Fans with long memories might recall that a couple of years ago, Battlestar Galactica star Katee Sackhoff was seen in a comic book store (gasp!) buying copies of Daredevil comics that featured the hero’s nemesis/lover, Typhoid Mary. At the time FOX was looking to reboot both the Daredevil and Fantastic Four properties – a plan that ultimately got set on the back-burner.

However, things have now changed. FOX is indeed rebooting the Daredevil franchise, with director David Slade (30 Days of Night) at the helm. Two upcoming comic book franchise reboots – one about a blind-warrior with “sonar vision,” the other about mutated reptiles with mad martial arts skills – have just taken another step forward. 20th Century Fox has hired a screenwriter to pen its new Daredevil movie, while Paramount has selected a new writing duo to tackle scripting duties on its Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot.

Daredevil is the reboot that fans have been expecting to hear about sooner than later, since director David Slade promised some official news was on the horizon about a week and a half ago. Better late than never, though.

It’s nearly been a year and a half since reports indicated that Twentieth Century Fox was moving ahead with a reboot of Daredevil to make up for the failed attempt to launch another Marvel superhero franchise with Ben Affleck starring in the titular role. A few months ago, David Slade (30 Days of Night, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse) was chosen to direct the new Daredevil adaptation, with the goal of bringing a more serious take on the character of Matt Murdock.

David Slade Talks ‘Daredevil’ Reboot, ‘Deadpool’ & ‘Wolverine’ Rumors

There’s something amusing about how David Slade’s decision to helm the third film in the Twilight series, Eclipse, ultimately (in part) led him to snag the job of rebooting Daredevil for Fox – as well as being rumored as a contender to helm not only Deadpool, but also The Wolverine, now that Darren Aronofsky has stepped down.

Plot and casting rumors for the new Daredevil pic have popped up recently, and many a fan is already speculating that Slade could replace Aronofsky on Wolverine 2. It’s appropriate, then, that the 30 Days of Night filmmaker has spoken out – or, rather, tweeted – and provided some perspective on these matters.

‘Daredevil’ Reboot Casting & Plot Rumors

The Man Without Fear is prepped to return to theaters in Fox’s Daredevil reboot, which David Slade is set to direct. Rumors are already circulating about the film’s plot – which could be based on the work of comic book legend Frank Miller – and what up-and-coming actor may portray the new version of the blind vigilante onscreen.

Miller’s “Born Again” storyline redefined Daredevil during the 1980s – and now Slade may be drawing from that source material as inspiration for the reboot, which is reportedly only in the development stage at this point.

Heat Vision says that Fox is planning for the Daredevil reboot to continue the story begun in director Mark Steven Johnson’s 2003 movie adaptation with Ben Affleck, who is not expected to reprise his role as the titular hero. “Born Again” is ...

Fox Wants David Slade To Reboot ‘Daredevil’

Just a week ago discussions about a Daredevil reboot were re-ignited, inspired in part by Xavier Gens’ forgotten vision for the film. 20th Century Fox initiated development of said reboot about a year ago, and has now targeted a director to oversee the project – but it’s not that of Mr. Gens.

David Slade is reportedly the fellow Fox officials want to re-imagine “The Man Without Fear” on the big screen, but an official deal with the 30 Days of Night filmmaker has yet to be secured.

Coming Soon has confirmed that Slade is being eyed to helm the Daredevil reboot, which Fox has to get into production soon before the film rights revert to Marvel Studios and its owner, Walt Disney Pictures. ...

It’s been over a year since we heard that New Regency would attempt to resurrect the film career of Marvel’s blind but capable crime-fighter Daredevil. Many film fans (and geeks) have attempted to forget writer/director Mark Steven Johnson’s 2003 adaptation which featured Ben Affleck as “The Man Without Fear,” Colin Farrell as the hero’s main threat Bullseye, and Michael Clarke Duncan as the overarching antagonist Kingpin.

‘Daredevil’ Writer Wants Serious New Film Adaptation

The world has changed a lot in seven years, particularly perceptions of how a superhero movie should play out. And that’s why renowned comic book author Antony Johnston hopes Daredevil can have a better crack at the big screen his second time around.

It was reported earlier this year that the so-called Man Without Fear would be getting a reboot – a la Hulk and The Punisher – with a script being written by David Scarpa, whose last major project was penning The Day The Earth Stood Still remake.

Johnston, whose work includes popular post-apocalyptic series Wasteland and the graphic novel Julius (which itself is set to be given the movie treatment with Law Abiding Citizen‘s F. Gary Gray directing), is now working on Daredevil - the comic series – with Andy Diggle, the man behind

If you want to be a superhero, then you have to dress like one – and to do that you’ll need the absolute necessities: Mask, cowl, cape, utility belt and a weapon and/or superpower. The everyday kid turned hero vigilante Kick-Ass knew this when he bought a neoprene bodysuit with yellow piping, a matching mask and two batons for weapons. It looks great on the page and the design team for the movie replicated it perfectly but… it doesn’t always work out that way.

Not every superhero outfit drawn in the pages of a comic book looks great on screen. Some can be replicated exactly from printed page to movie or TV set and look great with not a hint of cheese to be found. Others, not so lucky.

When you think of awesome comic book movies, what comes to mind? The Dark Knight? Iron Man, perhaps? Whatever movie pops into your head, the odds are good that it’s not Daredevil. That film, which came out in 2003 and starred Ben Affleck as the “Man Without Fear,” received mostly mixed reviews from critics and never really hit it off with hardcore comic fans. (I’ve heard that the director’s cut of the film is significantly better, though I’ve never seen it myself.)

Considering the public’s general dissatisfaction with Daredevil, as well as the fact that Fox was in danger of losing their rights to the character, it’s no surprise that they decided to move ahead with a reboot of the franchise. If they don’t learn any lessons from what didn’t work ...

Daredevil Reboot Confirmed

Back in 2008, Frank Miller and Jason Statham demonstrated their interest in a Daredevil reboot and Tom Rothman, head of Fox, made it clear that the reboot was definitely something the high-ups were interesting in getting to work on.

To no surprise, Mike Fleming just picked up the exclusive that Daredevil is now definitely being rebooted. Regency will be handling the remake for distributor Fox and David Scarpa will be writing the script.

From Fleming’s report:

Regency is mounting the remake with former News Corp No. 2 Peter Chernin producing. Writing the redo is screenwriter David Scarpa, who scripted The Day The Earth Stood Still for Fox.

Katee “Starbuck” Sackhoff As Typhoid Mary In Daredevil Reboot?

As you may already know, Fox and Marvel want to reboot both the Fantastic Four and Daredevil and it looks like a certain “Starbuck” may be angling to play none other than Typhoid Mary!

Recently, Katee Sackhoff (“Starbuck” on Battlestar Galactica) was seen at Golden Apple Comics in Los Angeles purchasing as many comics featuring Typhoid Mary as possible. Now of course there’s no guarantee that she’ll be playing the pyrokinetic villain, or is even being considered, but it’s a darn good bet she wants to play her!

‘Hitman’ Director Sets His Sights on Daredevil

Xavier Gens, the director of 2007′s Hitman adaptation, has his sights set on the Daredevil reboot, which has been a pretty active rumor in the last year, ever since Frank Miller and Jason Statham pitched their hats in the Daredevil ring during last year’s San Diego Comic Con.

Gens recently let his own passion for Daredevil be known during a Q&A with the Facebook group, “Marvel Movies!” (Who knew Facebook had other practical purposes besides wasting time?)

Top Fox Exec Talks Daredevil Reboot

The guys over at IESB were recently chatting with 20th Century Fox co-chairman, Tim Rothman, and got him to open up about the Daredevil reboot, a project which was proposed earlier this year at Comic Con by Sin City creator Frank Miller and British action star Jason Statham.

According to Rothman, Miller and Statham weren’t just doing some out-loud wishful thinking: a Daredevil reboot is something Fox would definitely be interested in–so long as they could snag a director who would be able to do for the Man Without Fear what Chris Nolan did for Batman Begins.

Jason Statham Wants to Play Daredevil

An LA Times reporter had the good fortune to run into actor Jason Statham (Death Race) and comic book icon-turned comic book movie director, Frank Miller (Sin City, The Spirit), during Comic-Con last week, and oh what plans the pair of them were cooking up.

Said Statham,

“Could a British actor wear the red horns of the Man Without Fear?… Absolutely, just give me the chance, I would love to be Daredevil.”

Miller, the writer of “Born Again,” one the greatest Daredevil stories ever told, lent Statham a bit of comic-cred by adding,

“I think he should be Daredevil too.”

Statham does have the action resume to qualify him to play The Man Without Fear, (and if you’ve seen some of the crazy stunts he’s done in his movies, you know that he has very little fear to begin with.) If his ...
