Fantastic Mr. Fox Featurette

A small featurette about the making of Fantastic Mr. Fox has debuted online, giving us some clues as to how director Wes Anderson (Rushmore) and his crew used old-school stop-motion animation to bring the Roald Dahl classic to life.

This is more cool promotion to help make audiences aware of the film, opening in just two months on November 13, 2009.  Take a look at the featurette, which was narrated by actor Jason Schwartzman, who plays Ash, the son of Mr. Fox (played by George Clooney).

Wes Anderson’s ‘Fantastic Mr. Fox’ Trailer

Wes Anderson’s ‘Fantastic Mr. Fox’ Trailer

They’ve finally released the trailer for Fantastic Mr. Fox, director Wes Anderson’s adaptation of Roald Dahl’s classic story, and Anderson’s first full foray into stop-motion animation.  Previously, his film The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou featured a bit of stop-motion work.

Anyway, I just watched the trailer and I have to say that I’m not blown away by it.  This isn’t that great of a trailer, though I will never hang a movie from the gallows based on a bad trailer.  But it does make me wonder: If a viewer goes into this cold, without knowing much of Anderson’s work, what would they think?  At any rate, you can see some “Anderson trademarks” displayed in this film.  I’ll talk about them after you watch the trailer:

Fox Searchlight To Distribute Fantastic Mr. Fox

Fox Searchlight To Distribute Fantastic Mr. Fox

20th Century Fox hasn’t been very fortunate in the past few years with its theatrical releases (X-men 3, anyone?), which is why they may have decided to release the animated film Fantastic Mr. Fox under their indie division Fox Searchlight.

Searchlight has had a recent string of hits including, Napoleon Dynamite, Juno, The Wrestler and this year’s Oscar powerhouse Slumdog Millionaire, so this could turn out to be a very shrewd move for the studio and the filmmakers. It also gives audiences a chance to see what the directors and producers can do on their own without a lot of meddling by Fox, which takes a more “hands off” approach with Searchlight.
