The fictional bars of Miami will be missing one their most iconic inhabitants, as Sam Axe himself, Bruce Campbell, ventures to Comic-Con 2011 for his always legendary Burn Notice panel. Additionally, Campbell will also be celebrating the DVD release of his television movie Burn Notice: The Fall of Sam Axe.

Featured in the panel will be the beer swilling, cougar loving, Sam Axe (Bruce Campbell), as well as Burn Notice creator Matt Nix. With Burn Notice season 5 in full swing, expect to not only hear about what Sam Axe will be up to as the season progresses, but also what’s in store for Michael Westen and the search for the men that burned him.

Check your calendar, because Comic-Con 2011 will soon be upon us. With over 70 different TV panels confirmed for this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, finding out when and where you’re favorite television series will be appearing is definitely easier said than done.

‘Burn Notice’ Season 5 Premiere Review & Discussion

The Burn Notice season 5 premiere removes almost all familiarity that fans of the series expect, and unfortunately takes with it the core reason for why the series exists in the first place: to find out why Michael was burned.

With a set of unfamiliar characters (Grant Show) and awkward scenery, the season 5 premiere of Burn Notice opens in a manner much different to what was expected from those who fought their way through the season 4 finale.

As the introductory scene continues, not only are we presented with Michael Westen (Jeffrey Donovan) in a new environment, but we’re also shown why the series has worked so well with its familiar series format and Miami-locale.

Comic-Con 2011: First TV Panels & Non-Returning Shows Announced

Next month, the city of San Diego will be populated by the fanatical and fantastical for Comic-Con 2011. With a complete list expected in the coming week(s), today the first set of TV panels were announced.

Coinciding with the announcements of what TV shows we will see at the ‘Con, it was also revealed that 5 previously attending series will not be returning this year.

Comic-Con staples Chuck, The Big Bang Theory, The Vampire Diaries and The Walking Dead are all slated to return. Along with these familiar series, ABC will also be bringing fan-favorite Castle back to Comic-Con for its second year. ‘Burn Notice’ Season 5 Villain Is WWE’s The Big Show

The cast of Burn Notice is about to get remarkably larger. Super-sized wrestler The Big Show is slated to make a guest appearance on the highly rated action-drama as one of the new bad guys.

Standing at a staggering 7 ft. and weighing in at a colossal 485 lbs., The Big Show (Paul Donald Wight Jr.) is billed as ‘The Largest Athlete in the World’, and now he is the biggest foe Michael Westen and his band of do-gooders have ever faced.

Bruce Campbell is one of the main reasons people tune-in to Burn Notice every week, and with just cause. The actor’s portrayal of Sam Axe, the beer swilling, womanizing ex-Navy Seal with a heart of gold is always fun to watch and has been a pleasant addition to Campbell’s already iconic status as a B-movie action star.

That’s why Burn Notice fans (like me) were so excited when Matt Nix announced the development of Burn Notice: The Fall of Sam Axe, a special prequel TV movie focusing on Sam’s last mission as a military officer. USA Network #1 Cable Channel For Over 4 Years

In a cable environment at least as vicious as it’s ever been, USA (the channel, not the country) has emerged victorious for another quarter. The network has led the ratings race for almost five straight years.

USA’s original programming, particularly Burn Notice, White Collar and Covert Affairs, continues to soundly beat competition from the likes of TNT and FX. Reruns of popular broadcast shows like CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, House and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit help flesh out the numbers along with WWE RAW.

Sam Axe, Bruce Campbell’s womanizing, mojito-loving, ex-Navy Seal, is one of the best parts of the hit USA Network show Burn Notice, so it was a no-brainer for Burn Notice creator Matt Nix to give the character his own spin-off TV movie.

As we previously reported, the two-hour TV movie is a prequel set in 2005. The film will follow Lieutenant Commander Sam Axe as he advises a local military platoon fighting against a faction of Colombian rebels. As he gets deeper into the mission, however, he uncovers “deep layers of deception” that make him question his role, and ultimately lead to him leaving the Marines.

Even though the Burn Notice prequel, dubbed “The Sam Axe Movie,” is currently filming in Colombia and won’t premiere until later this spring, fans are able to keep a close eye on the day-to-day production, thanks to producer Aaron Ginsburg.

Ginsburg, who recently came off the canceled Matt Nix FOX series The Good Guys, has been providing an in-depth look at the filming of “The Sam Axe Movie” through his Twitter and Tumblr accounts. While production has faced geese attacks, stray donkeys and permit problems, the internet availability appears to be pretty solid.

Not since Frodo and Sam have two fictional friends been as close as Michael Westen and Sam Axe. Well, maybe I’m exaggerating a little bit, but you certainly can’t find a better pair of crime-fighting macho men on TV. The relationship between the Burn Notice characters (played by Jeffrey Donovan and Bruce Campbell) is one of the things that has kept the USA Network show successful throughout its first four seasons.

Of course, whether the relationship is as successful on screen as it is behind-the-scenes remains to be seen. Perhaps we’ll soon find out, as USA Network announced today that Jeffrey Donovan is directing the made-for-TV Burn Notice prequel film featuring Sam Axe.

Tony Almeida To Guest Star On Burn Notice

Now that I’ve got your attention, yes, Carlos Bernard, who played Tony Almeida on 24, will be appearing in the upcoming back half of season 3 of Burn Notice.

Details on whether he’ll be a client or a nemesis of Michael Westen, played by Jeffrey Donovan, has yet to be disclosed.

Carlos already filmed his role and now, all we have to do is wait until Burn Notice returns from its midseason break. Grr.

I know you can’t cross franchises, but wouldn’t that be sweet?
