2011 Razzies Shortlist: The Worst Films and Performances of 2010

As the ball dropped in Times Square and people everywhere sang inebriated versions of “Auld Lang Syne”, it marked the end of a lukewarm movie year. With 557 movies released in 2010, some of them were truly good and others were excruciatingly bad. People could argue all day about what makes a movie truly bad, but thankfully we have the 31^st annual Golden Raspberry Awards to help us sort the chaff from the wheat.

Although the official list of nominees won’t release until January 24^th, the L.A. Times Award Tracker blog has released the shortlist of nominees for the coveted “Razzie” or Golden Raspberry Award.

The categories this year are pretty much the same as last year – Worst Screenplay, Worst Director, Worst Supporting Actor/Actress, Worst ...

This week’s DVD and Blu-ray releases are all new to the home video market. No significant re-releases hit shelves this week, so we will focus on the summer movies finally available to watch at home.

There are devils and secret agents hiding amongst us, sleazeballs and gossip queens infecting today’s youth and some animated humor to keep you busy in the final weeks of 2010. If you are still looking for a holiday gift, DVD and Blu-rays are the safe bet. Between this and last week, you have plenty of choices.

It’s getting pretty scary out there for horror fans.

Horror hounds have suffered for years with weak remakes, torture porn-a-paloozas and other degrading attempts to make us jump. But 2010 represents a new low for the genre.

The Nightmare on Elm Street remake couldn’t scare a third grader. The biggest reaction to Devil came when audiences laughed over the story credit – “from the mind of M. Night Shyamalan.” And Survival of the Dead proved the zombie genre George A. Romero created has left him in the dust.

And let’s all agree that none of the Twilight films should be thrown in the horror category.

Screen Rant’s Kofi Outlaw Reviews Devil

If you’ve been in movie theaters the past few months, then you surely know the reaction people have had while viewing the trailer for Devil: they sit quietly intrigued up until the tagline “From the mind of M. Night Shyamalan” pops up on the screen. That’s when the laughs and/or boos begin.

However, it should be remembered that Shyamalan’s involvement with Devil is only that he wrote the story for the film and helped guide it along as the first chapter in his unfolding trilogy, The Night Chronicles. And let me tell you: having Shyamalan at a distance makes all the difference in the world. Devil may not be the greatest ghost story ever told, but it’s far more enjoyable than you might be expecting.

New Behind the Scenes ‘Devil’ Featurette

A new behind the scenes featurette for Devil has been released, the forthcoming horror-thriller about five strangers trapped in an elevator who soon realize that one of them is not who/what they appear to be.

It’s an intriguing premise and I really hope that the directorial efforts of The Dowdle Brothers can do the idea justice. The film comes “from the mind of M. Night Shyamalan” as the promos all state, but I’m not so sure they should be bragging about that considering his movies have gone seriously downhill ever since Signs (the crowd at Comic-Con went from silently interested to booing when Shyamalan’s name came up onscreen during the trailer).

Nevertheless, Shyamalan only wrote the story for Devil (although the actual screenplay was written by Brian Nelson of 30 Days of Night and Hard Candy) and produced ...

Eerie New TV Spots For ‘Devil’

M. Night Shyamalan hopes to terrify moviegoers (for the right reasons) with Devil, the first entry in the Night Chronicles trilogy, which is being produced but not directed by the Sixth Sense filmmaker.

Devil revolves around five pedestrians – played by Geoffrey Arend, Jenny O’Hara, Logan Marshall-Green, Bojana Novakovic, and Bokeem Woodbine – who become trapped in an elevator together. A series of bizarre, violent events ensue thereafter, which eventually leads the group to believe that one of their number is actually the Devil in disguise.

Sly Stallone and his brigade of manly men retained the box office crown for a second weekend as The Expendables was top dog yet again. The ultra-explosive action flick grossed an estimated $16.5 million, raising its 10-day total to just under $65 million in the U.S. Does this mean Expendables 2 will happen after all? If it does, then Chuck Norris had better join the party the next time around.

New Posters For ‘Tron Legacy’ & ‘Devil’

Jeff Bridges has never looked as suave as he does in the new international poster for his 3D sci-fi sequel, Tron Legacy; the same goes for the curiously religious elevator on display in the latest one-sheet for the horror flick, Devil.

Disney put on another good show at the 2010 Comic-Con in promotion of their upcoming Tron Legacy, which should be quite the visual extravaganza in 3D and IMAX 3D. Director Joseph Kosinski will helm the pic, which will see Jeff Bridges reprise his role as Kevin Flynn from the original 1982 Tron movie.

Release Date Changes For ‘Devil’ & ‘Adjustment Bureau’

Universal Pictures just announced that The Adjustment Bureau‘s release date has been pushed from September 17th, 2010 to March 4th, 2011. Taking its spot will be the upcoming thriller Devil, by The Brothers Dowdle based off a story by M. Night Shyamalan.

This is one of the stranger release date changes in recent memory. After the opening weekend success of the mind-bending Inception and the epic failure of M. Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender, it makes little sense for Universal to push The Adjustment Bureau - their most intellectual blockbuster of the year – back until just after the Oscars.
