ABC has announced a round of cancelations in preparation for their fall line-up, revealing a number of not-so surprising cuts, as well as crowning their pick for sci-fi spiritual successor to LOST – renewing alien invasion drama V and canceling FlashForward.

Other shows that won’t be receiving another season include Romantically Challenged, as well as Better Off Ted and the near-to-death Scrubs – receiving it’s final deathblow.

It’s a thorough house-cleaning. Obviously, it’s sad to see a few of the names on this list, though none of them come as a huge surprise. FlashForward was originally expected to carry the LOST audience (after the show takes its final bow on May 23rd) and, though the show started off with a bang, the overly-complicated plot and (mostly) unlikable characters resulted in a ratings free-fall. Despite a number ...

Click to continue reading ABC Cancels FlashForward, Renews ‘V’

It's time of the year again. Clear your schedule and get your DVR primed because May is the month of TV show finale's. Check out all the dates and times inside.

It’s that time of the year when we must once again bid adieu, albeit temporarily (except for Lost, which is gone forever), to our favorite television shows. Over the next four weeks, over 60 shows will be on hiatus until this fall.

While that means your summer viewing schedule will be completely open, you better get your DVR’s ready, because the month of May is going test your television watching ability.

Luckily, Entertainment Weekly has helped put some order to all this television madness by putting together a comprehensive list of all the upcoming season/series finales.

Check out the list below to see when your favorite TV show finale airs. While you’re at it, you better check it twice because there are many overlapping finales. For instance, the two-hour series finale of Lost is on at the same ...

Click to continue reading Complete Guide To 2010 TV Season/Series Finales

Will tonight's return of ABC's 'V' be the final nail in the coffin for the struggling 'FlashForward' or will it be the Visitors that will be exterminated?

Tonight will see the return of the ABC’s alien-centric drama, V. After four months of being off the air, viewers will finally witness the battle between the Visitors and the Visitor Resistance start taking shape as the V’s take the offense.

Will tonight’s return prove to the network and viewers both that V is a show worth watching?

The episode, entitled “Welcome to the War”, will find Erica (Elizabeth Mitchell) having to watch her back both at work and at home as a Visitor comes to kill her. Anna (Morena Baccarin) will send her lap dog Michael (Christopher Shyer) to the FBI, where he’s all too happy to provide them with information as to who was behind the warehouse explosion that destroyed their R6 compound.

With another cast member signing on for a fall pilot, is the end of 'FlashForward' approaching faster than people think?

If only the blackout that happened on FlashForward were real, everyone would have seen this coming. Alas!

It’s looking increasingly likely that season one of the tinkered-to-death ABC series will be its only season. According to E! Online, actress Christine Woods (who plays FBI agent/mother-to-be Janet) has been cast as the lead the NBC comedy pilot, Perfect Couples.

This announcement comes on the heels of actors Ryan Wynott (the youngster Dylan) and Zachary Knighton (Bryce) booking fall television pilots as well, meaning the writing might be on the wall around the FlashForward set.

Of course, this doesn’t necessarily mean that FlashForward is doomed to join Invasion on the list of failed Lost rip-off series; E! Online quoted a “source” as saying that the new roles will remain “in second position until there’s official word of a pickup.” But considering that ...

Click to continue reading Rumor Patrol: Will ‘FlashForward’ Go Dark?

Despite being one of the best episodes of the entire season, ABC’s two-hour return of FlashForward was down 10% in the ratings from the last original episode that aired in December – making it the lowest rated episode since the series began in September.

With 6.6 million people tuning in for the spring premiere, FlashForward is almost to the point where they’re garnering only half of the 12.5 million people that tuned in for the series premiere. As each subsequent episode steadily declines in the ratings, I’m not sure how much longer ABC will wait before they pull the plug on the series.

Before you decide to crucify ABC for pitting FlashForward up against the NCAA playoffs, remember this; if they would have waited another week to bring back FlashForward, it would have been up against new episodes of all ...

Click to continue reading ‘FlashForward’ Returns To All-Time Ratings Low

After four months, ABC’s Lost-esque drama FlashForward finally makes its way back on the air. With production being halted, losing both original showrunners and their episode order cut by one, we’re finally able to see what the now-retooled series has in store for us.

When we last left the show, Demetri Noh (John Cho) finds out that Mark Benford (Joseph Fiennes) is the one that will kill him, Lloyd Simcoe (Jack Davenport) and Simon Campos (Dominic Monaghan) announced to the world that they were the reason for the blackouts and consequently results in an abduction attempt that leaves Benford’s wife, Olivia (Sonya Walger), battered and bruised with Simcoe taken away.

Those of you looking for your fill of TV news might want to check out this latest item, a video interview with Dominic Monaghan about two shows he stars in: FlashForward and Lost.

If, like me, you’re still sticking with ABC’s Lost-esque show FlashForward, then you were probably left pretty annoyed when the show went off the air for a break at the end of November. To add insult to injury, they extended the length of the hiatus and it finally returns in a few days, almost four months after it went off air.

Nonetheless, FlashForward is back this week and Monaghan talks to Collider about such things as how big of a part his character will have when the show returns and how much he knows about this season’s finale.
While we’re nowhere near the new fall season and most pilots have yet to be filmed, the networks are already looking at their current lineup to see where they can trim the fat. While most decisions have to be finalized, people talk, news is announced and assumptions can be made.

Some shows are no-brainers to renew (House), while others have already been canceled… and then there are the shows that sit on the fence; ones that are referred to in the industry as “being on the bubble.” Today we have an update on the status of some of those “bubble” shows.

With such a long list of shows, let’s stop with all the small-talk and get right to it. What’s the fate of your favorite show?

Three days ago we brought you the news that David Goyer is leaving FlashForward and today it looks like the powers that be are making it harder for the freshman series to lose anymore showrunners, as they’ve named three new ones to replace Goyer. Head writers Lisa Zwerling and Tim Lea, along with executive producer Jessika Borsiczky, have all been promoted to the showrunner position.

If we’re going to continue to talk about showrunners, especially if FlashForward continues to lose them, I figured that it would be nice to define it because I’m sure not everyone is up on TV lingo.

Wikipedia describes the term “showrunner” as,

…a term used in the Canadian and United States television industry referring to the person who is responsible for the day-to-day operation of a television series.

Over the few months we’ve been sharing some wicked minimalist posters, such as the movies of Quentin Tarantino and the various Star Wars movies. Today we continue highlighting these posters by showcasing a few based on some of the most popular TV shows out there.

Long time readers of Screen Rant might remember a few of these posters from our editor Rob Keyes’ regular Poster Friday articles, but since “major sites” are now reporting on them like they’re new or something, we thought we’d offer you a few more.

There’s literally dozens of these posters by artist Albert Exergian but we’ve chosen just a handful either for how clever/cool looking they are or because the shows are of particular interest to our readers. We’ve chosen posters for True Blood, Heroes, ...

Click to continue reading SR Pick: Minimalist TV Show Posters

Things haven’t been going as well as hoped with ABC’s Lost-esque mystery series, Flashforward. It debuted to 12-plus million viewers but has since dropped to half that number. I guess it was the initial curiosity of “How and why does everyone in the world black out at the same time?” that made people watch and then half of the audience fell away when it failed to live up to initial premise.

For those still sticking with the show (like me) some sad and rather annoying news dropped a while ago that production was halted and then we found out the show won’t be coming back on until March 18th this year. That’s an almost four months wait after a fairly big cliff-hanger (watchers of the show will know what I’m referring to).

So Back in October we let you know that Hulu was looking for ways to charge users for the service. Then a lot of people got up in arms, swearing to drop Hulu like a bad habit. So then The Hulu execs recounted the statement, saying all was well and their service would remain free.

However, I didn’t believe that and neither did many of you. After all, who gives anything away for free these days? Well, The LA Times says we were right to be skeptical, because Hulu is apparently still working on a ways to implement a fee-based service without losing users.

The latest scheme game plan involves taking Hulu’s current interface – where you can watch 3-5 of the most ...

Click to continue reading Hulu Is Still Trying To Make You Pay

With FlashForward and V not doing as well in the ratings as ABC had hyped / hoped for, some were worried about their futures.

Rest assured that ABC is committed to the new shows… just not fully committed.

As the shows line up to return from their breaks, each show is now less one episode than the original tally of episodes slated to be filmed. This means that when they return from their mid-season breaks, V will only have 8 new episodes and FlashForward will have 14 episodes.

It’s nice to see that for the moment, ABC is backing their shows. I can only hope they stick to this plan as March approaches.

What Is Up With Mid-Season Breaks?

As the weeks pass and news continues to roll in about the ABC drama, FlashForward, it becomes harder to imagine those 137 seconds seen by folks around the world from April 29th, 2010 coming to fruition. Today we can add more bad news to the ever-growing pile, as production on the freshman series has been shut down.

Fans need not worry, as this break in production is not permanent. “How not permanent” you ask? Well, production is already scheduled to resume on Monday. Still, the question needs to be asked; what’s the reasoning behind the break, even if it is short?

If you listen to ABC, they’ll happily tell you that everything is going according to plan and that the production schedule was designed for such breaks.

With November sweeps and the World Series both starting last week, it causes a strange effect in television ratings. While November sweeps is supposed to bring in high ratings, the World Series always cuts into their usual audience as we’re seeing with ABC’s much touted drama, FlashForward. The new series created by David S. Goyer and Brannon Braga saw its lowest ratings last week and conversly, this past week Smallville saw their highest ratings since the ninth season began.

Still, can the World Series really account for all these ratings fluctuations? As a fan of Smallville, I make sure to always tune in, but even with the show being able to pull in 2.6 million viewers; it’s still down over 1 million viewers from last season.
ABC’s new Lost-esque mystery TV series, FlashForward – about a global blackout lasting 2 minutes and 17 seconds, in which time the entire human race gets a vision of their future six months ahead – has been impressive so far. The initial high concept is a whopper, enough (evidently) to bring in 12.4 million viewers for its pilot last month. And ABC is obviously confident in the series with the recent news that it has (thankfully) been picked up for a full first season.

Oh, if only things were as rosy as the ratings make them look… But don’t worry, FlashFoward hasn’t been suddenly canceled or anything of that sort!
