Ryan Reynolds: ‘Deadpool’ Not Connected to ‘X-Men Origins’; Talks ‘Green Lantern 2′

The cinematic adaptation of Marvel’s Deadpool has been stuck in development hell for some time now, a situation that doesn’t seem likely to immediately improve now that the character’s intense popularity has begun to wear off.

Still, Ryan Reynolds (who has been doing the rounds for Safe House) is optimistic that it’ll get made eventually.

In a recent interview, he talked about the proposed film — which apparently no longer has any connection to X-Men Origins: Wolverine – and discussed whether or not we’ll see a sequel to 2011′s greatest superhero flop, Green Lantern.

X-Men movie fans have had to be patient in recent years – what with FOX pushing out poorly-conceived flicks like X-Men: The Last Stand and Wolverine after the success of Bryan Singer’s two X-Men films (and before Matthew Vaughn’s saved the franchise with his prequel/reboot X-Men: First Class). Ryan Reynolds Offers ‘Green Lantern 2′ & ‘Deadpool’ Updates

Those who didn’t get their Ryan Reynolds fix from Green Lantern can amend the situation by checking him (and the movie) out in The Change-Up this Friday (look for our review later this week).

Comic book fans are likely more interested in hearing about two upcoming Reynolds-centric projects – Green Lantern 2 and Deadpool. According to the actor, he’s still hopeful about getting to play Wade Wilson onscreen (again), but doesn’t know yet whether he’ll be donning CGI green duds as Hal Jordan for a second time.

Next on the agenda for Reynolds is the Dark Horse comic book adaptation, R.I.P.D. Afterwards, he may be teaming up with visual effects artist-turned-director Tim Miller on Deadpool, which will be a “total reboot” of the title character, following his appearance in X-Men Origins: ...

Less than two weeks ago, X-Men franchise producer Lauren Shuler-Donner provided an update on the status of X-Men Origins: Deadpool, reiterating what we heard from Ryan Reynolds about the film having a stellar script, one that’s R-Rated. She indicated the Reynolds was still on board and that the film’s story would entirely ignore that of the character’s awful introduction in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

There are two things holding back the realization of what may be a proper adaptation of the Deadpool character from Marvel Comics: Green Lantern and a lack of a director. One of those problems just got solved.

With X-Men: First Class hitting theaters in just a few months and The Wolverine hopefully starting production soon, X-Men film fans are undoubtedly curious as to what is coming next from Twentieth Century Fox for Marvel’s mutants. We just reported on producer Lauren Shuler-Donner’s bomb-drop that X-Men 4 & 5 are in “active development,” but she didn’t stop at that.

In the same feature in the upcoming issue of Empire, Donner also touched on the Deadpool movie, a film we’re optimistic about but also concerned for.

David Slade Talks ‘Daredevil’ Reboot, ‘Deadpool’ & ‘Wolverine’ Rumors

There’s something amusing about how David Slade’s decision to helm the third film in the Twilight series, Eclipse, ultimately (in part) led him to snag the job of rebooting Daredevil for Fox – as well as being rumored as a contender to helm not only Deadpool, but also The Wolverine, now that Darren Aronofsky has stepped down.

Plot and casting rumors for the new Daredevil pic have popped up recently, and many a fan is already speculating that Slade could replace Aronofsky on Wolverine 2. It’s appropriate, then, that the 30 Days of Night filmmaker has spoken out – or, rather, tweeted – and provided some perspective on these matters.

Ryan Reynolds Defends ‘Green Lantern’ Costume, Says ‘Deadpool’ Still Alive

Ryan Reynolds may be one of the hardest-working stars in Hollywood right now, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t taking time to consider fan reactions to early Green Lantern footage – or that he’s forgotten about the seemingly stagnant Deadpool movie, which he remains attached to (if only in spirit).

The first Green Lantern trailer provided an early look at Reynolds’ CGI outfit and, admittedly, the costume could stand some improvement. A number of fans are just against the idea of a digitally-created suit on principle, and it’s on that point that Reynolds disagrees.

Now that the first official Green Lantern trailer has released to the masses and received not-so-positive feedback, some comic book fans wish that star Ryan Reynolds had taken the Marvel route to instead play Wade Wilson in Deadpool for Twentieth Century Fox. Rodriguez Not Doing Deadpool; Newcomer May Direct

Fans of Marvel’s cult-favorite character Deadpool may be more interested in whether or not Ryan Reynolds will play him in the upcoming movie, but who directs the movie is pretty important as well.

Machete director Robert Rodriguez has been attached to Deadpool for awhile now, but scheduling conflicts with his upcoming Spy Kids 4 have threatened to force him off the project. Well, it’s sadly looking like Rodriguez will not direct Deadpool and according to 24 Frames a new, unknown director may be taking his place.

“Sources familiar with the project” are saying that Adam Berg has emerged as the likely choice to direct Deadpool. “Who’s Adam Berg?” I hear you ask. Well, he’s a Swedish commercial and video director who hasn’t directed any feature films. The obvious choice, right?

We here at Screen Rant are big supporters of the Deadpool movie, which has been in the works for awhile now, and we were extremely happy when our friends over at Cinema Blend recently reviewed the script for Deadpool and came back saying that the movie was going to have all the violence, laughs and 4th wall-breaking antics fans of the Merc With a Mouth have always been demanding from a cinematic adaptation of the character.

Cinema Blend has gotten their mitts on the most recent draft of the Deadpool movie screenplay by Zombieland writing duo Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, and their reaction can be summed up as follows: this film needs to be made, now.

Both director Robert Rodriguez and star Ryan Reynolds would be hard-pressed to work on Deadpool if 20th Century Fox pushed for production to begin in the near future, but – according to the script reviewer – the comic book flick would be a perfect match for both of these fellows.

The mercenary Deadpool will eventually make the leap from comic book to the big screen, but his movie may not feature director Robert Rodriguez at helm after all.

Rodriguez has previously admitted that he is not yet committed to directing Deadpool, even though he also heaped praise on the film’s screenplay, which was penned by the Zombieland writing duo of Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

“[20th Century Fox is] trying to make a certain small window [for the release of Deadpool] that’s going to be tough because of Spy Kids,” Rodriguez told Deadline, referring to Spy Kids 4, a semi-reboot of his kid-friendly action franchise. “If they push it back, it would be a lot better for me.”

Sly Stallone and his brigade of manly men retained the box office crown for a second weekend as The Expendables was top dog yet again. The ultra-explosive action flick grossed an estimated $16.5 million, raising its 10-day total to just under $65 million in the U.S. Does this mean Expendables 2 will happen after all? If it does, then Chuck Norris had better join the party the next time around.

Robert Rodriguez is being so coy about Deadpool it’s almost adorable. Though it was widely reported nearly a month ago that he was in serious negotiations to direct the X-Men: Wolverine Origins spin-off, word comes today that he is still, alas, noncommittal.

“It’s a great script,” Rodriguez said, referring to the screenplay penned by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Zombieland). “I’m just working everything out.”

Apparently, Rodriguez has yet to decide if he’s going to pursue Deadpool next, or a pet project like Sin City 2 (or an as yet unnamed third option). Perhaps recent news that the Green Lantern sequels might be filming back to back, ...

‘Deadpool’ Offered to Robert Rodriguez?

The upcoming solo film featuring the character of Deadpool has been in the cards for awhile now. Ryan Reynolds played the character in X-Men Origins: Wolverine (one of the only saving graces of that movie) and depending on scheduling being worked out (Reynolds is currently busy with Green Lantern) he could play the character in the solo film.

It was confirmed back in January that Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick would write the Deadpool movie. So that’s the writers sorted out but what about a director?
