David Ayer's (Training Day) script for FOX's 'Commando' remake/reboot is apparently done, and the new film would still have the Hard-R rating of the Schwarzenegger original.

Last year brought word that FOX was doing a remake/reboot of the classic Arnold Schwarzenegger action flick, Commando. Since then the project has been overshadowed by news of Schwarzenegger’s acting comeback (and scandalous re-retirement), but today we have an update to share.

In speaking with Collider, producer John Davis (Mr. Popper’s Penguins) touched briefly on where Commando is in development and what kind of approach is being taken with the film.

The quick version is that screenwriter/ex-Navy man David Ayer (Training Day, U-571, S.W.A.T.) has completed a script and that the film will retain a hard-R tone. Supposedly the script Ayer’s came up with is also pretty good, as Davis told Collider:

We have a really great script. You know, ...

Click to continue reading ‘Commando’ Script Finished; Reboot Is Hard-R Rated

20th Century Fox is remaking the 80s Schwarzenegger action flick Commando, enlisting the services of David Ayer to write and direct.

Just as there was no stopping John Matrix when it came to rescuing his daughter from the clutches of an exiled Latin American dictator in Commando, there appears to be no stopping the juggernaut that has become rehashing the 80s movies.

The heavy-duty action vehicle that helped Arnold Schwarzenegger crash and bash his way to the top of the Hollywood pile has now joined the convoy of fellow retro renegades – including The A-Team, Snake Plissken and many more – about to be dragged kicking and screaming into the new millennium.

And, putting all moaning aside for a moment, Deadline has reported that 20th Century Fox has tapped the respected David Ayer to head up a new Commando mission by writing and directing the remake.

Ayer, himself an ex-submariner in the United States Navy, wrote ...

Click to continue reading Fox Sends Ayer on a New ‘Commando’ Mission

The box office has a severe Hangover; Vertigo tries to find the real Exorcist; Ed Neumeier talks RoboCop; Angelina Jolie is Wanted; Megan Fox is a Vampire Slayer and Dwayne Johnson goes Commando.

Box office
The Hangover was a holdover this week in the number 1 position. The R-rated comedy should bank another $33 million over the weekend to bring the total of the film up to $100 million after one week on release. With a sequel already in development it looks like this is a new lucrative franchise for Warner Bros – one that doesn’t involve costly special effects. Up held onto the runner-up spot with a weekend take of about $30 million showing that people just love Pixar movies.

Tony Scott’s The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 arrived at number 3 this weekend with ...

Click to continue reading Movie News Wrap Up: June 14, 2009
