DVD/Blu-ray Breakdown: Sept. 28, 2010

The next few weeks will comprise one of the best runs in home video release history. Some of the most long-awaited titles finally reach the Blu-ray format, while this year’s summer hits make their way to home video.

The Thin Red Line is this week’s long overdue classic making its way to Blu-ray, but some would argue that the 1933 King Kong is the more intriguing Blu-ray transfer.

The superhero genre has another recent hit to add to home collections with Iron Man 2, but Superman and Batman have teamed up to battle Tony Stark in a home video matchup. A straight comedy and a hardcore dramatic thriller follow the big names in a well-rounded week of releases.

Screen Rant‘s Kofi Outlaw reviews Get Him to the Greek

By now we all know the formula behind a Judd Apatow comedy pretty well, and there are very few departures from it in Get Him to the Greek. Actually, there’s only one surprise, really, and believe it or not, it involves the words “best performance” and “P. Diddy” in one sentence. But more on that later.

Get Him to the Greek, if you don’t already know, is a spin-off of the 2008 “Camp Apatow” comedy, Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Greek finds Russell Brand reprising his scene-stealing turn as vain rocker Aldous Snow, who is now a crashed and burned-out version of the pretentiously sober yoga-addict we saw in Sarah Marshall.

‘Get Him To The Greek’ Red-Band Trailer

The upcoming Jonah Hill/Russell Brand comedy, Get Him To The Greek, hits theaters this summer and now we’re getting a good look at it with the latest red-band trailer.

The existence of red-bands is the best thing to happen to comedy films in a long time. Where a movie might look okay for the mass audiences, red-bands highlight its real essence; raunchy, vile, no-good dirty comedy. And that’s what we love about them.

Get Him To The Greek stars Jonah Hill as a record company intern hired to escort cliche-heavy rocker Aldous Snow (Brand) to his concert at The Greek Theater in L.A. Zac Efron might be 17 Again but he’s also No.1 at the box office; Reese Witherspoon is Nice; Sean “Diddy” Combs goes Greek; Stephen Dorff and Elle Fanning go Somwhere for Sofia Coppola; Felicity Jones is a woman in Ricky Gervais’ The Men At The Pru and Brotherhood‘s Blake Masters fires 2 Guns for Universal Pictures.

Zac Efron is a movie star. The High School Musical star’s role in 17 Again helped the film make $24 million over the weekend. The body swap comedy also stars Friends‘ Matthew Perry as an older Efron. Poor guy - a decade ago he was headlining (mediocre) romantic comedies and now he’s supporting a tween star.
