While he may not be a household name like his DC Universe contemporaries such as Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern, Deadman is getting a shot at stardom in a new series from Supernatural creator Eric Kripke.

Deadman concerns the story of circus trapeze artist Boston Brand who actually performed under the name Deadman – in his now patented red jumpsuit and white make-up. Brand’s story truly begins after his life is taken from him while performing by a mysterious attacker known only as the Hook. Ever since we heard that DC Comics and Warner Bros. were forming a new venture called DC Entertainment, a lot of us have been wondering one thing: what’s the new game plan going to be?

Well, we’re still waiting to hear announcements from DCE about some of our favorite superheroes’ chances of being on the big screen, but today we’re at least getting a clearer picture of who will be making the decisions that put them there (or not). And some of these names are ones that comic book geeks know all too well…

Thanks to Deadline, we now know that on the creative side of things, Dan Didio and Jim Lee have been named co-publishers of DC comics, while Geoff Johns has been named Chief Creative Officer of DC Entertainment. On the business ...

DC Entertainment: What’s The Game Plan?

Yesterday we found out that Warner Bros. has created DC Entertainment Inc. (DCE) to better expand the DC Comics into a multimedia brand of steel . Now comes the inevitable question of “What’s the game plan?”

MTV Splash Page posted a nice piece declaring which DC properties should be put on fast-track under the DCE banner, and this being Friday and all, I thought I’d once again do a little call-and-response on the topic (I now consider Splash Page‘s Josh Wigler to be something of a pen-pal).

Warner Bros. Creates DC Entertainment Inc.

After the Disney/Marvel merger DC Comics and longtime-partner Warner Bros. had to be shaking in their boots. “The House of the Mouse” is already looking like a force that few will likely be able to reckon with.

Well, in an effort to become one of those few forces able to take on Disney/Marvel, Nikke Finke reports that Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. has launched a new division, DC Entertainment Inc., in order to better expand the DC Brand.

Marvel fanboys have already been having heart palpitations wondering what the fate of their favorite characters will be in the hands of Disney. Now DC fans can officially share in that anxiety.

Guillermo del Toro Bringing Deadman to the Screen

For those of you worrying right now that Guillermo del Toro is trying to reboot the work of Jim Jarmusch: stop worrying. It’s not going down like that. Instead, Bloody-Disgusting is reporting that del Toro is actually set to produce an adaptation of the DC Comics character, Deadman, for Warner Bros.

International director Nikolaj Arcel is reportedly set to helm DC/WB project.

In the DC Universe, Deadman is a circus trapeze artist named Boston Brand, who dresses up in a red suit and white makeup to perform under the stage name (you guessed it) Deadman.
