As we edge ever closer to the biggest movie award ceremony around, the Oscars, we have another set of nominations to mull over: The 37th Annual Saturn Awards.

While the Oscars, Golden Globes and the BAFTAs tend to recognize the more “serious” films (some would say in a way that is out of touch), award ceremonies like the Saturn Awards nominate films that average moviegoers would likely champion as their favorites of the year – not to mention the ceremony also recognizes the best TV shows and DVD release the year had to offer.

This week’s DVDs and Blu-rays are thin in number, but varied in taste. No major blockbusters hit home video this week, but there is one movie and one television show that should easily make their way into collections everywhere.

Look for one of Ryan Reynolds’ most daring performances in the claustrophobic thriller Buried. Meanwhile, Timothy Olyphant starred as one of television’s best new characters, Raylan Givens, in the first season of Justified.

Buried isn’t a big-budget comic book film or a 3D CGI extravaganza, but it’s still one of the most thrilling films of the year. Don’t let the simple “man in a box” concept fool you – director Rodrigo Cortés (The Contestant) utilizes a number of slick storytelling devices to portray a claustrophobic – and ultimately enjoyable – experience on film.

Despite Buried‘s upcoming wide release (on October 8th), and high-profile star (Ryan Reynolds), the movie is more indie-film than suspense thriller. The scope is extremely limited, with numerous close-ups on Reynolds’ blood-spattered face or awkward, angled shots focused on a dark corner of the pine box.

Ubiquitous star Ryan Reynolds will be confined to a single location in Buried, the low-budget suspense film that arrives in theaters three weeks from today.  A new international trailer for the pic has been released and it contains the first actual bit of footage that shows Reynolds in action.

Buried revolves around Paul Conroy (played by Reynolds), a U.S. contractor working overseas in Iraq.  Paul is attacked and kidnapped by a group of enemy soldiers – thereafter, he awakens to find himself buried alive in a coffin, armed with nothing but a cell phone and a lighter.

Summertime and all that easy living is now done, and unless you’re one of those people who lives where the sun is always shining then the onset of Fall means four things: colder weather, earlier sunsets, heavier clothing and movies galore.

Yes, the summer has all those big blockbusters we’ve been waiting all year to see, but Fall is the time when we actually want to be in the movie theater: when being outdoors is no longer an attractive alternative and the cinema offers many, many, award-worthy films. If you like Ryan Reynolds or Megan Fox than we’ve got two new posters for two upcoming movies movies just for you.

The first is for Ryan Reynolds’ Buried, an indie flick directed by Rodrigo Cortés about a U.S. contractor working in Iraq who ends up buried alive in a coffin with only his mobile phone and a lighter. The second is for the comic book adaptation Jonah Hex, starring Josh Brolin as the title character alongside Megan Fox.

Buried premiered at the Sundance Film Festival where it was met with great critical reception and later picked up by Lionsgate for distribution. First Showing nabbed an exclusive teaser poster for Buried which really emphasizes the predicament Ryan Reynolds finds himself in.
