Catherine Keener signs up to Duty as Tom Hanks first mate; Katherine Heigl is Face Blind; Jim Sheridan moves out of his Dream House and Into The West; has Hugh Grant dumped Renee Zellweger and dropped Bridget Jones’ Baby? Meanwhile, Josh Duhamel and Bruce Willis fight Fire With Fire.

1. Catherine Keener has signed on to play Tom Hanks’ wife in Paul Greengrass’ Captain Phillips. The film, based on Richard Phillips’ true-life book A Captain’s Duty, charts his story after he was taken hostage by Somali pirates in 2009.

Scott Rudin, Michael De Luca, Dana Brunetti and Kevin Spacey will produce the film, which was written by Billy Ray, the writer behind Shattered Glass – not Achy Breaky Heart.

Julia Roberts is in the Second Act of her career; Bridget Jones does The Full Monty; The Man From U.N.C.L.E. was The Bitter Pill that Steven Soderbergh needed to swallow; Adam Shankman controls The Nutcracker and Marion Cotillard is magical in Arthur & Lancelot.

1. Julia Roberts is set to produce and star in Second Act, a workplace comedy which “centers on a woman who has never worked and is forced to take a job.”

There’s no writer or director attached to the project, which will also be produced by Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas. Trudie Styler (Mrs. Sting) and Celine Rattray.

Roberts will next be seen as the Evil Queen in the forthcoming Snow White movie, Mirror Mirror.

Box Office

Neither Emma Stone nor Death itself could stop Rise of the Planet of the Apes from snagging the box office crown a second time this weekend. The popular prequel dropped about 49% from its opening for an estimated $27 million take and a $104.4 million total. Suffice it to say, 20th Century Fox will want Rupert Wyatt to start giving more thought to his sequel(s) plans, ASAP.

Harry Potter cast another spell over the box office this weekend. The boy wizard should conjure up an impressive $160 million since his debut last Wednesday. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince looks to be another impressive money-spinner for Warner Bros., who delayed the film from its original November 2008 release after The Dark Knight hit big last summer.
