‘Ghost Rider 2′ and ‘Wrath of the Titans’ TV Spots

“Bigger, badder, and more badass” is the mantra for two action-packed, post-converted 3D blockbuster sequels due to hit theaters in the first quarter of 2012 – namely, the superhero comic book movie, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, and the mythological fantasy adventure, Wrath of the Titans. Both of these flicks are also followups to films that did great business at the box office, despite being almost universally derided critically.

Today, we have a handful of new TV spots for both titles, available for you viewing pleasure – and to help you decide whether or not they look to pack enough genuine gritty bang for your hard-earned buck.

‘Wrath of the Titans’ Trailer: Gritty Fantasy Violence & Actual Titans

When Battle: Lost Angeles director Jonathan Liebesman was brought on to helm Warner Bros.’ Wrath of the Titans, a sequel to the 2010 Clash of the Titans remake, he expressed a desire to fashion the mythological sequel as more of a truly grounded, down n’ dirty swords & sandals epic (in the vein of filmmaker Ridley Scott’s Gladiator).

Today, we have some official posters/banners and a teaser trailer for Wrath of the Titans – and while they both feature CGI creatures and bombastic action aplenty, there’s definitely a much more textural and unpolished look to this action-packed first look at the film (which even includes actual Titans).

‘Clash of the Titans 3′ Already In Development

Studio heads are all about striking while the iron is hot – hence why they often begin preliminary work on a sequel well before a new tentpole release even hits theaters. Case in point: Warner Bros. is doing just that, seeing how the studio has hired on a screenwriter for Sherlock Holmes 3… even though the second installment in that series has yet to hit theaters.

It turns out the Holmes threequel isn’t the only project Warner Bros. is getting a head start on; studio heads have also gotten the ball rolling on Clash of the Titans 3, even though the Titans sequel (Wrath of the Titans) won’t hit theaters until Spring 2012.

Harry Potter works his magic for a record-breaking opening weekend; Jonathan Liebesman hails Caesar; catch a first look at Colin Farrell in Total Recall; Joe Carnahan’s The Grey starts a war; get ready for Bad Santa 2… and 3? Box Office

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2 waved its wand and unleashed some serious magic at the box office over the weekend. The final installment in the decade-old franchise obliterated records with its debut grossing an astonishing $168.6 million. Harry Potter (read our Deathly Hallows, Part 2 review) grossed $92 million on Friday (including midnight showings which brought in $43.5 million) giving it the largest single day gross in history.

The Last Airbender Leads 2011 Razzie Award ‘Winners’

It’s that time of year again, when the Oscars reward various filmmakers, films, and actors for their extraordinary cinematic work, and the Razzies punish various filmmakers, films, and actors for their especially horrendous cinematic work.

Last night, the 31st Annual Razzie Awards were held at Hollywood’s Barnsdall Gallery Theater. To no one’s surprise, M. Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender was the big “winner” (or maybe “loser” is more appropriate here) of the night, taking home the most Razzies. Alas, it wasn’t a clean sweep, as Sex and the City 2 took home several awards that Airbender was nominated for.

Inception Leads 2011 Saturn Award Nominees

As we edge ever closer to the biggest movie award ceremony around, the Oscars, we have another set of nominations to mull over: The 37th Annual Saturn Awards.

While the Oscars, Golden Globes and the BAFTAs tend to recognize the more “serious” films (some would say in a way that is out of touch), award ceremonies like the Saturn Awards nominate films that average moviegoers would likely champion as their favorites of the year – not to mention the ceremony also recognizes the best TV shows and DVD release the year had to offer.

2011 Razzie Nominations: ‘Last Airbender’, ‘Twilight: Eclipse’ Lead The Pack

Memories of cinematic dreck released in 2010 lingers on in our collective consciousness, even with the promise of more disappointing sequels and undesired franchise rejuvenation (see – the Lethal Weapon reboot) to arrive in the future. Enter the diabolical minds behind the Razzie Awards.

Nominees for the 31st Annual Razzie Awards have been announced and M. Night Shyamalan’s much-derided TV show adaptation, The Last Airbender, and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse are the leaders in the contest to be officially ordained the “best of the worst” in 2010.

2011 Razzies Shortlist: The Worst Films and Performances of 2010

As the ball dropped in Times Square and people everywhere sang inebriated versions of “Auld Lang Syne”, it marked the end of a lukewarm movie year. With 557 movies released in 2010, some of them were truly good and others were excruciatingly bad. People could argue all day about what makes a movie truly bad, but thankfully we have the 31^st annual Golden Raspberry Awards to help us sort the chaff from the wheat.

Although the official list of nominees won’t release until January 24^th, the L.A. Times Award Tracker blog has released the shortlist of nominees for the coveted “Razzie” or Golden Raspberry Award.

Another year of movies has come and gone – and everyone is producing lists of their best and worst movies of the year. We have already unveiled what we thought were the 10 worst movies of 2010 and the top 10 movie moments of 2010 but we thought we would also do a list highlighting which movies we found to be the most disappointing.

While 2010 brought us its fair share of thrills, excitement, drama and laughs in such films as Inception, Kick-Ass, Black Swan and Toy Story 3 (to name but a few) the year inevitably brought us its fair share of disappointment, too.

Sam Worthington Promises ‘Wrath of the Titans’ Will Be Better

Sam Worthington, the quick-to-hit-the-Hollywood-A-list Aussie star, will be starring in his first sequel (to one of his own movies) in 2012 with Wrath of the Titans. Moviegoers were presented with some of cinema’s worst 3D post-conversion ever with the Clash of the Titans remake earlier this year and despite awful-to-medicore reviews from fans and critics, the special effects heavy film grossed nearly half a billion worldwide and hence, earned a sequel.

Worthington understands the cries of the fans and to a certain extent, agrees with them. He promises that he, the director and writers are listening and will attempt to deliver a much-improved sequel with Wrath of the Titans.

Clash of the Titans had it all: blockbuster production values, 3D visual FX, and a cast that included a handful of Oscar-nominees. So how can Clash of the Titans 2 (a.k.a Wrath of the Titans) possibly be an improvement on its predecessor?

The early word is that two more acclaimed talents, Javier Bardem and James Franco, may be brought onboard to star in the second battle between mortals, monsters, and bearded deities, which has already begun pre-production and could begin filming in the first half of 2011.

The 10 Scariest Giant Movie Monsters Of All Time

Movie monsters come in all shapes and sizes. While some of the smallest creatures have produced the greatest fear in humanity, there’s no questioning that the giant monsters that attack whole cities and engulf victims like Tic-Tacs are terrifying on a whole other scale (get it?). Movies have seen their fair share of the big fellas, and we’ve narrowed them down to those we think are the scariest of them all.

Certain giant movie monsters just missed the cut, but came to mind while developing our ten favorites. For instance, the Brain Bug from Starship Troopers is a massive and disgusting creature and the Graboids of Tremors are hideous creatures, but ultimately both missed our list.

2010 Scream Award Nominations

We’re now into awards season once more (time flies, doesn’t it?), with the Emmys having come and gone already. Now we have the annual 2010 Scream Awards which celebrates the more fan-friendly type of movies and TV shows that the Oscars and the Emmys might not honor. And the great thing is YOU get to vote for the winners!

Last year they honored such fan-favorites as Star Trek, Watchmen and Fringe with nominations, which I’m sure pleased many of you. Even if they still nominate some questionable movies, there’s no doubting that for the most part, the Scream Awards are a lot more in line with the majority of the movie going audience who pay to see movies purely to be entertained.

Jonathan Liebesman Confirmed To Direct Clash of the Titans 2

After Louis Leterrier declined to return for the inevitable Clash of the Titans sequel, Warner Bros. had to move on to other possible directors. Back in June we got word that Battle: Los Angeles director, Jonathan Liebesman, was at the top of a shortlist of directors – now it’s been confirmed that he will direct Clash of the Titans 2.

Heat Vision reports the news exclusively that Liebesman has signed on to direct the Titans sequel, after a summer spent negotiating a deal with the studio. Unsurprisingly, the reason for it taking this long was partly about money but also the issues of how to get around the negative opinions of the first film to try and better sell Clash of the Titans 2 to audiences.

Clash of the Titans 2 Snags Writing Duo

A few days ago we got wind of the news that Jonathan Liebesman (Battle: Los Angeles) might be directing the upcoming sequel to the mythological blockbuster, Clash of the Titans. Although we still don’t know whether or not he will end up directing the movie, we now know that the sequel is moving along quickly, with two screenwriters already confirmed.

Greg Berlanti (Green Lantern) was originally brought on to pen the treatment for Clash of the Titans 2 but now it appears he will just be working with/consulting the two official writers of the sequel, Dan Mazeau and David Leslie Johnson.

Mazeau isn’t exactly unfamiliar with blockbuster fare, having worked on both upcoming movie versions of The Flash and Johnny Quest. Although Johnson may not be ...

‘Battle: Los Angeles’ Director To Helm 3D ‘Clash of the Titans’ Sequel?

With the solid success of the Clash of the Titans remake ($486 million worldwide on a budget of $125 million), it’s no wonder Warner Bros. is looking ahead to a sequel.

We reported back in April that Clash of the Titans 2 was moving ahead without Louis Leterrier returning to direct. Fast-forward to today and we’re hearing word that the Clash of the Titans sequel might be upon us sooner rather than later, with a shortlist of directors already drawn up.

24 Frames reports that Clash of the Titans 2 could start shooting as early as January 2011, which means we might see the film in theaters before the end of that year (a Holiday season release, perhaps?). The film already has a screenwriter in the form of Greg Berlanti ...

Iron Man 2 retained the top spot this weekend after grabbing just under $50 million worth of moviegoers’ cash over the weekend. The Tony Stark adventure has now grossed a spectacular $208 million domestic gross since its debut last weekend. Will it outgross the original?

Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood was in second place with just under $37 million for the weekend. While the debut isn’t overly impressive, it is solid for an action film aimed at a mature audience. Universal will be hoping that the film has legs, so that it can cover its expensive outlay ...
