Syfy Orders One More Episode of ‘Eureka’ – The Series Finale

Eureka fans have had a hard week, after being teased with a bogus six-episode order only to be told the series was cancelled a few days later.

It seems like Syfy has heard the hue and cry: they’re allowing the Eureka team to produce a final episode as a send-off for the series.

The news came as E! Online spoke with Eureka showrunner Jaime Paglia on a Vancouver set visit. The mood was somber given the recent news, but Paglia confirmed that executives at Syfy are allowing production of a single episode, serving as a finale for the five-year show.

“[The writers] have the opportunity to give us and the viewers closure—they’ve been loyal, loyal fans for years.” said Erica Cera, who’s played Deputy ...

‘Eureka’ Producers On Why The Show Was Canceled and How To End It

The news of Syfy canceling Eureka was a shock to everyone – especially to those who create the hit series. After briefly announcing that Syfy had ordered six episodes for Eureka season 6, plans at the network quickly changed and the series was unceremoniously given the axe.

We spoke with Eureka executive producer Bruce Miller a week before the cancelation was announced, and he showed no signs of the series being in trouble. In fact, Miller went as far as to highlight the fact that “we have a bigger audience now than we did in our first season.” This sentiment was certainly championed by co-executive producer Amy Berg following this week’s ratings – and the unfortunate news of the series being canceled.

Syfy Cancels ‘Eureka’ After Season 5

Despite the announcement that the network had ordered six episodes of a sixth season for Eureka, Syfy has apparently changed its mind, scrapping those plans and choosing instead to end the show with season 5.

Clearly, there was some debate over the future of Eureka – else the retraction of a shortened sixth season would never have taken place. However, the network seems adamant that the current decision will be the one they stick to.

Fans of the show will certainly be concerned that with the fifth (and now final) season already filming, Eureka‘s producers might find it difficult to wrap the series up in a way that will please the audience and creators alike.

Syfy Orders Six Episodes For Possible Final Season Of ‘Eureka’

The countdown may have begun for a mainstay of Syfy channel’s line up of original programming. The channel has ordered a round of episodes for the sixth season of Eureka, but the short order of six episodes has many thinking the show’s future may be in question.

After premiering the second half of Eureka’s fourth season to a respectable 2 million viewers last month, the quirky show starring Colin Ferguson and Salli Richardson-Whitfield is still a solid performer for the network. As a testament to the show’s continued popularity, Eureka is also sporting a bevy of geek-centric guest stars in the season’s remaining episodes – which should help keep ratings strong.

Comic-Con 2011 played host to a huge assortment of TV panels, most of which featured a teaser or trailer of some kind. If you couldn’t make it to San Diego (or were stuck in line with thousands of other convention attendees) you can catch up on the TV previews right here.

Shortly following the Eureka panel at Comic-Con, we spoke with Wheaton about his feelings towards online piracy, content availability and what the entertainment industry is going to do about it. As expected, Wheaton revealed his honest feelings about online piracy – including the fact that the entertainment industry is to blame for it in the first place.

Syfy’s MENSA-candidate show Eureka is currently in the second half of its fourth season, and fans of the show can check out the Eureka panel at the 2011 San Diego Comic-Con. If you can’t make it, Screen Rant is on hand with all the live news.

Felicia Day, Wil Wheaton & Stan Lee Guest Star On ‘Eureka’ Season 4.5

Syfy’s Eureka has always been a hotbed of geeky activity, and the trend will continue this summer. Gamer girl Felicia Day, star trekker Wil Wheaton and comic book legend Stan Lee will all make an appearance in the second half of the show’s fourth season.

Eureka returns to Syfy on July 11th, over six months after its mid-season finale in December. The show forms one-third of the network’s lineup of premieres the same night, being followed by Warehouse 13 and the Alphas series premiere.

Both Day and Wheaton will be a major part of the new half-season, with each getting a seven-episode story arc to themselves. Day’s episodes as Department of Defense contractor Dr. Holly Marten begin a week after the premiere, while Wheaton’s will reprise his role as Dr. Parrish later ...

Syfy Sets Premiere For ‘Alphas’ & Other Summer Shows

Syfy announced its schedule for new and returning summer shows in a new press release. Most exciting is the single new scripted series, Alphas, while Eureka, Warehouse 13, and Haven will return for their latest seasons.

Three of the shows will premiere on the same night, Monday, July 11th:

Eureka will return to television the same night. The show has a small but dedicated following, who tune in for the antics of a planned community of super-scientists and their “normal” lawman Jack Carter (Colin Ferguson). Eureka is coming off its fourth season, wherein the team’s time traveling adventures have altered the reality of the present. Eureka is in the 8PM timeslot.

The Expendables edges out five new releases at the weekend box office; Underworld 4 will rise in January of 2012; Mark Strong talks Green Lantern; creepy elevator images from Devil; Ryan Reynolds is one hard-working guy; Google is getting its own movie; the production schedule and shooting location for Super 8 has been revealed; and lots more.

Sly Stallone and his brigade of manly men retained the box office crown for a second weekend as The Expendables was top dog yet again. The ultra-explosive action flick grossed an estimated $16.5 million, raising its 10-day total to just under $65 million in the U.S. Does this mean Expendables 2 will happen after all? If it does, then Chuck Norris had better join the party the next time around.

Saturday’s Comic-Con schedule has been released and while the buzz around the con that day may be about Green Lantern, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and Thor, make no mistake that TV is stepping up to the plate and bringing the thunder as well.

Some of the panels included in Saturday’s schedule are heavy-hitters Chuck, MythBusters, Sanctuary, Vampire Diaries and Community. If that’s not enough, you can hit-up panels for Warehouse 13, Eureka, Fringe, V and ABC’s new fall drama, No Ordinary Family (I’ve seen it. It’s amazing!)

A new day means Comic-Con is that much closer and, as promised, Friday’s schedule has been released. Much like Thursday’s schedule, it doesn’t disappoint. With over 100 panels being announced, there’s no lack of entertainment. Obviously, you may not be interested in the “Dragons Are Better Than Unicorns” panel (perhaps the best made-up panel – ever!), but I guarantee that more than one will piqué your interest.

Included in Friday’s events are panels for True Blood, Big Bang Theory and Bones. These are going to be the most sought after panels of the day. When Dave Howe stepped up to the plate at Sci Fi, took the reigns of the network and started heading them towards their new future, he wanted to expand on the number of markets the network was in, which included the youth market (demographic). Howe was also concerned with replacing their flagship television series, Battlestar Galactica & expanding on Ghost Hunters.

As Syfy rebranded itself, it also took the high road to trying to create improved quality content for the channel. In the fracas of it all, they “repainted” the familiar fun that was Stargate and created Stargate Universe – much to the angst of the core Stargate fans.

The 3rd season of Eureka was the most-watched and highest rated season of Eureka.

The show averaged 3.2 million viewers per week. In total viewers, that’s a 20% increase from the previous season.

9 of the 10 most watched episodes of Eureka were in this season.

We are getting a 4th season, which will begin production in Vancouver next year.

Eureka Season Finale: Observations and Discussion

The Eureka season finale has come and gone. As always, it entertained while gripping us with the character developments they so aptly throw into the works while destroying the world.

SPOILER warning: There are spoilers in this reflection on the season finale of Eureka. If you’re a time traveling (ie: time-shifted viewer who likes the DVR/recording method of choice) let your eyeballs tread with caution after the page-break.

Things went as they usually do when something goes slightly awry in Eureka and all of known physics become threatened and the world as we know it becomes endangered.

Again, basic Eureka fun, with some interesting implied story lines for next season… or non-story lines.

But amongst the fret of threat, two, maybe three points were being addressed:

Zoe (Jordan Hinson) leaving for Harvard & Tess leaving for another job in Australia.

Upcoming Eureka Episode To Be Directed By Joe Morton

It’s awesome to see an actor take a professional interest in more than just being a character, and such is the case with Eureka’s Joe Morton. Joe plays Henry Deacon on the show.

Joe has directed before – an episode of TriBeCa, when he was on that show and an independent film titled Sunday on the Rocks.

The upcoming episode of Eureka (9/11/09) involves a virus that causes an ice age sort of environment (and the return of Matt Frewer).

But you’d better keep a careful eye out – Morton knows the TV series has a certain feel to it, and understanding that, he tried to add a few directorial tweaks of his own to this episode.

It will be interesting to watch, for sure! I like actor-directed episodes. The actors know how the show should tick ...
