Wacky Body-Snatching Antics In The ‘Burke & Hare’ UK Trailer

Director John Landis (An American Werewolf in London) has been keeping a low profile since his poorly-received sequel Blues Brothers 2000 hit theaters back in 1998. Now he is back with Burke and Hare, a dark comedy that the newly-released UK trailer not-so-subtly alludes to being “the ultimate crowd-pleaser.”

Burke and Hare features a well-to-do cast that includes Star Trek‘s Simon Pegg, Andy Serkis (Lord of the Rings) and Isla Fisher (Wedding Crashers), along with the likes of Tom Wilkinson, Tim Curry, and Christopher Lee. Piers Ashworth and Nick Moorcroft scripted the film, which hits UK theaters near the end of this month.

There are new posters for several upcoming movies – The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, The A-Team, Despicable Me, Gulliver’s Travels, Burke and Hare, and Kane and Lynch – now available for you Screen Rant readers to check out.

First, Summit Entertainment has unleashed a new banner for this summer’s Eclipse, the latest entry in the Twilight series.

The third chapter in The Twilight Saga looks to be the darkest film yet, with a plot that involves an evil vampire’s quest for vengeance and the outbreak of war between the werewolves and the vampires. As with the first two Twilight films, don’t expect non-fans of the franchise to race out to see this one when it hits theaters.

First Image From John Landis’ ‘Burke and Hare’

Empire has scored the first official image from John Landis’ recently completed Burke and Hare. The film, which takes place in Edinburgh, Scotland in the 1820s, is a dark comedy based on the true story of two Irishmen, William Burke (Simon Pegg) and William Hare (Andy Serkis), who take to grave robbing to earn some easy money.

Although this first image doesn’t do much in showing the plot of the movie, it is a nice introduction to the main characters. Two quick thoughts on the picture: The look on Pegg’s face is hilarious, and Andy Serkis will always remind me of Gollum.

Fisher and Wilkinson Join ‘Burke & Hare’ Cast

Yesterday we reported that Andy Serkis has replaced David Tennant in the upcoming remake of Burke And Hare. Now we have two more new cast members confirmed for the production.

Ilsa Fischer and Tom Wilkinson have both joined Burke And Hare; the film is based on the true story of two Nineteenth Century cads who murdered and robbed graves to provide Edinburgh medical fraternity with fresh cadavers for study.

Star Trek star Simon Pegg and Serkis are playing the titular characters of William Burke and William Hare, respectively.

According to Heat Vision Blog, Fisher will play Burke’s girlfriend, “an actress looking for a patron who might or might not be an accomplice to the murders.” Wilkinson will be playing Dr. Robert Knox, an anatomy lecturer who is in the market for fresh corpses.

Tennant Out of ‘Burke & Hare’, Serkis In

Simon Pegg, one of the stars of Burke & Hare, tweeted that his former co-star David Tennant (Doctor Who) has been replaced by Andy Serkis (The Lord of the Rings). Collider told us so. Then they told us that Pegg removed the tweet. Then I stopped trusting Twitter.

Pegg (Star Trek, Hot Fuzz) is committed to playing William Burke, half of the duo that lucratively supplied nineteenth-century British doctors with cadavers by killing innocent people. True story. Serkis (set to reprise his memorable role as Gollum in the upcoming The Hobbit is now set to play Burke’s partner, William Hare.

It’s Sunday so that can only mean one thing – The Weekend Movie News Wrap Up!

This week:

John Landis robs with graves with Burke and Hare; Spielberg and Will Smith eye Oldboy; Tom Hanks doesn’t take The Road To Purgatory; we can expect another 30 Days of Night and Carpenter and Cage think that it’s a Riot that they are no longer Scared Straight. Also there is the usual Box Office break down.

Box Office

Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa ruled the weekend with an estimated $60 million, beating its predecessor which managed to make $47 million back in 2005. Man, family movies are making so much money these days (like when have they never?).

The runner-up spot goes to Role Models starring Seann William Scott and Paul Rudd. The film was predicted to gross around $11 million over the weekend, but instead it should make somewhere between $17-19 million. Kevin Smith must be ...
