Inception Leads 2011 Saturn Award Nominees

As we edge ever closer to the biggest movie award ceremony around, the Oscars, we have another set of nominations to mull over: The 37th Annual Saturn Awards.

While the Oscars, Golden Globes and the BAFTAs tend to recognize the more “serious” films (some would say in a way that is out of touch), award ceremonies like the Saturn Awards nominate films that average moviegoers would likely champion as their favorites of the year – not to mention the ceremony also recognizes the best TV shows and DVD release the year had to offer.

One of the most beloved movies of the year hits home video this week along with a few other popular titles. You may feel some nostalgia with the re-release of The Goonies on Blu-ray.

Toy Story 3 may be the only huge hit on DVD and Blu-ray this week, but many home video fans are still recovering from the last two weeks of highly anticipated releases. In fact, the next few weeks host at least one major theatrical hit on the home market. Be prepared.

Interview With ‘Centurion’ Director Neil Marshall & Axelle Carolyn

Although it is already available On Demand, Centurion doesn’t hit theaters until this weekend. Screen Rant sat down with writer/director Neil Marshall and his wife/actress/filmmaker Axelle Carolyn as they prepare for the release of Centurion.

The two are an engaging couple with plenty to talk about and in our chat we discussed a little of everything – Centurion, The Descent, Burst 3D and even the possibility of a Neil Marshall adaptation of Shakespeare.

I was anxious to talk about the film with Marshall after thoroughly enjoying it in an earlier screening. Centurion follows the Roman army’s infamous Ninth Legion as it moves forward from Hadrian’s wall into Scotland to destroy the Picts, a violent and barbarous race that plagued the Romans throughout their time in Britain.

The film opens with a bloody attack on a Roman outpost and the only survivor is Quintus Dias (played by Michael Fassbender), who barely escapes, only to happen upon the Ninth Legion as they march into Scotland, led by a mute Pict guide named Etain (Olga Kurylenko). Etain betrays the Legion, who are all but destroyed by the violent attack. The survivors (alongside Quintus Dias) set off in pursuit of the Picts, in order to save their Commander Titus Flavius Virilus (Dominic West). Thrilling Clip From ‘Centurion’

“Splat Pack” filmmaker Neil Marshall’s entry in the ultra-violent historical-thriller genre, Centurion, is now available for viewing through several online retailers and will make its way onto DVD and Blu-Ray later this month.

A clip from Centurion is now online and offers a free look at the latest from the director of The Descent; Centurion is a film that looks markedly grittier in terms of style than films like 300 or the Starz TV show Spartacus: Blood & Sand.

Michael Fassbender (Magneto in X-Men: First Class) stars in Centurion as Quintas Dias, a Roman soldier and member of the legendary Ninth Legion. When the legion is defeated in battle and its general captured, Quintas must rally his fellow survivors in order to survive behind enemy lines.

Centurion Red Band Trailer

Magnolia Pictures has released a red band trailer for Neil Marshall’s upcoming historical thriller Centurion starring Michael Fassbender.

Centurion, which was originally titled Ninth Legion, is a British production that follows the legend of the the Ninth Legion – a group of 4,000 men who disappeared following a march from Hadrian’s Wall into Scotland almost 2,000 years ago. We previously covered the teaser poster as well as the international Centurion trailer – both of which pale in comparison to the new red band trailer.

Back in February we got a look at the international trailer for Centurion, a film about the Ninth Legion of the Roman Empire that mysteriously vanished on its journey to Caledonia. With an August release right around the corner, IGN has unveiled the new official poster.

Centurion is written and directed by Neil Marshall (The Descent, Doomsday) and stars Michael Fassbender (who’s been in the news the past few days due to his potential involvement in X-Men: First Class or the Spider-Man reboot), Dominic West (The Wire), and Olga Kurylenko (Quantum of Solace).

For whatever reason the first international trailer for Centurion, the new film from director Neil Marshall (The Descent, Doomsday) slipped passed us when it debuted a couple of weeks ago – but fear not, as we now have it for you to enjoy. Who Will Direct Conan?

With Brett Ratner out of the picture it looked like V For Vendetta director James McTeigue was a shoe-in to direct the long in development barbarian epic, Conan.

Well, it looks like news of McTeigue’s appointment was a tad premature as there are three other names in the mix to wield the megaphone whilst a half-naked man in a loin cloth wields a huge sword (there’s a crazy image).

Who are these men, you ask?

You’re going to have to keep reading to find out.

Devin at CHUD states that the other three directors are: Dog Soldiers and Doomsday helmer Neil Marshall; Brotherhood of the Wolf and Silent Hill director Christophe Gans and Pathfinder trail leader Marcus Nispel.

Apparently, producers Nu-Image/Millennium are hot and heavy for McTeigue whilst the distributor Lionsgate have their hearts set on Christophe Gans or Neil Marshall… Maybe Marcus Nispel ...
