Is Dollhouse Already Doomed?

Is Dollhouse Already Doomed?

Is Fox “Foxing Up” again?

The Joss Whedon fans who were thinking of starting a “Save Dollhouse” website/campaign might have been on to something long before the rest of us.

Despite the previous report that Dollhouse will be airing on Mondays in 2009, Fox has distributed a press release last week announcing that the series will now premiere in February, on Friday the 13th.

WHAT are they thinking? Is this a demonstration of some massive amount of faith in the realm of Whedon fans to overcome the statistical fact that Friday nights are the worst time ever to air a show?

Dollhouse Production Shut Down (Temporarily)

So what the frak is happening now? No, they are not canceling Dollhouse. Breathe easy.

The production of Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse starring Eliza Dusku has been stopped temporarily. This is good news, and it’s interesting news. You’re probably asking me what can be good about something so ominous as pausing the filming of a show? Glad you asked folks! (This drives my wife crazy, but I say there’s always something good about everything.)

Comic-Con ‘08: Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse Panel

Comic-Con '08: Joss Whedon's Dollhouse Panel

Joss Whedon, Eliza Dushku (Tru Calling, Buffy the Vampire Slayer)  and Tahmoh Penikett (Battlestar Galactica) attended the Dollhouse panel and they went straight to audience questions after the very cool preview of the show.

Joss was asked if there was anyone outside the Whedon-verse cadre of actors that he might be interested in bringing into his shows.  Joss pointed to Tahmoh quickly!  He touched on the fact he’s got a bro-mance with him and wanted him on the show.

Update On Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse

Update On Joss Whedon's Dollhouse

I’ve got a few tidbits on Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse, a new show set to premiere on Fox network this Fall.

The tidbit is that filming for the pilot of Dollhouse is not quite done. The reason is that the network “asked” for some parts of the pilot to be reshot. Some theories suggested they’re shooting more material to add in the extra time for the “remote-free TV” premise Fox is trying.

Barring any concerns we have about Fox network and how it’s going to handle the show, I came across a fascinating insight into part of the pilot episode and the ingenious / insidious mindset Mr. Whedon has.

After the page jump, there is a semi-SPOILER, so be warned!

Joss Whedon Is Playing With A Dollhouse

Joss Whedon Is Playing With A Dollhouse

And that’s a good thing.

If you were wondering what Joss Whedon has been up to lately, well, he’s been busy indeed working on a few different projects but more specifically, he’s working on his new show that went into production last April called Dollhouse.

“Did I fall asleep?”

“For a little while.”

Dollhouse at first sounds a bit like like Paycheck meets Fantasy Island, but goes deeper into the realm of memory control and brutal reality and is scheduled to air on the Fox network. Uniquely, Fox network skipped airing a pilot episode and has already committed to a seven episode run of the show.

It will star Buffy alumini Eliza Dushku (who played Faith, the loose canon slayer from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel).

Dollhouse is about Echo (Eliza Dushku) who is part of a group of people who have their minds imprinted with different personality traits (packages if you will) which includes memories, skills, language and even specific muscle memory for different assignments that they’re given, or hired for.
