze?

Nicolas Cage Talks Ghost Rider 2 and Kick-Ass

Nicolas Cage Talks Ghost Rider 2 and Kick-Ass

Nicolas Cage – love him or loathe him, you have to admire the man’s work ethic. He makes movies like they are going out of fashion, and while they may not always find an audience, they do show an actor who likes to try different material. No matter how crazy it may appear on paper (or on screen for that matter).

Cage has been doing the press rounds for Bangkok Dangerous and he has been spilling the beans on some of his forthcoming comic book movies: Ghost Rider 2 and Kick-Ass.
