Every Halloween I feel the need to pull out my classic creature films and watch at least two a week leading up to October 31st. The Bride of Frankenstein, The Mummy, Dracula and Creature from the Black Lagoon are just a few of the films I watch each year.

Classic film buffs will recognize names like Boris Karloff, Lon Chaney Jr., Max Schreck and Bela Lugosi as the men behind the classic creatures of horror – but what if those creatures weren’t played by actors but rather by the creatures themselves? How would a director or studio go about hiring one of these classic horror movie icons?

AMC has teamed up with The Walking Dead’s special FX make-up designer Greg Nicotero to bring us the short film titled ...

Click to continue reading SR Pick [Video]: The United Monster Talent Agency Short Film Entertains

We reported back in May of this year that Universal’s upcoming remake of the classic monster movie, Creature from the Black Lagoon, was sans a director. At one point Sahara director, Breck Eisner, was rumored to be attached to the remake, but we learned thereafter that wasn’t the case.

So the project has been without someone in the director’s chair for months… until now: Variety is reporting that Carl Rinsch is in early talks with Universal to helm its remake of Creature from the Black Lagoon. Does his name ring any sort of bell with you? A little? Well, that’s because Rinsch was once rumored to be directing the upcoming Alien prequel before Ridley Scott was convinced to helm it himself.

Rinsch was originally a commercial film director (you can check out some ...

Click to continue reading Carl Rinsch To Direct ‘Black Lagoon’ Remake?

Screen Rant recently talked about all the remakes and reboots coming out of the unoriginal machine called Hollywood. With the dozens of proposed remakes littering web sites and publications, it can sometimes be hard to discern the good from the bad. The good, in this case, would be a remake of Universal Studios classic monster B-movie, The Creature from the Black Lagoon.

Back in December, rumor was that Breck Eisner (Sahara) – who was originally attached to the project – would be abandoning the helm. Universal denied that rumor saying he was still on board and would be directing the feature after finishing up his current remake of George Romero’s The Crazies with Timothy Olyphant.

According to Bloody-Disgusting, that no longer appears to be the case. At this point, the Universal Studios and Strike Entertainment ...

Click to continue reading Creature from the Black Lagoon Remake Needs A Director
