The nominations are out for the 36th Annual Saturn Awards and predictably movies like Avatar, Inglourious Basterds and The Hurt Locker lead the way. Read on to find out the full list

Today marks the day when the nominations for the 36th Annual Saturn Awards are given out. In case you’re not familiar with them, they are given out by The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films (they also include TV shows and stage productions) so as a reader of Screen Rant I believe they’re right up your alley .

The awards will be given out on June 24th, so we have over four months to speculate and choose the nominees we’d give the award to. The categories range from the usual Best Film (separated into Fantasy, Horror, Science Fiction etc) to Best DVD release and Best DVD Special Edition.

Keeping in line with all of the rest of the major awards, films like Avatar, The Hurt Locker and Inglourious Basterds have ...

Click to continue reading Avatar Leads 2010 Saturn Awards Nominations

I am not a Wes Anderson fan. Rushmore didn’t make me swoon; The Royal Tenenbaums made me groan; The Life Aquatic was no “masterpiece” far as I could tell and I didn’t even bother with The Darjeeling Limited. In fact, everything Anderson has done after Bottle Rocket has ultimately fallen on my cinematic bad side. Hearing his name brought up in classrooms and discussed as if he is the Shakespeare of cinema has only compounded that antagonism. If we were to play the word association game and you said “Wes Anderson” my immediate response would likely be “Pretentious and overrated.”

A brand new Fantastic Mr. Fox trailer has been released, and it looks great! In case you were complaining about the last one, this feels like a “real” movie trailer. There’s also a new featurette about the film and both are getting me more excited about the upcoming movie!

The new preview features a whole lot more information about the story, which is based on Roald Dahl’s classic tale that co-writer/director Wes Anderson (Rushmore) fell in love with as a kid. It gives us even more funny and touching moments than the first Fantastic Mr. Fox trailer.

A small featurette about the making of Fantastic Mr. Fox has debuted online, giving us some clues as to how director Wes Anderson (Rushmore) and his crew used old-school stop-motion animation to bring the Roald Dahl classic to life.

This is more cool promotion to help make audiences aware of the film, opening in just two months on November 13, 2009. Take a look at the featurette, which was narrated by actor Jason Schwartzman, who plays Ash, the son of Mr. Fox (played by George Clooney).

I think it’s pretty cool and really shows Anderson taking his usual hands-on approach to directing. Some of the things that really stood out for me, beside the old-school style of filmmaking, was seeing the actors do all their voices “in ...

Click to continue reading Fantastic Mr. Fox Featurette

They’ve finally released the trailer for Fantastic Mr. Fox, director Wes Anderson’s adaptation of Roald Dahl’s classic story, and Anderson’s first full foray into stop-motion animation. Previously, his film The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou featured a bit of stop-motion work.

Anyway, I just watched the trailer and I have to say that I’m not blown away by it. This isn’t that great of a trailer, though I will never hang a movie from the gallows based on a bad trailer. But it does make me wonder: If a viewer goes into this cold, without knowing much of Anderson’s work, what would they think? At any rate, you can see some “Anderson trademarks” displayed in this film. I’ll talk about them after you watch the trailer:

Searchlight has had a recent string of hits including, Napoleon Dynamite, Juno, The Wrestler and this year’s Oscar powerhouse Slumdog Millionaire, so this could turn out to be a very shrewd move for the studio and the filmmakers. It also gives audiences a chance to see what the directors and producers can do on their own without a lot of meddling by Fox, which takes a more “hands off” approach with Searchlight.

Fantastic Mr. Fox is based on the novel of same name, written by Roald Dahl and directed by Wes Anderson. Dahl also wrote the classic ...

Click to continue reading Fox Searchlight To Distribute Fantastic Mr. Fox
