Find out who took home the Emmys in comedy, drama, reality/variety and miniseries/movies with our winners list of the 2011 Primetime Emmy Awards.

When Jane Lynch took the stage for The 63rd Emmy Awards after a chaotic opening number, one should have known that the night will be filled with some surprising winners being announced.

After Modern Family practically swept the awards in comedy, with wins in all but two categories, it was on to reality/variety. Once again, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart took home the coveted awards in this category, but not without The Amazing Race and Saturday Night Live each picking up a single award.

A turn to television’s drama series brought about three of the most deserved wins at this year’s awards, with Kyle Chandler winning Friday Night Lights, Margo Martindale winning for Justified and Peter Dinklage winning for Game of Thrones. Martin Scorsese also took home his ...

Click to continue reading The 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards: Winners List

Television’s busiest number-crunchers at TV by the Numbers have released their list of the most-recorded shows in America, with ABC’s Modern Family leading the pack. Shows like House, The Event and Supernatural got a significant bump in addition to first-run ratings.

Recorded episodes are making up a bigger and bigger chunk of the television audience, and the trend has been consistent for the 2010-1011 season.

For example, Modern Family scored an average of 11.2 million viewers for every live episode, plus 3.5 million DVR viewers – a whopping 31% increase.

The landscape of television continues to shift as more and more homes are equipped with place-shifting DVRs.
Last night the finale of Smallville‘s ten-season run scored a major upswing in the ratings. The episode secured almost three million viewers, with an even better boost in the demographic score.

Smallville‘s total viewership was 2.97 million, up an impressive 49% from the last episode and matching the season premiere. The surge was the most the series has seen since October, when the 200th episode Homecoming drew in crowds of 3.2 million to see the return of Kristen Kreuk and Allison Mack.

But even more impressive was Smallville‘s jump in the prime 18-49 demographic. The show’s target viewers jumped 63% for a 1.3 rating in the prime demo, some of the best numbers all season.

David O. Russell is seemingly determined to expand his repertoire as an artist, seeing that he has a video game adaptation (Uncharted) and a comic book movie (2 Guns) on his current to-do list, and is now lending his talents to TV by creating a new drama for cable channel FX as well.

Little is known about Russell’s reportedly female-driven television series, but it has already managed to secure a leading lady in the form of Emmy-winning Friday Night Lights actress Connie Britton.

Britton is well versed in the world of acclaimed TV programming, as her resume also includes a recurring role on Spin City and significant stints on shows like The West Wing and 24 – before she became known for playing Dillion High guidance counselor-turned principal and wife to Panthers’ coach Eric ...

Click to continue reading David O.
Tonight, fans of the critically acclaimed series Friday Nights Lights must begin to say their goodbyes to Coach Taylor, Tami, Julie, Matt, Landry, East Dillon High and the many others characters that we’ve come to know over the years. Tonight’s season 5 premiere marks the beginning of the end. Fortunately, there are still thirteen episodes of these terrific characters and wonderful, engaging storylines to take in before this series officially comes to an end.

At the end of season 4, chaos ensued: Tami set herself up as a prospective counselor at East Dillon High, Matt & Julie realize that they now live in two different worlds and Tim Riggins went to prison, in order to cover for his brother. If anything, season 5 certainly has enough jumping off points to being their final journey. Let’s just hope ...

Click to continue reading ‘Friday Night Lights’ Season 5 Premiere Review & Discussion

NBC’s new web series FCU: Fact Checkers Unit follows dedicated celebrity fact checkers, Russell (Peter Karinen) and Dylan (Brian Sacca), as they will go to any lengths to make sure that every fact printed in the show’s fictional publication, “Dictum Magazine,” is indeed true.

The FCU: Fact Checkers web series is based on Karinen and Sacca’s hit short film of the same name, which became a hit at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival.
NBC has announced that its Emmy-winning Friday Night Lights will return on May 7th. For those of you who’ve been paying close attention, the series was originally set to return April 30.

Thanks to Deadline for calling this one in from the booth. NBC will be airing the show on, you guessed it, Friday nights from 8-9pm. I’m looking forward to the return of the Taylors (played by Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton), one of the most honest, interesting couples on TV. No official word on why the start date was pushed back a week.

Scene Source tells us that the fourth season of FNL has already aired on DirectTV, so you serious fans out there might want to think long and hard about that after the NBC fumble.

While we’re nowhere near the new fall season and most pilots have yet to be filmed, the networks are already looking at their current lineup to see where they can trim the fat. While most decisions have to be finalized, people talk, news is announced and assumptions can be made.

Some shows are no-brainers to renew (House), while others have already been canceled… and then there are the shows that sit on the fence; ones that are referred to in the industry as “being on the bubble.” Today we have an update on the status of some of those “bubble” shows.

With such a long list of shows, let’s stop with all the small-talk and get right to it. What’s the fate of your favorite show?

As usual, I have a ratings recap at the bottom, but it’s the Summer Lite edition being as how we’re in repeat mode for the Summer (except for the reality drabble that is intertwined throughout the chart).

Let’s “git ‘er done“, shall we?

Stargate Universe

Stargate Universe is looking to cast a “name actress” to play the wife of Robert Carlyle’s character.

These will be flashback scenes since she will be dead by the time we see her.

Welcome to my corner of Thursdays where we get to chat about some of the other goings on from the world of (soon to be totally digital) TV.

This week, we take a look at some noise about Chuck, news about some Dexter casting, the premiere date for Eureka on Sci-Fi (SyFy) and why Eleventh Hour got dumped.

While we’re at it, I also chat about TNT ordering it’s own version of V, Doctor Who guest starring in The Sarah Jane Adventures, and if there are any Gigantor fans out there, I’ve got a bit of news for you.

And of course, at the end of the article, I entice you with a ratings chart showing how our favored shows did last week.

Curious Tidbit About Chuck

Despite the lengthy wait from NBC to actually commit to Chuck, NBC entertainment president Ben Silverman is ...

Click to continue reading Weekly TV Wrap Up – May 28th, 2009

It’s been an interesting week indeed. Today I bring some DVD news about Star Trek: TOS, Pushing Daisies, Ugly Betty, Breaking Bad and Friday Night Lights. It’s all good!

I’ve also have a couple of bits of business news about Disney and its slow, creeping take over of the entertainment world!

REMINDER: Don’t forget, Friday night on The Sci-Fi Channel: Stargate Continuum. It’s a great movie. Vic and I saw it last year with the cast of the show. There was a great time had by all.

Let’s start the show with the numbers from the last week of television viewing:

Since many of you said you were interested in numbers for a lot of shows, well, I slapped in a lot of show! As you can see, American Idol trumped everyone yet again. The first non-reality show, The Mentalist, was third on the list and then the shows scatter throughout ...

Click to continue reading Weekly TV Wrap Up – April 2nd, 2009

It’s another week and another Wrap Up article. I have a lot going on this week, so scroll slowly and keep your eye out for your favorite show! There is a cast note on Burn Notice, that I don’t believe is a spoiler, but now that I’m shell shocked, well, there you have it! Let’s get the ball rolling, shall we?

Battlestar Galactica

This week is the finale for Battlestar Galactica. The series finale that is. It’s been quite the journey and I believe, if all the hype is correct, a fruitful ending. We shall see.

The finale is a 2-hour episode. Prior to that, last weeks episode airs and The Sci-Fi Channel advertised a Battlestar Galactica Marathon for Friday.

Two And A Half Men & Big Bang

Both Two and Half Men and The Big Bang Theory were renewed. The big thing ...

Click to continue reading Weekly TV Wrap Up – March 19th, 2009
