Josh Trank (the upcoming 'Chronicle') is a strong possibility to direct 20th Century Fox's reboot of the 'Fantastic Four' comic book movie franchise.

There’s been nothing substantial to report, with regards to the Fantastic Four franchise reboot, for almost fifteen months now. Even though the comic book project was originally announced back in early 2009 and reports about numerous big name celebrities being pursued to star in (or lend their voices to) the film began circulating in mid-2010, there’s been very little progress made on the project since.

Jump to the present and Oscar-winner Akiva Goldsman is no longer producing the FF reboot – though, that could be construed as a good thing, based on part of his history with comic book movies (he produced Jonah Hex and wrote Batman & Robin). There’s no word yet on who 20th Century Fox wants to recruit as a replacement producer, but there are new reports about a potential directorial candidate.

With the earth-shattering news last year of Disney acquiring Marvel, many wondered what opportunities such a merger would open doors to for the powerhouse comic publisher. Disney’s empire spans across many mediums including that of television with networks such as ABC for which the Marvel brand could – and will – take advantage of.

Earlier this summer, Marvel Entertainment launched a new division specific to television to be headed up by comic industry veteran Jeph Loeb and Marvel exec Dan Buckly. The new division would handle projects such as cartoons, straight-to-DVD features and what everyone would love to see one day, live-action Marvel television programs.

Twentieth Century Fox is pursuing the big voices of Bruce Willis and Kiefer Sutherland to play The Thing in the next Fantastic Four.

During Comic-Con back in July we found out that one member of the next Fantastic Four movie would be created on screen completely in CGI. I am of course referring to The Thing, or Ben Grimm as he used to be called before cosmic rays turned him into the lovable orange rock monster we now know him as.

While Twentieth Century Fox seeks out replacement actors to fill out the cast of the next Fantastic Four franchise installment, they’re looking for a different set of acting qualities in an actor who will play The Thing. Specifically, they need someone with star quality who has a commanding voice. If Fox has their wish, it could be either Bruce Willis or Kiefer Sutherland who brings the voice ...

Click to continue reading Kiefer Sutherland Also in Talks For The Thing in ‘Fantastic Four’

Twentieth Century Fox is hard at work laying the foundation and searching for the right pieces to put together the next installment of the Fantastic Four franchise. With X-Men: First Class entering production next week, the next Marvel superhero project for Fox will involve fast-tracking the quasi-reboot of one of Marvel’s most classic Silver Age comic series.

Last week I was informed that Fox was interested in Adrien Brody and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers for the role of Reed Richards aka Mr. Fantastic to help lead the project and team of superheroes and now comes word that Fantastic Four’s rival and main villain Dr. Doom could be played by True Blood star Stephen Moyer.

With Twentieth Century Fox about to start production on X-Men: First Class next week, their next Marvel film will be the reboot of Fantastic Four.
According to my sources, Fox is currently pursuing high caliber talent to play the man whose ability allows him to not only act as the local genius, but to be completely elastic.
Have you ever heard the name Cody Sousa? Yeah, me neither. That’s because he’s an actor who’s never really been in any major film productions (or even minor ones, far as I can tell). However, according to Mr. Sousa’s IMDb filmography, the young actor has some major films currently in production/development.

Yes, if the always-to-be-believed listings of IMDb are anything to go by [sarcasm alert!], then you could soon be seeing Cody Sousa starring in the likes of Nightmare on Elm Street 2 and World War Z – or as the titular hero in the big-screen adaptation of Johnny Quest. He’s also apparently been cast in prominent superhero roles such as Shazam! , the new Human Torch in Fantastic Four: Reborn ...

Click to continue reading Unknown Actor Listed as Robin In ‘Batman 3′, New Human Torch & More

Both Fantastic Four movies had a multitude of issues – direction, story, most of the special FX, lighting, blah, blah, blah – but the one thing (pun intended) I enjoyed the most was Michael Chiklis’ performance as The Thing. It was too bad that he was covered in orange foam and makeup for most of both movies because he is, in my opinion, a fantastic actor.

Personal issues with the films aside, the biggest problem came in the form of the suit Chiklis wore to play The Thing. The suit in and of itself was actually a very good special FX job and it made for a great practical effect. That problem is that it stood out when compared to the other three CG-heavy super powers on screen.

Marvel will oversee any future television projects that involve its many lucrative characters and franchises via a new division, which has been appropriately dubbed “Marvel Television.”

The top dog that will run this new section of Marvel Entertainment will be none other than Jeph Loeb, an Eisner award-winning graphic novelist who has left his mark on both the comic book and TV industries.

Dan Buckly – Marvel’s publisher and president of print, animation and digital division – will work with Loeb in the new TV division as well. The two will be involved in any animated or live-action TV projects that come to fruition in the future, as well as all direct-to-DVD ventures.

Marvel continues to shape itself into quite the entertainment powerhouse with this move, as several of its properties – Spider-Man and X-Men ...

Click to continue reading Jeph Loeb To Head Marvel Television Division

Walt Disney CEO Bob Iger let us know that Marvel characters will be appearing at Disney theme parks sometime in the future.

Do you remember that little news story last fall about some kiddie-friendly corporation called Disney buying the rights to Marvel, some sort of obscure entertainment body?

Well, one of the many big questions on most everybody’s mind after that financial dealing was how the citizens of the Marvel universe would fit into the world of Mickey Mouse and friends. Well, according to Walt Disney Company president/CEO Bob Iger, characters from the Fantastic Four could be just a few of the superheroes walking around the next time you visit one of the Mouse House’s amusement parks.

L.A. Times contributor Geoff Boucher caught up with Iger during a premiere event at Disney’s California Adventure theme park – which is right next to Disneyland – and got the following bit of information out of the top executive:

According to Aint It Cool, the new title for Die Hard 5 will be Die Hard 24/7 and the Fantastic Four reboot will be called Fantastic Four Reborn. This comes from one of their sources who is presumably inside or has connections at 20th Century Fox.

Truth be told, I can’t roll my eyes hard enough at both of those titles – especially Die Hard 24/7. However, there were an infinite number of titles being tossed around for Die Hard 4 before they settled on Live Free or Die Hard (or Die Hard 4.0 if you live outside of the U.S.), so I suspect this may not be the final word on the matter.

Working in the TV/Movie blog business, there’s one undeniable law you come to accept: Geeks are an obsessive bunch. No matter our own individual degrees of geekdom, at a certain point we’ve all stopped to stare at that other person who was WAY too into something – be it Star Trek or Star Wars or even that sports fanatic whose blood pressure is one scoreboard point away from going critical.

We all know about geek obsession – but what about geek denial? It’s not a topic you hear brought up very often, but geeks have powers of denial just as strong as their obsessive tendencies. And to prove this fact, we here at Screen Rant are prepared to delve into the deep, dark, realm of “Movies and TV Shows That Geeks Pretend Don’t ...

Click to continue reading Movies & TV Shows Geeks Pretend Don’t Exist

Screen Rant presents 30 minimalist superhero posters ranging from Batman, Superman & Iron Man to off-beat heroes like Gizmo Duck, Darkwing Duck & more.

We here at Screen Rant wanted to celebrate the upcoming summer movie season – particularly the release of Iron Man 2 – by taking an unconventional look at some of the most iconic superheroes in the entertainment industry.

Over the past few months, you may have caught some of our “SR Picks” which highlighted various artists’ interpretations of Quentin Tarantino films, Star Wars and popular television series. Today, we’re stepping out from solely presenting these wonderful posters and taking the initiative to create some of our own.

For the past three nights, I put my need for a good night’s sleep aside in order to present you, the reader, with literally dozens of superhero posters with a unique, minimalist twist.

Some may be more obvious than others, but hopefully you’ll have no problem identifying each and every comic-book icon represented.
We've gone through the history of superheroes on both the big screen & TV to compile for you the best & worst costume translations from comic book to live action.

If you want to be a superhero, then you have to dress like one – and to do that you’ll need the absolute necessities: Mask, cowl, cape, utility belt and a weapon and/or superpower. The everyday kid turned hero vigilante Kick-Ass knew this when he bought a neoprene bodysuit with yellow piping, a matching mask and two batons for weapons. It looks great on the page and the design team for the movie replicated it perfectly but… it doesn’t always work out that way.

Not every superhero outfit drawn in the pages of a comic book looks great on screen. Some can be replicated exactly from printed page to movie or TV set and look great with not a hint of cheese to be found. Others, not so lucky.

Should costume designers take extra liberty when replicating a superhero’s outfit, as they did with Elektra? She would have ...

Click to continue reading From Page to Screen: The 6 Best & Worst Superhero Costumes

When the comic industry was turned on its ear last year by the news the Disney had bought Marvel Comics to the tune of $4 billion dollars, fanboys everywhere immediately started panicking. “Marvel is going to suffer from this,” “Our heroes will no longer have blood and violence in them,” and “Marvel will no longer be dark and gritty!” I laughed those statements off thinking that Disney wouldn’t try to sanitize something they just paid obscene amounts of money for.

OK, so maybe I could be off the mark a bit. USA Today has a story up today with Marvel’s editor in chief Joe Quesada, where he talks about the future of Marvel’s characters and where comic fans can expect to see their favorite iconic heroes to go from here. Overall, it looks like the heroes are going ...

Click to continue reading Marvel’s ‘Heroic Age’: The Return of Role Models?

As the first decade of the new millennium comes to an end, we look back at the era that saw our favorite comic book heroes from the house of Stan Lee making the leap from the page to the silver screen.

To bring us a first-hand perspective of the Marvel movie experience, President of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige recounted the hard work and big payoffs that catapulted Marvel (and comic book movies on the whole) to the cinematic power horse it is today.

I’ve taken the liberty of cutting down Feige’s quotes to Marvel News down into some smaller snippets that should help spark fond feelings of comic book movie nostalgia:

[Update: Silver Surfer isn't as dead as first reported. See post for details.]

The last significant update we heard on the proposed Silver Surfer movie was last summer when director Alex Proyas said he’s definitely not working on the project, emphasizing that he’d never work with Fox studios again.

Since then, we have found out that Fox is pushing forward with the Fantastic Four reboot and that it would feature an entirely new cast. What does that mean for the Silver Surfer spin-off many were hoping for? Well, it’s unlikely to happen anytime soon.

Writer J. Michael Straczynski recently spoke with Collider last week and touched on the subject, saying that the not-so-hot reception to Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer made the studio put plans for the Silver ...

Click to continue reading Silver Surfer Movie (Sort of) Happening [Updated]

In a move the reeks of opportunism and greed, Jack Kirby’s Estate (a.k.a. his family) have hired Intellectual Property Lawyer Marc Toberoff to sue Disney/Marvel, Sony, Universal, 20th Century Fox and Paramount Pictures in an attempt to reclaim copyright ownership of the characters their late father Jacob Kurtzberg created. You may know his name better as Jack Kirby and you are most familiar with his iconic and highly popular comic book creations, The Fantastic Four, Captain America, the X-Men, Iron Man, Thor, The Hulk and The Silver Surfer.

Thanks to the guys over /Film for sharing this with us and to Rich Johnston at Bleeding Cool and Nikki Finke at Deadline Hollywod who seem to have gotten the drop on this breaking news.
There's a Fantastic Four reboot on the horizon - here are our picks for the new superhero team.

Ok so I had to redo this intro because as I was writing this MTV Splash Page happened to post (a day earlier than usual) their weekly fantasy casting column about…the Fantastic Four. My goal was to get this up today and scoop the usual Friday, blogosphere speculation fest… but C’est la vie.

Thankfully for me, Splash Page cast their Fantastic Four flick using a mostly older set of actors; I myself have been envisioning a more youthful (not too young, though) version of Fantastic Four. Check out what my vision for this upcoming reboot is, and who I picked to take on the roles of Marvel’s favorite superhero family.

Ok, so before we start I thought I’d talk a little bit about the Fantastic Four, as I have come to understand the characters ...

Click to continue reading Who Should Play The New Fantastic Four?

Back in March of this year, we reported on the possible reboot of the Fantastic Four franchise. Then, at the end of last month that rumor became a fact, as 20th Century Fox is, indeed, moving forward with a reboot of Fantastic Four.

As Screen Rant‘s Kofi Outlaw predicted back in March, a reboot should and will mean that the four actors who portrayed the titular superheroes in Fantastic Four and its sequel, Rise of the Silver Surfer, will be recast. Although it’s not been talked about/confirmed for Jessica Alba, Ioan Gruffudd or Michael Chiklis, today we get word that Chris Evans won’t be playing The Human Torch again in Fox’s Fantasic Four reboot.

Cinematical got a chance to ask Evans himself about the upcoming FF4 reboot, ...

Click to continue reading Chris Evans NOT In Fantastic Four Reboot
