Following the surprising success of this summer’s Get Smart, Warner Bros. is developing a sequel to the film and has signed a three-year first-look deal with its star, Steve Carell. I would assume that the movie wouldn’t move forward without some sort of similar agreement with the most gorgeous Anne Hathaway.

Short version: Get Smart manages to combine slapstick, wit, action, and a bit of romance in a package that will leave you smiling even after you leave the theater.

Well I’ll be damned.

Based on the trailers and clips I’d seen, I wasn’t sure what sort of review I’d be giving Get Smart. Imagine my pleasant surprise as it opened with a laugh out loud scene and an extended nod to the original series that felt more like tribute that rip-off. It wavers a bit upon take off but once it gets going Get Smart delivers a great and fun ride.

Now I don’t know what the heck happened with the first trailer for Get Smart, starring two very funny people: Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway, but I thought it was drop dead not funny. Not even a slight grin crossed my lips while watching it and I thought the movie was going to be a HUGE misfire.

So imagine my surprise when at WonderCon I had the chance to see the second trailer for the film and the damned thing was funny from start to finish.
