2009 Scream Award Nominations

The nominees have been announced for the fourth annual Scream Awards, held every year by Spike TV. The decisively more “fan-friendly” award ceremony (compared to the Oscars) honors films from the sci-fi, fantasy, horror and comic-book genres of movies, TV shows and comic books. The awards are described as, “the first and only global event of its kind,” to honor those genres.

The Scream 2009 nominees were chosen by the Advisory Board of Hollywood and Genre Leaders, a list which this year includes the likes of Wes Craven, Roland Emmerich, Neil Gaiman, Frank Miller, Eli Roth and Zack Snyder, plus many more. The event will be taped on Saturday, October 17th this year at The Greek Theater in Los Angeles, and will air on Spike TV ten days later on Tuesday, October 27th (check for local times).

Along with the awards, the show will also be airing some exclusive, world premiere of footage of some of the most anticipated movies of 2010! Presenters and musicians for the event are to be announced shortly.

Friday The 13th ‘Follow Up’ On The Way

Friday The 13th ‘Follow Up’ On The Way

Having hacked and slashed his way to a $70 million worldwide payday, it seems as though Jason Voorhees has made a bigger comeback than Mickey Rourke.

Now as we all know, in the world of Hollywood horror movies, a strong box office take is almost always a go-sign for a string of increasingly terrible sequels (cough, Saw, cough).  Friday The 13th, it seems, is no exception (even though it suffered a brutal 80% drop on its second weekend).

Friday The 13th Review

Short version: This fresh take on the original Friday the 13th actually works.

Screen Rant reviews Friday the 13th

This review of Friday the 13th is for people who are fans of the 1980s style of slasher horror movies.

If you are not into movies whose sole purpose is to display gore, a variety of ways to kill people (who you probably wouldn’t mind seeing come to a grisly end), sex and nudity via thinly developed characters, then move along folks – nothing to see here.

If however you’re looking for an R-rated horror thrill on the big screen, read on.

Friday The 13th Remake Non-News

Friday The 13th Remake Non-News

For some reason, today it’s being reported by Shocktillyoudrop that the upcoming, new Friday the 13th movie is not a remake of the original. I’m calling this non-news and saying “for some reason” because I said here on Screen Rant almost 2 months ago that this new version was not a remake of the original 1980 film.

Everyone else was calling it a remake when the project was announced, but no one seemed to remember that Jason Voorhees, the hockey mask wearing villain of the series didn’t even appear in the first film, except as a child in a flashback scene. His mother was the killer in the first movie.

Friday The 13th Remake: Unlucky For Us?

Friday The 13th Remake: Unlucky For Us?

Marcus Nispel is in final negotiations to direct the Platinum Dunes remake of Friday The 13th.

So who is Marcus Nispel? Nispel has directed dozens of music videos as well as being the man behind the megaphone on features The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (the remake, not the original) and Pathfinder (again, the remake not the original).

The news will probably have fanboys across the net up in arms, but let’s be honest, his remake of Chainsaw was much better than anybody had anticipated. It’s far from great, but compared to the horror remakes of the last few years, it looks like Citizen Kane. On the other hand Pathfinder took a brutal beating both at the box office and by critics, earning less than it’s production cost even including overseas box office and garnering a 12% positive rating over at Rotten Tomatoes.

Friday The 13th Part 2 Remake Moving Forward

Friday The 13th Part 2 Remake Moving Forward

What could be more appropriate now that we’re in October than horror movie news?

And yes, that’s right, I said a remake of the second, not the first, Friday the 13th movie.

New Line studio has put writers Damian Shannon and Mark Swift on the job. These are the same guys who wrote the entertaining, if not definitive in conclusion Freddy vs Jason movie.

Everyone else is calling this a remake of the original film, but it’s not.
