Are you a fan of Fawlty Towers? Ever even heard of the show? Well it’s where John Cleese headed for a brief time after Monty Python back in 1975 and 1979. The show only ran for 12 episodes, but every single one of them is hysterical, and many are funny enough to bring tears to your eyes (that’s not PR, that’s my opinion). Fawlty Towers also starred Prunella Scales, Connie Both and Andrew Sachs.

Well it’s the 30th anniversary of the show and the episodes are being re-released in a special edition, remastered DVD set – and we have four (4) copies to give away!

Yes, Val Kilmer and Cuba Gooding Jr. are together in a movie. The direct-to-DVD Sci-Fi movie Hardwired. If you’re looking for what one can only hope is at least some cheesy fun, we have three copies to give away here on Screen Rant.

Here’s a synopsis of the film:

Luke Gibson (Gooding Jr.) is all but written off for dead after a car accident that claimed the life of his wife and unborn child, and left him with complete amnesia. Looking for test subjects for their new technological “breakthrough,” the Hexx Corporation offers cutting edge technology that saves Luke’s life, a Psi-Com Implant which is hardwired into Luke’s brain. I think reading a prequel story to a film helps make the movie watching experience better – I recently read the four issue Star Trek: Continuum series which is a prequel to that upcoming film, and it fills in a lot of detail that won’t be explained in the film itself. So with this being a full blown 320 page novel I’m sure there’s a LOT of background here to prepare you for the film.

Hey folks, we have kind of a quirky giveaway for you this week. Alien Trespass opens on April 3rd and while I haven’t seen the film yet it looks like it could actually be a lot of fun. It’s a riff on the cheesy classic sci-fi films of the 1950s with a couple of twists which I’ll describe later (they’re not plot spoiler twists, don’t worry).

We’re giving away three Lobby Cards sets from the film, with one of the sets signed by film leads Eric McCormack, Jenni Baird, Dan Lauria and R.W. Goodwin.

Here’s the official synopsis of the film:

Set in 1957, ALIEN TRESPASS chronicles a fiery object from space that crashes into a mountaintop in the California desert, bringing the threat of disaster to Earth. Out of the flying saucer escapes a murderous creature – the Ghota, which is bent on destroying all life forms on the planet. A benevolent alien from the spaceship, Urp, inhabits the body of Ted Lewis (Eric McCormack) – a local astronomer – and with the help of Tammy, (Jenni Baird) a waitress from the local diner, sets out to save mankind.

We covered the Alien Trespass panel at WonderCon and some interesting things came out of that. The film was created as an honest homage to those (now) campy films from the 1950s – in order to not make the film seem like a farce, the idea is that this film actually WAS filmed back then, but was lost in a studio vault for many years, only resurfacing now. Great pains were taken to make the film as authentic to the period as possible in every facet of the production, from costume design to materials used to create the sets all the down to the type of film stock used to shoot the movie.

The other “twist” is that the hero of the film is a woman, very unusual for sci-fi films at the time.

Based on the press materials, Alien Trespass is family-friendly, so it might make for a great, nostalgic outing for parents and kids. I’ll be on the lookout for this in my area as my 12 year old daughter is well versed in the 1950s sci-fi classics.

Oh yeah, what about the contest? We’re giving away three (3) sets of classic 1950s style Lobby Cards from the film. Two winners each will get a set of two and one lucky winner will get the signed version. They’re 11×14 inches and if you’re a fan of classic sci-fi memorabilia I’d say they’re worthy of framing.
